Peter Macduff Christian Hare, who died in hospital at Shaftesbury, Dorset on June 14 aged 81, was a right-hand batsman and outstanding wicketkeeper who spent three years in the XI at Canford, being skipper in the last, 1939. He also turned out for Dorset, before going to Worcester College at Oxford, where he played in the Freshman's trial in 1940. Unfortunately war prevented him from winning a blue and his only experience of first-class cricket came after his return to Oxford, when he played one match for the university against Leicestershire at The Parks in 1947. He scored 39 in his only innings and effected two dismissals but was unable to displace W.W. Davidson. Hare was a master at Rugby school for 30 years before finishing his career at Hanford School, Child Okeford.
