Big picture

If one of Twenty20's main purposes is to globalise the game, Afghanistan are its success story. Their country has been in the news for unfortunate reasons, but its teams' qualification for back-to-back World Twenty20s and the Under-19 World Cup is a welcome story. By all accounts, the following back home matches the frenzy cricket brings to the rest of cricketing Asia.

For the second time in their two appearances in the T20 global event, Afghanistan have drawn neighbours India at the start of the tournament. They will dearly love to be the banana skin, and they know this format was founded on banana skins. They will want to put pressure on India's bowling, which can be brittle under fire.

For India this match is expected to provide some much-needed relief after their bowlers have faltered in two of their last three Twenty20s. They will do well, though, to not take their opponents lightly because this is an event where you need just three bad hours to book a return ticket.

Form guide (last 5 completed matches, most recent first)

Watch out for

Mohammad Shahzad is a wicketkeeper, is known as MS in the Afghanistan dressing room, and like the other MS he aims to unleash the helicopter shot come this World Twenty20. "I am Dhoni's biggest fan, and I love the way he bats," Shahzad said. "I try and copy the shots that he plays and have practiced the helicopter shot at the nets. I was missing everything, it's a very difficult shot to play. But I kept persisting till the time I mastered the shot. Inshallah, you will see me hitting the helicopter shot in the match against India. And hopefully Dhoni will like it too."

Yuvraj Singh was a calculated risk when picked for World Twenty20, the underlying idea being his fitness would be tested before the tournament began. However, rain and his late entry in the batting order has meant he has faced only 43 balls going into the first match. His fitness and strength hasn't really been tested, and India are entering a bit of an unknown with him. They will hope that they have got back the Yuvraj of the old.

Team news

During the warm-up games, India tried playing five specialist bowlers and used Irfan Pathan and R Ashwin at Nos 7 and 8, but don't expect MS Dhoni to take that adventurous route. He never does, no matter how weak the bowling might be. Dhoni said India will go in with four bowlers for the opening game.

India (possible): 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Rohit Sharma, 7 MS Dhoni (capt. &wk), 8 R Ashwin, 9 Irfan Pathan, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 L Balaji/Ashok Dinda.

Seamer and Afghanistan's strike bowler Hamid Hassan has been ruled out of their opening game due to injury. He missed their warm-up games as well.

Afghanistan (possible): 1 Mohammad Shahzad (wk), 2 Javed Ahmadi, 3 Karim Sadiq, 4 Nawroz Mangal (capt.), 5 Asghar Stanikzai, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Samiullah Shenwari, 8 Dawlat Zadran, 9 Shapoor Zadran, 10 Gulbodin Naib, 11 Izatullah Dawlatzai

Pitch and conditions

The warm-up game between Indian and Pakistan, although played on a corner strip of R Premadasa square, was low, slow and flat, a U-turn on all the talk of changing nature of pitches in Sri Lanka. The groundstaff will hope for a little more even surface. They will also want something miraculous to happen to the patchy outfield that resulted in many a bad bounce and fumble in the warm-up game.

Stats and trivia

  • Mohammad Shahzad, with 312 runs in 11 innings, is the highest run-getter for Afghanistan in Twenty20 internationals.

  • Gautam Gambhir, with 444 runs, is the fourth-highest run-getter in all World Twenty20s. In doing so, he has scored four fifty-plus scores, behind only Mahela Jayawardene who has done so on five occasions.

    Quotes

"It looks very unlikely, when you see the top seven batsmen we have to see which batsmen suits which position the best. Virat can bat at No 3 and then Yuvraj, Raina and Rohit. These are the people who need to get in. Maybe I will take over the slog opportunity and look to play big shots from the first ball. That can be the most likely scenario but it may change later."
MS Dhoni rules out a promotion for himself in the batting order

You're only as good as your last series INDIA, and I'm pretty sure NEW ZEALAND beat you...so I'd say you will be lucky to get out of this group. I'm putting my money on the Aussies or the Sri Lankan's to take the title...but would love to see NZ cause a few upsets like the always do!

Wish Afgan the best. Do they have a chance against India. I don,t think so. The first round should have had more games or teams play each other twice to improve the game of cricket.

@maini_23081982..dude u have a fantastic logical point and i had discussed exactly the same format with one of my friends yesterday..i need not explain the reason of this format as u have explained it beautifully...minnows play each other all yr round and suddenly and foolishly they are placed against strong teams in these mega tournaments..how can one expect them to play well, other than a few upsets...ICC is going nowhere..i just wonder does ICC have a think tank or anything like this?

