Asad Shafiq is among a trio of middle order discoveries over the last 18 months that should keep Pakistan's batting afloat in all formats for a while. An opener by trade domestically, he has been slotted into the middle order without yet nailing down a set position. His lack of inches is compensated by quick feet and he is assured and positive against spin. He is also a keen pincher of singles so that he brings a good energy to proceedings when he arrives. He hasn't set the world alight, but that could change in Sri Lanka.
Strengths
Because he isn't tall, he is a good cutter of the ball and is comfortable playing it late. The eye-catcher is his footwork, every-ready to dance down the pitch to spinners to put them off their plans.
