Haydn Sully was born in Somerset and made his debut for the county in 1959 but left after five seasons as he struggled to break into the first team. He moved to Northamptonshire where he became a regular in 1965, and in 1966 he took 101 wickets at 21.23, and the following summer chipped in with another 80 and 30.05. But his form slowly fell away, and he retired at the end of 1969 after losing his place in the side. He played a few times for Devon in 1970 and 1971.