Good luck to Afganistan. India is there for the taking right now - India are not the greats they think they are. If Afganistan can keep Yuvraj shackled they have a good chance. Indian bowling looks very week.

I just don't understand why all Sri Lankans just hate India!!! Is it all just bcz we beat you in most of the games??? Come on guys... We are a good neighbors and should have respect and dignity towards each other... It's just a sport and win or lose, we should take it with a sportsmanship. We should respect all. I have been to Sri Lanka and love Sri Lankans and the country. We are sports lovers... Please don't be haters just bcz the dirty politics and the bad media publicity. All the best for India and goodluck for Afganistan. Cheers!!!

Posted by satish619chandar on (September 19, 2012, 11:49 GMT)

Never worried about India losing to Afghan. What is wrong if Afghan's play out of their skin and beat India? Nothing wrong. If it is a good cricket, everyone is going to love it. Some will come here and vent out their frustration on Indian team in the most demeaning way but still, the game will need the surprises. Without the surprises, India wouldn't have won the 19983 WC or SL wouldn't have won the 1996 or even Australia the 1999 WC. We need the upsets in cricket. Good luck Afghan even though i personally want India to win.

I cant understand @ Indian Team selection. There are plenty of players with talent. But like a traditional, same players in all formats whether performing or not. Why cant select the suitable players for each format? Teams like England, West Indies, Australia etc. Why Indian selectors dosnt try new players?

Posted by Fast_Track_Bully on (September 19, 2012, 10:54 GMT)

@Theekshana Perera . Then you must be ashamed that the same minow beat you always! so who are you? :P look at your team first! lol

I dntknow y peoples are so optimistic abt afg.... Surely they are good team n cn defeat teams lyk bang. Zim etc, bt nt india, dats fr sure..

Posted by maini_23081982 on (September 19, 2012, 9:42 GMT)

The format of the tournament could have been - 2 groups of 6 teams each. 6 teams play round robin among themselves , then semis and a final. This is (15+15 group matches, 2 SF, 1 F) 33 matches compared to the current (12 group games, 12 Super8, 2SF, 1F) 27 matches, so an increase of 6 games and 3 days. It's a 22% increase in the number of matches (and probably in the tournament budget) but this would have made the tournament, in my opinion, more interesting; giving opportunity to associate nations' teams to play 5 matches each instead of just 2 in the group stage giving them more exposure. Also it would have meant that an early slip up can be mended by a team. In an already overly unpredictable game format, at least the tournament format should be made such that the teams do not have to dread a single game so much like the one yesterday, the 2 games today where associate teams can play with a nothing-to-loose attitude and the opponents can be under an unseen stress.

Clash of the minnows... !!!

Posted by Sandeep.M.J.D on (September 19, 2012, 9:33 GMT)

@Shayad, now I will put the thing in a correct way.

England = Good chance to be in finals South Africa = Probably the best team, but history is against them Sri Lanka = may win but 50 50 West Indies = No chance New Zealand = may be having all time worst squad Pakistan = No predictions, they can win any, lose any. But the tradition in the WCs will continue against India (if they meet) since they won the warm up. India = Depends on how quickly Yuvraj gets in touch Bangladesh = No jokes please Australia= Have the potential, but way too inexperienced to finish on winning note Ireland = need to find a couple more heroes besides O'Braeins

Posted by 1958 on (September 19, 2012, 9:31 GMT)

Dear All who are supporting Afghanistan. You people are jealous about Indian team and its winning sequence. I can smell the burning. I am not annoyed by the statements. Honestly, I pity you all. Please be patient, keep some of your comments till the match is over. All the best to Afghan supporters. Please dont miss Indian batting.

Posted by praveen4honestremark on (September 19, 2012, 9:27 GMT)

Afghan and India relations be good forever. .Now coming to match, Afghan is a tough team to beat in T20's. Other formats they need time. Afghans are generally fearless. So, it will be a interesting battle between India and Afghan team. Good players of spin too. So Indian bowlers need to bowl cleverly .Play Aggressive cricket. All the best Team India

Posted by Sandeep.M.J.D on (September 19, 2012, 9:21 GMT)

@BilalcheemaXI, Is that the reason (not being a bowler) most of the batsmen at No3 struggle against the mighty moving ball from Irfan? I'm ok if he is being called the best of the bowlers around. But under arm bowling... Are you kidding the world?

