Norm McNamara commenced umpiring at the age of fifteen and became a full time umpire in 1996, firstly in Redlands and then in Brisbane. He was soon umpiring representative Country matches and on moving the Brisbane was quickly promoted to first grade matches and subsequently to representative matches played by Colts and the Queensland Academy of Sport. Before taking up umpiring he played cricket as a right hand batsman and wicket keeper with Alexandra Hills in Redlands, and with Easts-Redlands in the lower grades. Schools: Richmond North (NSW) to grade 6; Coolnwynpin State; Capalaba High. His occupation is school teacher. (Warwick Torrens, 2002)
