Until June 5, 2009, Tom de Grooth's career was largely unfulfilled. One match may not change that but his savage 49 off 30 balls to floor England on the opening of the World Twenty20 at Lord's brought Netherlands' their best day in cricket. It contained one six, off Paul Collingwood, that was struck so powerfully it appeared never to land. His experience, allied to his ability to clear the ropes, alongside some smart, if not devastating, offspin, make him crucial to Netherland's World Cup fortunes. But doubt remains if he can perform consistently.