Posted by Waheed-Shirzay on (September 19, 2012, 9:16 GMT)

@Priya Singh..... your comment made me happy. great to see you love Afghans progress and we already know Indians love to see us play high level cricket and we thank them for this.

@Hamid Siddiqi

I think your expectation is touching the sky. calm down our team is not that strong yet. we have lack of experience and what we can expect is to give both teams a very high class game otherwise we already achieved alot by playing in this level.

Posted by Perdes on (September 19, 2012, 9:07 GMT)

I don't know why, but my heart tells me that India and Afghanistan will qualify for the super eight, Inshaallah. Here is a prediction:

Afg vs. India = Tie (due to rain) India vs. England = India wins Afg vs. England= Afg wins

Anyway, I wish the Afg team good luck and I look forward to seeing some massive sixes raining around the stadium and their brilliant fielding and bowling. Afg has very powerful hitters and they could be the underdogs.

Posted by   on (September 19, 2012, 9:06 GMT)

C'mon Afgun Boyz beat India

Posted by BilalcheemaXI on (September 19, 2012, 8:51 GMT)

m supporting the Indian team today because i always like to cheer for the underdogs :P i had better bowlers in my team when i was the captain of my primary school cricket team than the bowlers dhoni is having...irfan pathan ???? u call him a bowler??? he betr start bowling under arm :P

Posted by   on (September 19, 2012, 8:50 GMT)

I have no doubt at all that Afghanistan could beat any team in the world. And even if they beat India today I wouldn't call it an upset. I don't think Afghan team have anything less than the Indian squad, except the confidence of being the senior member of ICC and the top favorite for this game. This could easily be overshadow if the Afghan team enter the ground with the courage and confidence to win not to compete for losing with lesser margin. I don't see any reason why a player that scores 100s in domestic cricket could not reach double figures in big events, unless he has problems other than experience. My advice to the Afghan team would be to enter the ground with confident to win and play their game with the spirit of sport not a war. They should understand that defending one last run could still win you a match. Batting second will defiantly increase the wining chances of Afghan team. Wish you all the best and my prayers are with you!!!

Posted by   on (September 19, 2012, 8:41 GMT)

Its really gladdening to see Afghanistan making strides into realms of World Cricket. As an Indian, I would love Afghanistan to grow and prosper be it in cricket or be it in their socio economic conditions!

Though, I want India to win today but i hope and wish Afghanistan to advance through to super 8 or say semifinals. IF two teams i will have to support in World cup then i am supporting My home team - India and Afghanistan. Growth of Afghanistan and Ireland is very important for world cricket!!

All the Best India for today's match and all the best to Afghanistan for match against England and other teams beside India :) Long Live India Afghanistan Friendship :)

pray for them to beat India...

Posted by   on (September 19, 2012, 7:17 GMT)

Indian bowlers, except perhaps Ashwin , seems far inferior to that of Afghans. Hope our boys prove me wrong. At least Irfan & Balaji will try -- but with their speed and on Srilankan pitches , they may get clobbered by the powerfully built Afghans. We can only speculate about the number of sixes they may hit; and the distance to which they may send the ball flying. The Afghan boys' over-exuberance, and the resultant mis-hits are the only hope for India bowlers. Practice high catches, before the match. Zaheer does not have the fitness. Bhajji's shelf life is over. Chawla is hanging around only as a mascot. Dinda: before he starts the run-up, he goes thru the motions of a thinking bowler, looking around at the field, making minor shifting here and there -- the supposed to be gestures of a thinking bowler--; but once he starts running in, it is just 'blind' bowling!

Posted by   on (September 19, 2012, 7:11 GMT)

indian bowlers seem to be bowling slow when compared to other bowlers, india bowling is not an aggressive type of bowling its a defensive type.................we will win the world cup this time................and its suitable for srilankan pitch and we r the world champions..........

Posted by MilaMan on (September 19, 2012, 7:10 GMT)

On Fantasy World T20 - REALLY stupid that you can make unlimited changes - now everybody just load their team with 11 players from the next match!!Where is the fun in THAT!? Other Fantasy Leagues normally allows a couple of transfer opportunities (at most) through out the tournament, so you have to choose your squad carefully, not change it completely twice a day...

as an afghan i don't expect to win Afghansitan team even though i love my cricket team because i know India is a dangerous team that can win afg team... but i pray for my afghans to play well and and don't lose with a big difference score.... love india and afghanistan friendship

Posted by satish619chandar on (September 19, 2012, 6:56 GMT)

It is a known fact that Indian bowling is a bit weak but certainly, they had managed to do the job more often than when posted a good score by the batters. there are some exceptions like the warmup against Pakistan but still, they are a ok attack. Give them a swinging pitch and the likes of Irfan would make the ball talk as he did in ODI series against SL. the bowling attack is weak not not worst. We have seen some best of the bowling attacks going for runs too in their off days.

