Rupert Webb's career was delayed by WW2 but he made his debut for Sussex in 1948 and was a regular in the side until he retired at the end of 1960. One of the old-school of specialist wicketkeepers, he failed to make a fifty in more than 250 matches for the county. After retiring he became and actor and model, and had a bit part in the film Four Weddings And A Funeral. In 2004 he was involved in a public spat with Robin Marlar over Marlar's claim that a dropped catch by Webb cost the county the Championship in 1953.
