Scorecard

Afghanistan won their second straight one-day match in the tournament, edging Canada by 17 runs in a rain-curtailed game in Toronto.

After rain reduced the game to a 20-over affair, there was a frenetic start with plenty of boundaries and wickets. Afghanistan opener Karim Sadiq slammed four boundaries and a six in a 23-ball 34, and No. 4 Nawroz Mangal hit three fours in a six-ball 14 but they also lost four wickets to reach 72 for 4 in eight overs. Mohammad Nabi kept the run-rate spiraling, lashing four sixes in a 47 that guided Afghanistan to 133 for 5, before another burst of wickets ended their innings at 150 in the 19th over.

Canada made a decent start to their chase, with opener Hiral Patel making a combative 45. He had support from No. 4 Rizwan Cheema, who galloped to 36 off 24. At 112 for 4 in the 16th over, with Cheema in full flow, Canada were still in the game but they had even more spectacular a collapse than Afghanistan, losing their final six wickets for 19 runs to be bowled out for 133.

afghanistan has been playing like champions since the time they have burst on the big scene and they will have a great future is they are properly guided by the icc.. to take their game to the next level i would suggest they ask pakistan for help and play in their domestic league, like ireland once did and scots and holland do in the english league, and also try to arrange tours by the A teams of the member nations on a regular basis and ofcourse develop a strong domestic league.. all the best and hope to see them regulary qualify to the odi and t20 world cups both senior and u19 and wish that the ICC promotes both IRELAND AND AFGHANISTAN to the big league as soon as possible because i agree and i am sure other cricket lovers do as well that we will not be disappointed by their performance...

An ODI series win for the first time for Afghanistan! Future looks bright and encouraging. The ultimate goal now for the team is to prepare themselves in a better way for the ICC World Cup 2015 qualifiers.

When was the last time any of these associate teams actually beat Afghanistan in ANY format? This is one very driven side, hope they get into the 2015 World Cup, I'd love to watch them over here in NZ.
