Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has been handed a serious official reprimand after being found guilty of a breach of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Code of Conduct.
Gilchrist was charged with a Level 1 offence, point 1.3 which sites as punishable: "Showing dissent at an umpire's decision by action or verbal abuse."
The charge related to the aftermath of an appeal for caught behind against England batsman Stephen Harmison off the bowling of Brett Lee on the fourth day of the fifth Orange Test match against England at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday (5 January 2003).
The hearing took place after play on Sunday evening and was attended by Gilchrist, ICC match referee Wasim Raja, umpires Dave Orchard, Russell Tiffin, Simon Taufel and Darrell Hair, Australia team manager Stephen Bernard and Australian Cricket Board Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland.
Wasim Raja said: "At the hearing Adam Gilchrist admitted swearing and expressed regret at doing so.
"I decided the punishment should be a serious official reprimand and a warning as to his future conduct."
A Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct carries with it a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and/or a maximum penalty of a fine of 50 percent of a player or official's match fee.