Posted by omar.choudhary on (September 19, 2012, 6:48 GMT)

I expect an upset possible unless India's batting, bowling and fielding clicks because Afghanistan have better bowlers and though may not have big names in their batting line up, India may give it away with their poor bowling attack.

I mean people who critizing Indian Cricket team and its bowling even know a jack of cricket. This very team won the T20 WC'07 and 2011 WC as well. And if I am not wrong core groups of bowlers are the same as they were in both WC. Zak, Bhajji, Irfan, Ashwin, Yuvi.. I mean one defeat doesnt make a team good or bad. Same critics who are going after the team and cursing them that they will lose to Afghanistan, those same people will be prasing this same team if it wins. Support has to be unconditional and permanent and not seasonal.

This T20 world cup in sub-continent is going to be very different from the previous versions. and I feel one of the asian teams is going to clinch the title.Spin is going to be the mainstay of the tournament and the teams with better turners of the ball will definitely have an advantage.Srilanka and Pakistan seem to be fortified with what is needed, though its yet to see that if one of them will emerge as the cup winners. Bangladesh might surprise and i feel they will go further in this tournament(mb semifinal).Unfortunately India not at all looks like a formidable unit to me. If we happen to recall the Indian squad which played the first T20 world cup, the side was inexperienced but a bunch of enthusiastic and young group. Most disappointing aspect is the pace bowlers,Zaheer is far away from his sublime best post world cup.Pathan would be appropriate as a third pacer if other two were good. And how on this earth, Balaji is in the team??? Include Venkatesh prashad, Devashis Mohanty..lol

It should be easy victory for India ,good that media hype is down with losses against NZ and Pak,that will certainly help to keep things real and down to earth.

Posted by KEVINSL on (September 19, 2012, 3:38 GMT)

To Afgan:- If you win the toss what ever pitch condition bowl first, dont worry, try to take only kohli's wicket. dont worry about others. some how try to keep them below 200. rest of the things will be done by ZAHEER, IRFAN,BHAJI.ready to face full tosses in the death overs. because Indian bowlers are masters of full tosses in the death.

Posted by BravoBravo on (September 19, 2012, 3:00 GMT)

If IND is a batting powerhouse (?????????) then, IND must always field first, and chase the target fearlessly and successfully and thereby wining every match. Mr. S Monga you are back. Surprisingly, you have been away for long. I dont think you are well versed either in Asian history or even in the game named CRICKET. You are good only in glamorizing the defeats of IND, like two consecutive washes which were inflicted upon IND.

Posted by getsetgopk on (September 19, 2012, 2:57 GMT)

Oh boy if only you could understand Pashto and hear what Mohammad Shehzad says behind the stumps you will roll on your floor of laughter during the entire match. He wont talk much if Afridi or Umar gul were at the crease as they all have the same mother tongue. The guy is very funny and a very good batsman as well. All the best to Afghanistan. Make us pround!!!

LOL I like the title. "Afghan journeymen aim to halt India". Like Indian team ever had it going in T20's and what are they going to halt? their streak of terrible outings in past two T20 world cups? India is not a good T20 team (lately minus sri lanka series terrible in every format).

Posted by   on (September 19, 2012, 0:30 GMT)

Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan, Sehwag, Balaji.. India has selected itself out of this world cup.

Posted by   on (September 19, 2012, 0:09 GMT)

for i would prefer india to play 11 batsmen ,don't select any bowler.score big and pray god for a win.Anyway the bowlers are not performing at all.So we will have a excuse that our batsmen are bowling.Let dhoni be our opening bowler.i reprimand dhoni for the decisions that he made of late.

Posted by vxttemp on (September 19, 2012, 0:08 GMT)

T20 is a lottery. I won't bet on any team though I believe WI and SA are favorites. Never watched any Afghan matches but I believe their bowlers will be good similar to Pak. I support India but as long as they play well and then I don't mind even if they lose.

Actually I really wanna thank U all Indians' folks for supporting my Country's team with your all awesome compliments, though I understand it is tough to see your team lose, still you showed by your comments a very healthy message. I totally Salute you Gentlmen and your respected team. It is all about having a good environment, mutual respect, honor, and losing or winning is all part ot the game.

