ICC Women's World Cup - Final

Australia Women v West Indies Women

Australia Women won by 114 runs

They've just finished singing 'Advance Australia Fair' and 'Rally Round The West Indies'. Lot's of smiles among the players ... The West Indies are huddling and high-fiving as they take the field for the first time in a World Cup final.

Rachael Haynes and Meg Lanning are the openers for Australia. Lanning will face ... Shanel Daley to open the bowling with left-arm spin. Two slips in place.

Gareth: "There really hasn't been much said about the final in the mass Aussie media. It really is a shame. Most of the cricketing media is going mad with anticipation, but I doubt most Aussies even know that we're in the final, or that the tournament is going on. Shocking."

Toss, 2.10 pm Jodie Fields and Merissa Aguilleira are at the centre of the Brabourne Stadium at the Cricket Club of India for the toss. It's a bright, sunny day in Mumbai, with temperatures expected to rise to about 31-31C before dipping to the early 20s after sunset.

Australia have won the toss and they will bat. Ellyse Perry and Sarah Coyte return for them, replacing Renee Chappell and Holly Ferling.

This is the Australian XI: Haynes, Lanning, Cameron, Blackwell, Sthalekar, Feilds, Coyte, Osborne, Perry, Hunter, and Schutt.

Aguilleira says there are some nerves but that's a good thing, it's about how we control it, she says. West Indies have also made one change, leaving out Juliana Nero and replacing her with Kycia Knight. I'm hoping Kycia and Kyshona don't bat together, telling them apart is quite hard!

The pitch for the final hasn't been used in a while, and Sanjay Manjrekar says it's smack in the centre of the ground. He expects it to be quite good for batting. Mark Butcher reckons the team batting first will want 260.

Hitesh: "Courageous decision by Australia to drop Ferling who has been the find for them in this world cup..Loved to have both perry and ferling in the team though.."

1.30 pm Good afternoon, and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's ball-by-ball coverage of the Women's World Cup final. Australia are five-time champions, West Indies have never been in a World cup final before today. Does that make them underdogs, though?

West Indies beat Australia in their last Super Six game to reach the final so their confidence will be up. Australia, on the other hand, didn't have a couple of key players in that match, and definitely have big-match temperament. Will West Indies be able to hold their nerve on the biggest stage of their lives? It'll all unfold soon enough ...

Shahid: "All excited. Going to the stadium to watch the Finals!! C'mon West Indies!!"

This is part of what Australia's captain, Jodie Fields, had to say on the eve of the final: "I feel a sense of history. The Australian team has won the World Cup five times and I was also part of the side in 2009 back in Sydney when we didn't have such a good tournament. So to be involved in a World Cup final is an amazing opportunity for me personally and also for the team. We're keen to get out there and have a good shot at the sixth."

Her West Indian counterpart, Merissa Aguilleira, was spiritual: "Every morning when I finish my prayers and look at the phone with all the messages and support … at the moment the Caribbean is in a total chaos concerning cricket. It would mean so much for them if we can bring home the trophy. It will mean everything to us."

Abhishek Purohit, who's been covering this tournament for us, spoke to Deandra Dottin, one of West Indies' kingmakers. West Indies' fortunes could well depend on whether she does or does not fire with the bat today. One of his influences is the great Viv Richards. "I would sit and study the way he moved and the way he hit the ball," she said once. "For me it was more than just the runs he scored. What I liked to see was the way he walked out on the pitch, how he looked out there in the middle, and the way he represented West Indies. He always looked in control of things. I have never seen anyone do it quite like him."

5.40 pm Australia got off to a great start and then stuttered, they then recovered through Jess Cameron before stuttering again. The eighth-wicket partnership between Fields and Perry, however, has led them to a score they will be pleased with. West Indies will be disappointed with their fielding performance. Their bowlers weren't much at fault, but the fielding was awful. So many fumbles and several dropped catches. They have one heck of a chase ahead of them ... I'll be back in 30 minutes.
