Legspinners Devendra Bishoo and Anthony Martin, fast bowler Jason Holder, and batsmen Jonathan Carter and Kirk Edwards are the uncapped players named in West Indies' preliminary 30-man squad for the 2011 World Cup.
The list also included former captain Ramnaresh Sarwan and wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin, both of whom were excluded from the recent tour of Sri Lanka. Fast bowlers Fidel Edwards and Jerome Taylor, who have just begun their comeback from long-term injuries, were not included. Brendan Nash is the only player on a WICB central retainer contract left out of the mix.
The squad will be trimmed by half for the tournament, which starts on February 19 in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India.

west indies have a powerful batting attack. only problem is there bowling here. my 15 are. FRom the current selection and not my own make up pick
1. C Gayle, 2.A Barath, 3.S Chanderpaul, 4. K Edwards, 5. Darren Bravo, 6.R Sarwan, 7. C Baugh Jr, 8. S Benn 9. D Sammy 10. A Russell, 11. K Roach 12. N Miller 13. J Carter, 14. T Best 15. N Pascal. I personally think Sammy should forget about been an all rounder and put his focus on batting or bowling, because he isnt capable of been an all rounder, and i know he give his 101% to the team dont matter how bad a player he is . J Carter is a very explosive batsman let see what happen. pollard wouldnt be in my 15. reason he only makes his runs in ipl and not for west indies. alos Bravo wouldnt be in my sqaud to since his recent performance is really really bad. it's really sad to see that K Roach still dont have an experience bowler to take the persure off him i hope one of these bowlers step up and take the persrre off him.
Posted byThank you Metman for letting me know about Patrick Browne. Here is my IDEAL 11 believing that Jerome Taylor and Fidel Edwards are really not match fit and without match practice. WI doesn't have wicket-keeper batsman who can bat nor a good fourth n fifth bowler. 1. C Gayle 2. A Barath 3. Darren bravo 4. R Sarwan 5. S Chanderpaul 6. B Nash 7. D Bravo 8. P Browne 9. S Benn 10. K Roach 11. A Russell / Jason Holder
Posted by Metman on (December 25, 2010, 20:43 GMT)If Pollard with his av. can make the 30,then Dwayne Smith should make it too !Both are monumental failures, one is IN the other OUT ! WHY? I also agree that Nash should be in any 30 called to WI cricket .Patrick Browne has been called up by the Bajan selectors for the 2011 season, and hopefully he will play, certainly in the 4 day format.Anybody else but Ramdin, even Lendl Simmons with his part time wicketkeeping will be a better choice.Fidel Edwards played a first class game for his club about a week ago, only bowled 4 overs though, don't know how fit he is .Taylor has been named in the Jamaican squad for the 2011 season, will see how fit he is!
Posted byWhat happened to the bloke called Patrick Browne? Seemed decent enough. Any idea where he is? Anybody but please NO Denesh Ramdin!!!
Posted byi think nash should be in the squad, would increase WI chances, they need experience which they lack.they also need Edwards and Taylor back in the line up,a full strength WI squad can be dangerous.
Posted byGood to see Ramnaresh Sarwan included in the 30 and I hope he'll make the cut. I also like the leg spinner Devendra Bishoo. All the best West Indies.
Posted byI would like to see dwayne smith in the squad since shillingford can no longer participate!
Posted bymy 14-gayle,barath,devon smith, darren bravo, sarwan, chanderpaul, dwayne bravo, pollard, ramdin, sammy, benn, roach, ravi rampaul, btween spinner aur all rounder....dwayne smith would hav been perfect.....
Posted by shameerpvt on (December 23, 2010, 8:27 GMT)Nash was looking a good player & Edwards would be dangerous too.... Inclusion of these two players would increase WI's chances of WC.
Posted byTaylor and Edwards are not match ready, Samuels can't force his way into the middle order right now. I'm disappointed Dwayne Smith wasn't considered. The WICB should add another spinner to replace Shillo, there's no guarantee his action will be corrected in time.
