TEAMS

Stanley Bergin scored more runs for Ireland than any other player. Born in Dublin on November 18. 1926, he was educated in that city at the Westland Row Christian Brothers' School. A left-hander, he made 53 appearances for his country between 1949 and 1965 scoring 2,524 runs, average 27.73. If he had chosen to do so, there is little doubt that he could have held his own in County cricket. A journalist by profession, he wrote the section on Irish cricket for The World of Cricket. His brother Bernard also played cricket for Ireland in 1937.