Posted by   on (September 18, 2012, 23:07 GMT)

While I put the stats to sleep, the emotional sides of both teams are still awake. On one hand we have a side with immense experience but is struggling to maintain the vantage point due to a dead weighing bowling dept. On the other hand, a team's ready for a fight which is fresh of the boat. Well history hails David however T20 2012 is a different ball game... Only time will tell if its India (goliath) or the Afghan uderdogs that gets the fight. Hell with the outcome but be prepared for a thriller.

Posted by Angry_Bowler on (September 18, 2012, 23:04 GMT)

Openers are in bad form, Sehwag and Yuvraj are not fit and the bowling is weaker than Afghanistan's attack. But I am not stopping dreaming for the big win and so are the fans.

Posted by Kumail_Asadi on (September 18, 2012, 22:59 GMT)

No one is minow. This is T20. Indian bowling already flopped against Pakistan and Newzeland in last T20s. If Sehwag,Kohli and Gautam fails , Can u still imagine that indian bowlers will carry the team to winning position? I don't think so, Toss will be crucial for india. Win the toss and lose the game.

Posted by jb633 on (September 18, 2012, 22:25 GMT)

If India bat first they must look to post 200 +. With their trashy bowling attack they must get realise that 180/ 190 is not enough.

Posted by Raj12345 on (September 18, 2012, 21:28 GMT)

@Nampally You are always targeting TN players. Not sure what is the special. Seen asking to change Balaji because of last match where all bowlers except Ashwin failed to restrict runs. What is special here asking Balaji to remove.

Actual truth is Zaheer should be removed, since he is not producing any positive in spite of having more international experience. Now you can't ask for Ashwin replacement and include Bhajji, you have to wait one more match and see Ashwin failure.

@whatawicket: Wishful thinking my friend. What you have forgotten is England are a completely pathetic team in this competition without some experienced heads guiding them. Easy win for India on the cards. AFG can't pose a threat to a favorite of the tournament. IND batting is too strong, and bowling/fielding are of good standard as well. I expect India to win both matches in this stage and go to super 8s easily.

Good luck to Afghanistan. While I am an Indian supporter, I can't deny how extremely happy I am for Afghanistan. They are very talented and hard working. I want Afghanistan to do well in this competition. As far as India are concerned, their bowling is pathetic with guys bowling at 120 Ks in flat conditions. While India can definitely win here, their bowling will cost them unless they do something about it. Good luck and God bless.

@India-The-ultimate-winner,plz dont embarras other indian fans with such comments...being an indian fan i want india to win but as a cricket fan i want afgan to win against india,so its very tough to decide whom to support, may the best team wins but all in all we all want a good game of cricket..afgans r improving fast..india as a team is stagnant, there bowler r the same old mediocre one,we fans feels agitated to see our bowlers struggle as always....and the batting is also depending heavily on Kohli & Dhoni..sehwag,gambhir r in the team more for their past records, almost everytime we r virtually playing with just 4batsman,the lower order is non-existent,the top 2 r a walking wicket...this indian side does'nt give us a any hint of balance be it in bowling or in batting leave alone its fielding which is among the worst...may god help indian cricket

To be honest, Afghanistan are progressing with good speed. They have indeed some good players like Nabi, Hamid, Asghar etc.. Most of the Afghan players are strongly built, tall and more importantly their body language on field looks positive. I hope, India win. But will be cheering for Afghanistan against English men.

Posted by JustIPL on (September 18, 2012, 16:38 GMT)

I think India are playing first time against Afghanistan while Afghanistan have already faced the likes of Pakistan and Australia so the pressure is on India and the world champions have to prove that they are the best.

I wish them all the very best as should they beat India it will be do a world of good for the future of cricket in Afghanistan and more importantly they need something other than the ongoing w ar in their country. The people of Afghanistan deserve better. @India_The_Ultimate_Winner: My fellow Indian you must be joking..It's good to be positive but to be over confident and arrogant will only lead to our demise....pl be realistic.

Posted by bhrangi on (September 18, 2012, 16:18 GMT)

@India-The-ultimate-winner: Mate just relax., this is the problem with Indian fans. From heart i also want india to win the match. Worrying thing is our bowling unit , In T20 anything can happen in 1 or 2 overs so any team can beat any team on their day.

