A former MCC young cricketer, Gary Wilson has cemented his spot as understudy to Niall O'Brien in Ireland's wicketkeeping ranks. Wilson could also secure a place in the starting XI as a batsman alone, and is becoming increasingly proficient both behind and in front of the stumps. Nurtured by Ireland's youth system from Under-15 level upwards, he has county experience and signed for Surrey in 2005 as cover for Jon Batty.
Strengths
Wilson's versatility as a batsman - he can bat anywhere in the top seven and has had success as an opener - and his experience will be his main assets.

Wilson made his senior debut just after the last World Cup in the Caribbean, but he played in two Under-19 tournaments in 2003-04 and 2005-06, making 64 against West Indies and 48 against Australia first time round, and 69 in a narrow loss to England in the Eoin Morgan-captained team two years later.
