Doug Greasley was a lower middle-order batsman and slow left-armer who played for Northamptonshire for six seasons from 1950 without ever managing to secure a regular place in the XI. One of many players born in Yorkshire who went on to forge a career elsewhere, he made his debut as a spinner, taking 4 for 36 against Yorkshire, but after a hundred against Leicestershire in May 1951 - his only first-class century - his bowling was sparingly used and he became a specialist batsman, albeit one who batted low down the order. His best season was in 1952 when he scored 613 runs at 26.65. After being released he played in Scotland as a professional for more than a decade.