Posted by   on (September 18, 2012, 16:16 GMT)

@ India-The-ultimate-winner, The purpose of your comment is to instigate other people. Please refrain from that. India so far has played rather poorly in T20, In the rankings they are slightly ahead of Bangladesh, in the 7th position. In T20, you need at least 2/3 lethal bowlers. India has none. And they know it. They will be lucky to pass from the super 8. Sehwag is a hit or miss and proportion of miss is huge lately, Gambhir always get out with a bad luck. If Kohli is out cheaply, then we have a match in our hand. In a pace of two overs the match can change. The way, India could not get 49 out of 42 the other day with 6 wkts in hand. I have serious doubts....even against Afghanistan!

Posted by Eat_Sleep_Play_Cricket on (September 18, 2012, 16:16 GMT)

@India-The-ultimate-winner: Dont be so cocky. We all know our team is very unpredictable. We can score when every team fails and we can fail when every team excels. Afgans have some very good talent and we saw them perform in UAE against Australia. Good luck Afghans and i'm sure irrespective of the result your team will learn a lot from this tournament.

Posted by Solid_Snake on (September 18, 2012, 16:13 GMT)

Posted by Sarangarajan on (September 18, 2012, 16:04 GMT)

It would be very childish if Dhoni's men take Afghanistan lightly. One slip and they should book their return flight home. Their bowling is the weakest probably in the group of seeded teams.Whatever their batting can score ,their bowling can leak through equally.T20 match on any given day is full of all probabilities.Watch out India- every step you take should be decisive.

im equally or say most dissappointed with Zaheer Khan's performances.Zaheer was never made for t20's, limit him only to t20s.a veteran of 12 yrs of intl cricket cannot bowl like a school kid,he was bowling full tosses to kamran akmal, who cannot hit those to the stands?i hv never seen this weak, Indian bowling in many years, this is very serious issue, and mindset of dhoni is quit baffling too towards bowling.he is not supportive to bowlers, umesh yadav shud have been picked,he can be groomed as our strike bowler with speed.tomorrow Dinda shud be played replacing balaji

I will say Indians will struggle a bit to beat Afghans as their Bowlers have no rythm or plan all especially Zaheer and Balaji/ I can accept Bhaji for now as he may get few wickets with his experience .so brinn in Dinda for Zaheer and give Balaji one more chance as he had one bad match where as Zac has made mess in so many matches in recent past.they shoiuld not

dhoni should replace Balaji and bring back Dinda. The practice match against pakistan he was a complete mess. Even Irfan went for 12 an over. There is no specialist death bowler which is going to make things worse. Bringing in Dinda will offer some variation atlest, he bowls at a good pace which makes him a different option for Dhoni.Atleast that is the best we've got for now

i want India to win but I hope Afg can beat some of the other teams, they can be a good team and I bet they can be better the BD in the next 3-4 years

India and Afghanistan are NOT neighbors. The two countries are separated by Pakistani-administered Kashmir.

India-the-ultimate-winner: honestly you need to wake up and come back in 2012, where india is one of the weak teams of the tournament

My 6th Sense says that something dangerous & Shocking gona happen Probably an upset...C'mon Afghans make some history.

Some of the comments from 'possible' fake indian names makes me wonder if there is campaign to tarnish its image...I am actually surprised that Afghan's have performed so well consistently and I look forward to its matches against Bangladesh etc. If they succeed in surprising a test playing nation, they will cover a distance of 20-30 years in an year.

Insh Allah Afghanistan will win this match best of luck AFG.

India will do well to take this match seriously and not forget the experience of 2007 ODI WC.

Dhoni should be practical & realistic. India need to score over 200 with this weak bowling to win against top teams. India cannot rely only on its batting with arguably the most docile bowling, fit for batting practice. At least replace Balaji with Dinda & let Ashwin, ZAK & Irfan bowl accurately & economically. The fifth bowler should be Sehwag/Yuvraj/Rohit. Yuvraj is still far from what he was before his serious illness. I would rather have Raina & Rohit batting ahead of Yuvraj to assist in getting fast single. If Kohli, Rohit & Raina all get going, a total of 200 is a reality, if Sehwag & Gambhir give a flying start of 50 runs. India cannot relax by saying "we had an off day for bowlers against Pakistan". Another off day may knock them out. There are no off days in T-20. The minute you relax in bowling, batting or fielding - you may as well NOT play. It is that simple. On any given day,the weakest team can beat the strongest. So no off days against Afghanistan please, or you are Out.

Sehwag is going to blast!

Good luck to Afghanistan. They have made great strides in such short amount of time. ICC should allocate more matches for the team, it will help the players gain experience. All the best.

Nabi, Asghar, Hamid and Zadran are some serious players from Afghanistan.
