Graham Cowan stood in 46 first-class matches and five one-day internationals as an umpire. In addition he played various administrative roles in New Zealand cricket, including those of selector and treasurer for the West Coast Cricket Association, administrator with Auckland Cricket, chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association, and chairman of Northland Cricket.
