ICC Champions Trophy - 1st match, Group B

India v South Africa

India won by 26 runs

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma walk out to open. Here comes Morne Morkel with the first new ball

Both sides going into the first match of the tournament without one specialist opener each

Firdose Moonda, our South Africa correspondent: "To be honest, when I walked into the ground I was reminded of how it felt in Nagpur when India played SA in the World Cup. There's almost zilch SA support."

10 am AB de Villiers wins the toss and South Africa will bowl

AB de Villiers: "It is a bit overcast. There might be movement around. We have gone with four seamers. The other surprise is we are starting with Colin Ingram, he is opening the batting. We don't want to risk Dale Steyn." Even without Steyn, this is quite a pace attack - Morkel, Tsotsobe, McLaren, Kleinveldt

MS Dhoni: "We were looking to bowl as well. I don't think the wicket will change much. Vijay misses out. We can manage this much cold. Birmingham was really cold." Rohit Sharma will open, with Dinesh Karthik in the middle order. Two spinners, and no Irfan

Hard pitch, grass cover, expect bounce and some seam movement, says Simon Doull on air

Yokesh kumar: "Rohit Sharma opening the batting in Swinging condition with 2 new balls.. Mark this comment.. He will get OUT to Wicket keeper or First slip.."

Simon: "I think Steyn will be the biggest blow for SA. With two new balls and overcast conditions he's the one guy capable of really ramping it up to Test Match level intensity. Good luck to both sides today, hope we have a top game."

aniket: "Biggest miss in my opinion is Yuvi. He is better bowler than Jadeja in ODIs & much better batsman for sure. His presence in the team makes perfect balance for the team."

James: "As Sid points out the preview, a lot of big names missing for both teams. For my money, the biggest miss is Kallis, for the balance he brings to the SA team."

9.50 am Dale Steyn is not among those warming up. He's wearing a baseball glove and is chatting to Paddy Upton

9.40 am It is a cold morning in Cardiff to kick off the final Champions Trophy. India and South Africa will meet in the first game of the tournament, and their players are warming up in overalls. South Africa are coming from their winter, but India was still sweltering in summer heat when MS Dhoni and his men left Mumbai. The monsoon is slowly spreading upwards from the south, but Dhoni and Co have already got a respite of a different kind. They are away, at least physically, from what is going on back home with daily revelations, allegations, confessions, political maneuvers, and assorted dirt

It is time for some cricket though. Siddarth Ravindran sizes up this match in his preview. No Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj. An India side in a world event without any of those four. Times are surely changing.

McLaren to Ashwin, OUT, Ashwin sacrifices, gets an inside edge onto pad and to the bowler, Jadeja has run half way up the pitch by then, Ashwin realises there is going to be a run out, and crosses over to make sure he;s the one walking back

R Ashwin run out 10 (15m 10b 1x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

49.5

McLaren to Jadeja, FOUR, Jadeja makes sure Ashwin's sacrifice is not in vain, picks this length ball on off and middle and carts it over extra cover

49.6

McLaren to Jadeja, FOUR, Jadeja finishes on a high, short ball into the body, but he arches back and dabs it over the keeper, it almost goes over the boundary, one bounce in the end

India looked to be stalling after the incredible start from Rohit and Dhawan, but Jadeja's weighed in with the bat to lift them to 330-odd. They will feel they could have touched 350 with that kind of opening stand, but 330 will take some getting. This is not a bad pitch for the bowlers, there was good bounce through the innings, but South Africa overdid the short stuff

End of over 50 (10 runs) India 331/7
RA Jadeja    47* (29b 7x4 1x6)      R McLaren    10-0-70-3
B Kumar    0* (0b)      LL Tsotsobe    10-0-83-2
