A left-hand middle-order batsman who also bowls some medium pace, Brad Patton made a relatively late entry into first-class cricket: his first game came at the age of 27, though he had played at the under-19 level for New Zealand. He started his first-class career with a duck, but has since developed into a useful batsman, scoring six fifties in ten matches in the 2009-10 Plunkett Shield - New Zealand's first-class championship - though the highest of those was only 65. The longer version is clearly his preferred format, but he was chosen in Central District's squad for the 2010 Champions League despite not having played a single Twenty20 game for the state.
