Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has said the delay in naming the captain of the World Cup squad has led to the creation of factions within the national side.

Currently Misbah-ul-Haq, who has seven half-centuries in his previous seven international innings, is the captain of the Test side while Shahid Afridi has led the limited-over teams over the past year. Under Misbah's charge, Pakistan drew a Test series against South Africa in UAE, in November, before winning the two-Test series in New Zealand. Afridi returned to the helm for the ongoing one-day series, with Misbah as his deputy, and Pakistan were thrashed by nine wickets in the first game, by a New Zealand side that was on a 11-match losing streak.

In the meantime, the selectors finalised their World Cup squad, but did not name the captain, making Pakistan the only team that is yet to identify its leader for the event.

Inzamam said the uncertainty was hurting Pakistan's preparations. "With only three weeks left to the World Cup, Pakistan have no captain and the blame goes to the PCB for creating an impasse which has divided the team into two groups, supporting Afridi and Misbah," Inzamam said. "In this scenario one cannot have high expectations for the team."

Inzamam was in charge of Pakistan during their disastrous 2007 World Cup campaign, which ended with a first-round exit after a loss to Ireland, which was followed by the sudden death of their coach Bob Woolmer.

"The PCB has failed to control the situation and if Pakistan fares badly in the World Cup, people will accuse the players and not the board."

The selection of the Pakistan's 15-man squad without consulting coach Waqar Younis or the captain also came in for criticism from Inzamam. "When a team is without a captain how can a proper strategy be made? The team is playing a one-day series in New Zealand but they do not know who will be their captain in the World Cup which is very damaging."

Shahid Afridi of Pakistan or Dhoni of India will lift the World Cup on April 2nd' 2011. But the delay in selection of team is killing Pakistan's chances in the ICC World cup. Miandad, Imran, Inzi, Salahuddin ( Sallu) Moin Khan, Waqar Yunus and Rashid Latif are supporting Afridi. Sarfaraz Nawaz, Aamer Sohail, Salman Butt, Abdul Qadir and Zaheer Abbas are supporting Misbah-ul-Haq. This will create rift in the team, it is better to find a compromise candidate in Younus Khan.

common guys Afridi will be the captain why there is so much delay and i assure you that Pakistan will win the Icc Worldcup 2011 and definitrely the whole team will get a wrm welcome when they come back after winning the prestigious trophy.

whatever they do, pakistan has less chances to win in this world cuo for sure!!!

I think the best choice is Younis khan to lead Pakistan in World cup...then after WC Ahmad Shehzad.

Misbah is the best choice as a captian, Afridi can concentrate well in batting and bowling if he is not captian, this will relieve certain pressure on Afridi!!!!!!!

Although, both guys don't deserve this role and pakistan need to identify & groom some one from young lads if they're planning for any betterment in future. For WC, we don't have choice but to rely on available resources and Afridi seems to be a better choice under current circumstances.

asis rout..how can harbhajan is better bowlar than swann plz explain here.....u say he is prety avg bowlar now than tell me when he is good bowlar ??? and i think u dont watch pakistan matches therefore u dont look him taking wickets of batsmans....and plz look harbhajan avg and strike rate in odis and test and t20.....

@ZahidSaltin Harbhajan one of the best spinners going around? The last time I saw him bowling the batsmen through the gate was two and a half years back.He is a pretty average bowler now.His batting is saving him just like what bowling did to Afridi for a while.Afridi has to lead this team.WC is no place to experiment.Pakistan has a good chance at the WC and they will make it to the semis if they apply themselves.

of-course Afridi is the best choice for captain..... misbah is just a another plyer who dont really need to be in this team. bc of him/pcb been stupid lyk always been making a conflict between the plyer.... Afridi does not ply for himself to be a captain but ply for the country and team/fans......
