Barry Montgomery Gibbs was born on 11 March 1933 at Caulfield, Victoria. He moved from Victoria to Queensland in the mid 1950's and in 1960, on the retirement of T.E.Williams, was appointed to the position of secretary of the Queensland Cricket Association. While in Brisbane he played grade cricket for Valley and for Toombul, including some matches in A Grade. He retained the position of secretary of the Queensland Cricket Association until his resignation which took effect on 29th April 1966 after which he took a position in Adelaide. He was manager of the Queensland team for the tour to the southern states in 1964-65 season. On moving to Adelaide he took a position with the South Australian Cricket Association. In the season of 1991-92 he officiated as match referee in three of the games played in Adelaide as a part of the World Cup. Barry Gibbs died at the Daw House Hospice in Adelaide on 22 April 2006
