the comments here show how the proliferation of one day cricket has changed the way people perceive as being successful in cricket. matching blow for blow the Windies team of the 80s is a far greater accomplishment than winning any one day tournament. ask 100 players would they rather play 50 tests for their country or 50 ODIs, at least 49 of them will say tests. if the question asked was 'what had the greatest impact on Pakistan cricket?' then I would have to say the 92 world cup.

Afridi Last 2 sixes to Ashwin with one wicket remaining and Aizaz Cheema last over in Asia cup saving 8 runs in that over has been thrilling moments but CT2017 is more interesting and breadth taking scene in my whole 24 years age.

For me it is definitely CT 2017. WC 1992 I was a bustling 14 years old at the time and I remember every play vividly as if it was yesterday! It inspired a generation and lead to the highs of 1990's. It definitely broke the glass ceilings. But that time we expected and anticipated it! We had Imran, Miandad, Akram, Mushy, Waqar (before getting injured and sent back), and so on, under arguably the finest captain in the history of Pakistan; and we had a HOME! But this side, we had NO expectations! Pundits wrote them off! Fans wrote them off! They were laughed at, and cursed even by Jarrod Kimber! This is a HOMELESS team! Under a newly minted captain! A team of vagabonds that no one wants to play, that no one gave a chance! Heck yeah this is way more significant than 1992!

@KIWIROCKER agreed with yo Nehru Cup should be there in top 10 moments of Pak Cricket.

  • Bobby on June 19, 2017, 8:31 GMT

Why do not you have Nehru Cup 1989 win up there? Nehru Cup was practically a world cup played in India where all test playing teams participated. Pakistan did beat mighty West Indies in final. Pakistan also managed to beat India in a group match. This fallacy of Pakistan did not beat India in ICC tournaments is actually wrong as Nehru Cup was as big as a world cup. That win should be right up there...

Pakistan is mercurial cricket nation. There are times when they are down and out but they always come back strongly. Enough of back up raw talent in the country. Many of the flaws in domestic cricket but still the most loved team of the cricket playing countries. They add an extra charm in all forms of cricket. I think their inclusion as test playing team in itself is the greatest moment in the history of world cricket and the Miandad/Imran era is the best for them. In tests they were excellent right through their careers and in ODIs their win against India in 1986 made them invincible.

That last ball six of Javed Miandad really changed the mindset. It was no doubt the greatest turning point.
