Tamim Iqbal, the Bangladesh opening batsman, has announced his intentions of top scoring in every match he plays during the 2011 World Cup, which starts on February 19.

"I want to score my first century at Chittagong in the World Cup," he told the Daily Star. "I will try to be the highest scorer in every match in the upcoming World Cup."

Two of Tamim's three ODI centuries have come at Mirpur, while his only away century was against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. He has only played two matches in Chittagong, and narrowly missed out on a century in his last match there, in December 2010, when he smashed 95 against Zimbabwe. He will have two opportunities during the World Cup, with Bangladesh playing group games against England and Netherlands on his home ground.

After a successful first half of 2010, in which he scored an ODI century against England and two Test centuries against them at Lord's and Old Trafford, Tamim underwent surgery on his wrist in September and had to miss Bangladesh's 4-0 home ODI series win against New Zealand. He returned for the series against Zimbabwe and the 95 he scored in the fifth ODI won Bangladesh the series.

Bangladesh had a team practice in Chittagong on Friday, and Tamim said he was putting in long hours in the nets. "All of us are enjoying the sessions and the environment is also good. Now I am mentally relaxed and am practicing batting for a long time in the nets," Tamim said. "You will have good or bad days but we are all prepared to give our best. If we all do well, the team will gain from the tournament."

Bangladesh will play a warm-up match against Canada in Chittagong, on February 12, and then another against Pakistan on February 15, in Mirpur.

In the 2006-07 World Cup, Bangladesh stunned India in the first round, with Tamim scoring a half-century. Junaid Siddique, the left-hand batsman, hadn't yet made his international debut then, but he is expected to be Bangladesh's No.3 during this year's tournament, and is aware of how important their first fixture, against India in Mirpur on February 19, will be.

"As Bangladesh will play the first match of the World Cup with India, we are trying to develop our performance," Junaid said. "I hope we will achieve the right result for the country."

Junaid started his career as an opener, but has shifted down to the No. 3 spot in recent times. "Last one year I am playing at No. 3 and feeling comfortable in this position," he said. "I think those who are openers can suit themselves to any position." Junaid averages just 16.72 in ODIs he has played in as an opener, while at No. 3 his average is 33.57.

@Vatto As you can see you are repeatedly being hit for your unusual thoughts about BAN team. FAN LIKE YOU NEVER WANNA GIVE UP AND THAT'S A SHAME TO IND CRICKET. Well, 1st of all, DON'T forget that IN ONLY 12 YEARS we have scratched on the calendar of cricket marked with what's now called HISTORIES. Just last year we have completed the list of beating all the international nations INCLUDING BIGGIES LIKE AUS,SA,WI,SRI, and OF COURSE IND..you name it!!! Just FOR FYI NOT ALL OF OUR wins came on the home grounds BUT abroad as well.. If you should know, we DID WIN a series ABROAD against WI and recently 4-0 against a fully armored and one of the most proficient teams of all time, NZ. Just for FACT, in 2010 IND won a series against AUS BUT they only played 1 match and the other 2 matches were RAIN WASHED!!!! AUS were never given a chance to fight back SO I AM WONDERING, SHOULD I CALL IT JUST A LUCKY WIN FOR IND??????? Don't talk about unnecessary stuff that would put you in REAL SHAME.

Every team will surely hear the buzzzzzz from BANGLADESHIs in their own soil.

tamim will justify his speech with his bat inshallah as he has always done.... Hope his spirit spreads among all other bd tigers..... No matter who is the opponent, a spirited bd team is capable of killing all those so called giants....

@vatto..... responses to ur last comments... i understand that bd has a great % of wins against weaker opponents... u ask us to win consistently against stronger teams to prove ourselves... well to do some1 needs to provide us a chance to play.... lets start with india... BCCI always turns down invitations from BD or they never invite us to play in india... 2nd comes australia.. who does the same... and followed by few other countries. u are asking us to prove... let me remind.. we just won 4-0 with full strength team of NZ.. not only that we just lost 2-1 to england in england... these are only the few matches we play with stronger team.. u can see its not bad either... for seeing us progress some team should show interest playing with us... it might be 2 series with a stronger team without a fight.. from 3 rd there will be fight.. and one series bd will also win it... all i say is.. we need chance to play and prove that we are not as week as before... all we need is respect n +veity

tigers are roaring...defend the wild attack...save urself if u can...

i just saw the odi bowlers ranking and surprised that there's no bowlers from india...how they stop tamim..?.poor poor...

Posted by Mahmud on (February 7, 2011, 16:14 GMT)

@vatto, icc ranking is one of the recognition...and ur team is no. 2...and u should also know that wigden award is also a great recognition for a cricketer...and tamim declared as no. 1 cricketer of the year...so u should appreciate it and he got the right to wish such achievement...whats the problem here..?.in a sense, he is now in great form rather than so called big bash players of indian team...though i know its hard to absorb this speech by u...but this is the reality...u should also remember that shakib has a consistent performance and holding no. 1 all-rounder position above al of ur mentioned quality team...i got surprised when u talk about quality and slandered of opponent...ur funny talking explain that icc and wigden didn't made quality decision...it also destroy india's no. 2 position as it declared by icc...pls be polite to talk about any great players and nation...
