Day Three

10.20am - Good morning everyone and welcome to Mannofield, Aberdeen with me Callum Stewart, for our ball-by-ball coverage of this ICC Intercontinental Cup game between Scotland and the Netherlands. The last two days have been washed out due to rain, but I have some good news - it's not raining! A dry spell overnight has given the pitch a chance to dry out and the covers are being taken off as we speak.

This four day game will now be condensed in to just two days, so it will be interesting to see what tactics both teams will adopt today. They're all out warming out and we will have news of the teams and the toss to follow.

The Netherlands have won the toss and will bowl.

Dutch captain Peter Borren has called the toss correctly and has decided to put Scotland in to bat. A couple of the Scots have returned to the changing rooms to pad up so we're hopeful of getting action under way very soon.

10.40am.

Scotland team - GD Drummond*, R Flannigan, KJ Coetzer, AC Evans, DF Watts, G Goudie, RM Haq, NFI McCallum, CS MacLeod, PL Mommsen, SJS Smith†.

Netherlands team - PW Borren*, W Barresi†, Mudassar Bukhari, TLW Cooper, TN de Grooth, ES Szwarczynski, MAA Jamil, N Kruger, BA Westdijk, PM Seelaar, MR Swart.

10.45am - This match is the first is the 2011-2013 I'Cup cycle. There is a maximum 20 points up for grabs in any one match. The scoring system is as follows;

Points for a Win, Tie or First Innings Lead

14 points for an outright win
7 points each for an outright tie
6 points for a lead on the first innings (retained irrespective of the outright result)
3 points each for a first innings tie.

Points for Abandoned, Interrupted or Drawn Matches

In a match with more than 10 hours lost due to interruptions each side will be awarded 7 points for a draw, plus any points scored in the first innings.

The Dutch team look ready to go in their bright orange caps, certainly brighter than any Scottish sun we've had over the past few days. Do feel free to get involved - click on the shiny send commentary feedback button below to send me a message.

The players are all ready, but it's just started spitting with rain out there. Not good news.

Day Two

1.00pm Bad news as the umpire have called time on play for today. The relentless rain this morning have put away hopes of any play today. The rain has stopped however and the groundsmen will be working hard this afternoon to try and get the pitch playable for tomorrow. Do join us then, but from Callum Stewart here in Aberdeen it's goodbye for now.

12.25pm The Dutch team have just arrived, they don't have much interest in the Scottish weather. The umpires are yet to make an appearance.

11.45am - Still raining heavily out there. It'll be lunch time before we get any news but any play today looks doubtful. The overnight rain has done the Mannofield ground no favours and water is lying on all corners of the outfield now.

11.00am - No sign of players or umpires, I think they're hiding away in the warmth of the changing rooms. There's some big puddles out there on the other side of the pitch and the rain is still lashing down.

10.15am - Good morning all from a very wet Aberdeen. We were hoping to bring you coverage from Scotland playing the Netherlands in the Intercontinental Cup, but it's been raining overnight and this morning and the outfield is soaking. It's still raining now and the prospects of play any time soon look grim. We were hoping to catch up from yesterday's washout, but it's going to be another long waiting game today.

Day One

9.45am - Good morning and welcome to our coverage of this ICC Intercontinental Cup match between Scotland and the Netherlands. I'm Callum Stewart and we will be bringing you ball-by-ball coverage from this four day match here in Mannofield.

It's overcast here in Aberdeen and the covers are still on. There was a little overnight rain and the outfield is still damp. The locals have given a variety of forecasts, some say it will clear up and others are less optimistic. Both the teams have arrived and the Dutch players are not in a rush to warm up. They're all huddled in the clubhouse drinking mugs of tea and coffee whilst watching tv. The match is supposed to start at 11.00am, but I doubt it will start on time. More official news to follow shortly.

Scotland played runners up to Afghanistan at the end of last years competition, while the Netherlands have suffered in the four day format having had more success in the ODI arena. This will be the first match of the 2011-2013 campaign and both teams will be looking to get off to a good start.

10.10am - Rarely do you get any four consecutive days in Scotland without rain. The players are already planning alternative activities for the day - playing cards, reading books and watching cricket videos on YouTube - which can't be a good sign for any live cricket any time soon. It's just started spitting too. The covers are still on and the umpires are nowhere to be seen.

10.50am - Still no movement from either camps, it's slow going here in Aberdeen. The rain is light showers at best but it's already very wet in the outfield and the covers are firmly pinned down. The groundsmen are having a chat with a few of the Dutch players and the Scots are all playing snooker.

Still no sign from any of the umpires but the prospects of play today are already looking slim. A lonely journalist is taking snaps of all the puddles out there. We will let you know as soon as we hear any news.

11.30am - The rain is still persisting out there and everyone seems pretty relaxed. This is looking like it could well turn in to a three day game.

1.00pm - The lunch break is about to be taken. I heard a few whisperings that it's only a matter of time before the umpire call play off for the day, they just have to wait until a certain threshold for ICC regulations.

2.15pm - It's still raining, some people have left but play hasn't been officially called off yet. They can play until 7pm someone said, but it's very dark and gloomy out there and everyone just wants to go home and come back again to start all over tomorrow. The Umpires are sitting watching the tennis in the pavilion, checking the outfield every hour, but the light drizzle isn't making things any better.

3.00pm - No change in the weather, more rain. There will be no play today, just waiting on the official nod from the umpires. Attention turns to damage limitation and what the weather will bring overnight so we can get this game started on time tomorrow. There's a lot of water out there on top of the covers.

3.55pm - Still raining, a little meeting is going on between captains and umpires. This could be the message to go home.

And it is! The umpires have waited out the rain long enough and the outfield is too wet for any more play today. We will be back here tomorrow where they will be hoping to get started at 11.00am, but any overnight rain will set that time back further. Both the teams will have tea before heading back to their respective hotels, and will be hoping to play some cricket tomorrow. Thanks for joining us today, and see you tomorrow.

One Dutch fan asks : Since we've had more than 10 hours lost in the match, do I understand correctly only the first innings points are at stake now?

Both teams can claim full points if they can bowl the other team out twice and take all 20 wickets. The max points are still available but it's much harder given only two days instead of four.

Ian asks :

(1) Re the scoring: how many hours have we already lost to rain? Have we lost enough to make a draw worth 7 points each? We have lost two full days which is well more than the allocated ten hours. It's 7 points each for a draw.

(2) How many points for a draw if 10 hours aren't lost? Three, not applicable to this match now.

(3) Do you think there's any chance of both captains declaring/forfeiting their first innings to try and get a result? First innings points are important, and neither team will want to give their opponent an easy window to climb through. Both will probably look to not lose the match before trying to win it.
