The pace bowler Angelique Taai played her first cricket for Breidbach School's girls team, where her performances brought her to the attention of Border selectors, who invited her to senior squad practices at 12 years old. She played her first match for Border in 2001 when she was 13 and has continued to represent them.
Taai, who is also a hard-hitting middle order batsman, progressed to South Africa Under 19s and has attended all national camps for the senior side since 2003. Despite not having made her full international debut, strong allround performances at the camps, and also in the National League prompted the selectors to call her into the World Cup squad which is to be played in South Africa in March and April 2005.
