Profile

Sir Derrick Bailey, the son of Sir Abe Bailey, the man who had the original idea for the ICC, played 60 first-class matches for Gloucestershire between 1949 and 1952 and scored 2029 runs with two centuries at an average of 24.44. He led them in 1951 and 1952. He had also played Minor Counties cricket for Oxfordshire before the war. Bailey founded Aurigny Air Services in 1968 when British United Airways pulled out of the Alderney-Guernsey route, threatening the islands' livelihood. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his services as a pilot during the Second World War.
