NatWest Series [Sri Lanka in England] - 2nd match

England v Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka won by 46 runs

9.15am Good morning and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the second game in the best-of-five NatWest Series between England and Sri Lanka at The Oval. After an overcast start, the sun has come out in the last hour and its promises to be warm and bright in south London.

9.50am England have just announced that they will field an unchanged side from the one that lost at Lord's on Saturday.

10.15am Will Luke, our man at The Oval, says that there are a few more clouds around now and it’s turned a bit breezy. The two squads are practising on the outfield. He adds that the “pitch looks white , a bit like Lord’s”.

10.20am Sri Lanka have won the toss and will bat.

10.25am Sri Lanka were forced to make two changes to their winning line-up at Lord's with seamer Dilhara Fernando ruled out with an ankle injury while Chamara Kapugedera was omitted.. For the full report on the day's play, check out Andrew McGlashan's bulletins which he updates at regular intervals.

A pretty dreadful bowling performance from England there. Steve Harmison and Jamie Dalrymple were honourable exceptions, and Kevin Pietersen had his moments. But the rest were ordinary to say the least, and the tally of 36 extras won't go down well with their coach. But Sanath Jayasuriya, back on the ground where he made his matchwinning 213 in the 1998 Test, showed he has still got what it takes at the venerable age of 37. But the pitch is slow and the outfield quick. England might yet have a sniff of a chance if Trescothick and KP can get into their stride. Back in 40 minutes for the resumption. In the meantime, check out Andrew McGlashan's no-holds-barred bulletin.
