Wisden obituary
Jack Eaton, who died on New Year's Eve, aged 68, made his debut for Sussex in 1926 and until the outbreak of World War II and in 1946 he had 44 innings in first-class cricket. He scored 465 runs, with a highest score of 44, at an average of 1061. He was a useful wicketkeeper and, but for the excellent performance of W. (Tick) Comford, he would have played in many more first-class matches. Only appearing for the 1st XI when Cornford was unable to play, or in a first-class friendly match, Eaton was responsible for the dismissal of 76 wickets, 49 caught and 27 stumped. In the mid-1930s he was awarded his county cap and towards the
end of his career with Sussex he served for a year as county coach. He was elected an honorary life member of Sussex in 1954.
