Kyle Mills, the New Zealand seamer, has been ruled out of the remainder of the World Cup with an injury and will be replaced by left-arm fast bowler Andy McKay.

Mills was not one of New Zealand's first-choice seamers in the early stages of the tournament, but Hamish Bennett's injury gave him his opportunity. Mills played in three matches, but suffered a quadricep strain in the last of those games, against Canada, on March 13. He missed the quarter-final victory against South Africa, and although his injury had improved, he would not be fully fit in time to play the semifinal on March 29.

Despite not being in the XI, Mills was involved in a mid-pitch confrontation when he carried the drinks during South Africa's chase in Mirpur. Mills exchanged words with South Africa batsman Faf du Plessis following the run-out of AB de Villiers, and has been fined for breaching the ICC code of conduct.

McKay, 30, was a part of New Zealand's disastrous tour of the subcontinent late last year. He will join the squad in Colombo on March 27, two days ahead of the semi-final, where New Zealand will play the winner of the Sri Lanka v England quarter-final clash. McKay is the second replacement player in the New Zealand side, after Daryl Tuffey, who came in for Bennett.

You are right Anver777, it doesn't matter who plays in the this NZ side, we're still going to smash you out of the park and the world cup.

I beg you to please use Tuffey as replacemnet for Mills and not McKay. Its not the time for trial. Tuffey can be like an allrounder. Please don't involve McKay in the first XI.

@nzcricket174: McKay was good enough to dismiss Tendulkar in a Test in India, why do you say he's terrible? He had a good tour of India and only injury prevented him from playing the home series against Pak in NZ. I thought McKay grasped the conditions well, and he was sharp too. Being a left-armer gives him another advantage, and since NZ appear to have dropped the Franklin experiment, they need a left arm variation. Dan Vettori seems to have lost his bowling mojo.

Perhaps you're mistaking McKay with his Oz counterpart, Clint. Are they related?

Sad that Kyle Mills is injured :( But McKay is a good bowler too

Surely, Chris Martin would have been a better option. His bowling in the Tests against Pakistan was really great where he took a five-wicket haul. It certainly highlighted the amount of experience he had. I don't think the Kiwi selectors haven't done the right thing here..................

i strongly believe that luke woodcock is dropped in semi final in place of mckay he has nice variations as fast bowler & has good figures against india earlier. SL is good player of spin which we have seen in QF. England Best Spinner was gone wicketless & over 6 runs. So NZ Should go with pace attack. Oram, Styris, Southee, Mckay will be good choice for 35 overs with 15 overs of spin from vettori & Nathan Mcullum

Chris Martin would be of been a better option. He does well against the best and he is also experience.
