An extraordinary display of power batting from Bermudan middle-order batsman Lionel Cann saw Bermuda clinch a 109 run victory over Argentina at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in Toronto, Canada.
Having seen off defending champions Canada on day one, Bermuda surged to an imposing 371 for 3 in their 50 overs, with man of the match Cann blasting an undefeated 139 off only 68 balls, an innings which included 8 fours and an astonishing 13 sixes.
Cann's brilliant performance perhaps overshadowed an excellent century from opener Kwame Tucker, who batting throughout the Bermudan innings to end 100 not, made off 135 balls, including 10 fours and a six.
Tucker and Cann added an undefeated 201 runs for the 4th wicket. Mention should also be made of a fine second wicket partnership of 128 between the two Tuckers - Janeiro and Kwame. Janeiro Tucker contributed an outstanding 79, in 71 balls, including 12 fours and 2 sixes. Pick of the Argentine bowlers was left-arm spinner Hernan Pereyra, with 1 for 58 off his 10 overs.
Faced with a mountain to climb, Argentina nonetheless started in positive fashion and thanks largely to a blistering 70 off 61 balls from opening bat Lucas Paterlini, with 10 fours and 2 sixes, raced to 103 before losing their first wicket, that of Carlos Gibson for 26, in the 18th over.
However, despite solid contributions from Matias Paterlini, 27, Gary Savage, 38, and Donny Forrester, 35, Bermuda maintained a firm grip of the game, and restricted Argentina to 262 for 5 in their 50 overs.
Best of the Bermudan bowlers was Irving Romaine, with 1 for 29 in 9 overs, while Janeiro Tucker completed a good all-round performance with 2 for 46 off his 8 overs.
Tomorrow Bermuda will be looking to make it three out of three against a Cayman Islands, buoyant after their stunning win over Canada, while Argentina will face the USA, looking to further improve against a team who showed fine form in their opening day victory over the Cayman Islands.
