Hamish Bennett, the New Zealand fast bowler, has been ruled out of the World Cup due to an injury to his ankle and Achilles tendon. Seamer Daryl Tuffey, who had been called up as a standby for an injured Kyle Mills, will take Bennett's place in the XV.
Bennett injured himself during New Zealand's previous game against Sri Lanka in Mumbai after bowling just 4.1 overs, and limped off the field. He played four games this tournament, picking up six wickets including a four-for in his team's opening game against Kenya.
New Zealand have been plagued by injuries in this World Cup with Mills suffering from a quad strain after bowling a couple of overs against Canada, and captain Daniel Vettori hurting his knee while attempting a catch in the game against Pakistan. Both missed the clash against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, where New Zealand were comprehensively beaten.
Tuffey, who had arrived in India on Friday, had been playing for Auckland in the Plunket Shield, New Zealand's domestic first-class competition. He's played 94 ODIs, claiming 110 wickets at 32.12.

wit a run up like that i d be amazed if he has a career longer than 5 years...hamish bennets whole body-weight and the full force of the speed he comes in is rested on the lower part of his leg in the follow through..one of the worse possible actions ever seen when considering the injuries fast bowlers have to face..
Posted by thatsgold on (March 21, 2011, 7:09 GMT)anyone know when neil wagner can officially play for NZ?? i heard somewhere it wasn't until jan 2012!
Posted by NonStriker on (March 20, 2011, 22:50 GMT)I would have been happier to see Bennett replaced with a spinner, Patel (even though he hasn't been playing domestic ODs) or Bruce Martin. Obviously the team management has no faith in Woodcock and he is looking more and more like a classic selectorial fudge: pick a competent domestic batsman who can roll his arm over to do a specialist bowler's job. In a tournament where most teams have opened with a spinner and bowled up to 40 overs of spin that wasn't going to wash. Tuffey may be a goer anywhere else but on the subcontinent you just can't afford a specialist bowler to amble in and bowl 125Km without guile. We never really had much of a shot in this tournament but I think timid selection and conventional wisdom doesn't give us a better chance.
Posted byi heard someone say that TA BOULT can hurl ball at speed exceeding 150 kmph.....IS THAT TRUE????????IF SO THEN NZ WILL NOT FALL......ALONG WITH MILNE,GH WORKER,AP DE BOORDER,COREY ANDERSON,BOAM,LATHAM,NEESHAM,GUPTILL,ROSS,WILSON AND WATLING ...NZ COULD BECOME INDESTRUCTABLE.........GO NZ
Posted byNZ have all rounders who could win games on their day but they lack quality batsman like watling, wilson,AP de boorder,GH worker or rob nicol to work the ball in to the gaps to rotate the strike regularly....if these batsman stick to the basics they could all devolup in to class batsmans ......ryder has no footwork at all so he needs to start at the top along with mccullum.....then guptill, ross taylor,williamson,styris,oram,n.mccullum,vettori,mills,southee....GO NZ
