Bangladesh have announced their preliminary squad for the World Cup, and there were no major surprises in the 30-man pool. They have included allrounder Alok Kapali, who last played international cricket in 2008 before defecting to the ICL, and 21-year-old fast bowler Dolar Mahmud, who has not played for Bangladesh since October 2009.

With 65 caps, Kapali is an experienced player, but was erratic in his six years of international cricket, averaging 19.83 with the bat and 49.75 with his legspinners, before becoming part of the exodus to the ICL. It was that exodus that opened the doors for Mahmud to made his international debut, though he couldn't cement his place in the limited opportunities he got.

Bangladesh are riding high after two series wins on the trot - a 4-0 drubbing of New Zealand in October and a 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe in a series which ended on Sunday. They have no further international matches scheduled before February 19, when the global tournament starts.

Sri Lanka were the first team to announce their preliminary squad, doing so on December 13. All 14 teams participating in the tournament have to announce their preliminary line-ups by December 19, and zero in on the final fifteen before January 19 next year.

Preliminary Squad: Shakib Al Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Ashraful, Imrul Kayes, Junaid Siddique, Roqibul Hassan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Nazmul Hossain, Naeem Islam, Rubel Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Abdur Razzak, Suhrawadi Shuvo, Shahriar Nafees, Nazimuddin, Shamsur Rahman, Jahirul Islam, Sahagir Hossain, Syed Rasel, Shahadat Hossain, Mahbubul Alam, Dolar Mahmud, Mithun Ali, Nasir Hossain, Shuvogoto Chowdhury, Shabbir Rahman, Alok Kapali, Enamul Haque Jr.

selecting 30 players is no tough for selectors but selecting 15 players will be tough for selectors.i think present selectors are experienced and tested for their nice selecting decision.no emotion no partiality will make selecting players,we hope as well as our nation want.world cup is just 7 or 8 match tournament not more than that.so the players who will not be selected finally, should not worry or dis heart because Bangladesh is now continuing play matches,if changes is not there is not a fact.selecting captain is another burning problem for selectors as well as cricket board.Mashrafy is falling again injury so Shakib will be only choice and definitely perfect choice for Bangladesh team.as a associate captain my choise is Musfique,he is most younger and regular.

my world cup would be 1 Tamim -best bg batsman aggressive 2 Imrul Kayes can hold other end 3 Junaid Siddique - got the ability to play long innings and can hit ball long way and got good defense. 4. raqibul hasan - bg best fielder i want him as 12th man eat up too much ball and if bg bats man play too expensive shot pay the prize then u need guys like him can hold up one end . 5 Shakib 6 Shahriar Nafees - can be use as hard hitter in power play of mainly batting can be move up if needed 7 Mushfiqur Rahim 8Mashrafe Mortaza - if fit is good 9Abdur Razzak 10. Shafiul Islam - good find for bg 11 , Rubel Hossain - need more consistence but dont use him if the opposition got spin weakness like south Africa ... 12 Naeem Islam - good fielder, decent bating, blowing can be useful during power play. 13. Mahmudullah - out of form last six month if he can contribute with bat during power play must have in staring 11 because can bat bowling and field well

Aftab ahmed could have been the part of at least 30 man squad. My supported 11:- 1 .Tamim Iqbal 2. Imrul kayes 3.Jnaed siddique 4.Shahriar Nafis 5.Shakib-Al-Hasan 6.Alok Kapali 7.Mushfiqur Rahim 8.Mashrafee Mortaza 9.Abdur Razzak 10.Shafiul 11. Rubel Hussain

1. tamim iqbal 2. imrul kayes 3. shariar nafees 4. mashfiqur rahim 5. junayed siddique/raqibul hasan 6. shakib al hasan 7. alok kapali/mahmudulla/nayeem islam 8. mashrafee murtaza 9. suhrawadi shuvo (mahmuddla/nayeed?) 10. abdur razzak 11. shafiul islam/rubel hossain/nazmul hossain.

Junayed isn't as aggressive as the 1st 3 batsmen; he can be useful; could play a dependable role in the upper middle order. Raqibul could be replaced by Junayed. his average in ODIs is 29.30 w/ SR of 61.79, both higher than Junayed. Mashfiqur could be dragged down to number 5/6 & Junayed could be pushed up bt might not be a good idea as the 1st 3 batsmen are also left handed. Mahmuddulla & Nayeed are sort of the same players; however, kapali is mostly preferred. Shuvo is not as demanding as Shakib & Razzak, so replacing him w/ Mahmuddla/Nayeed could pay off, as they are both usable, part-time off-spinners. Who pairs up w/ Mashrafee? I would prefer Shafiul/Rubel over Nazmul.

Seeing Aftab Ahmed out of the squad, I'm very much disappointed. He would've been a very handy cricketer for Bangladesh if provided proper chances. My best 11 : 1. Tamim 2. Nafees 3. Junaid 4. Ashraful 5. Shakib 6. Alok 7. Mushfiq 8. Mahmudullah 9. Masrafee (C) 10. Razzak 11. Shafiul Substitutes (4): 12. Shuvo 13. Naeem 14. Roqibul 15. Rubel .

We wanna enter into the second phase of the World Cup 2011. Good luck Tigers.

Good squad, bringing back some experience, but is it really necessary, I think they should use some young blood but overall a strong 30 and will be hard to select final 15 and then final XI for the matches. At home and in good form, will fancy there chances well and could get a quarter final place. Good luck Bangladesh!!

In my opinion selecting a preliminary squad means inviting some good player to assist in the net session. Otherwise I don't think there would be so much change in the main squad. But I was expecting Kapali to see in any of the two series we have played before world cup. Otherwise, I am sure he won't do well now because of lack of international match practice. Still if selector give him a chance, my choice would be inclusion of him in place of Roqibul Hassan/Shahriar Nafees. Because to my opinion he is fit for test cricket more. 15 man squad - 1. Tamim Iqbal; 2. Imrul Kayes; 3. Junaid Siddique/Shahriar Nafees/Roqibul Hassan/Alok Kapali (Any 3 of this 4); 6. Mushfiqur Rahim; 7. Shakib Al Hasan (C); 8. Mohammad Ashraful; 9. Naeem Islam; 10. Mahmudullah; 11. Mashrafe Mortaza (VC); 12. Shafiul Islam; 13. Suhrawadi Shuvo; 14. Rubel Hossain; 15. Abdur Razzak.
