Thanks Sid R. Well, Bangladesh are facing a mountain here, but I am sure the whole of Mirpur believes they can pull it off. Their chances are slim, but here's hoping they will make a fist of it.
Ahsan: "I hope Bangladesh dont come out with the same tactics as they did against Pakistan in Asia Cup, recently."
This is the game Ahsan is talking about, where Bangaldesh didn't bother going after the target. I hope they won't do that today.
Sreesanth to open the attack, Tamim faces. Surprising that Zaheer is not bowling first up. Two slips.
|
0.1 |
Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal,
2 runs,
short and wide first up, Tamim does well to reach out and pat it into the covers for a couple
|
0.2 |
Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal,
4 leg byes,
Sree begins with a couple of shockers, this one swings down the leg side and clips Tamim's pads on the way to fine leg.
|
0.3 |
Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal,
no run,
over-pitched this time and Tamim punches with authority, mid on has to move across fast to stop that
|
0.4 |
Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal,
no run,
We have the first referral of the World Cup. Umpire Dharmasena has said not out to Sree's lbw appeal and Dhoni has referred it. Sree has bowled a monster of a yorker and it has swung in viciously as Tamim looks to get across and the n arrests the forward movement, pulls the foot back as it crashes into his toes, and falls over. Sree thinks it is plumb, but replays suggest it might have marginally missed leg stump. Banana swing on that, it swerved into line and then darted back to land on leg. Replays say it might have carried on down the leg, so India have lost one referral.
|
0.5 |
Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal,
2 runs,
an eventful over this, Sreesanth has blowed hot, cold and every other temperature in between including lukewarm. Another short ball sitting up as it angles across Tamim who slaps into the covers for a couple
|
0.6 |
Sreesanth to Tamim Iqbal,
no run,
back of a length on middle and off to end the over, not much Tamim could do. He stays in the crease and punches it back.

4 leg byes,
Zaheer lands one down the leg side now, and it clips the pads on the way to fine leg. Wayward start this.

full-pitched on off stump, Kayes comes forward into the drive but finds mid off
|
1.5 |
Khan to Imrul Kayes,
1 run,
this one hurries off the deck, from back of a length and Kayes was late on the attempted punch off the backfoot. It gets a thick outside edge and runs down to third man

FOUR,
uppish, but safe. Sreesanth again offers width, and challenges Kayes to clear the infield. Kayes obliges, staying beside the line, he opens the wrists and drives on the up, manages to get it just over cover point
|
2.2 |
Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
good line, not much Kayes can do with this, lands back of a length at decent pace around middle and off, Kayes goes back and punches defensively to mid off
|
2.3 |
Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes,
FOUR,
Sree is getting the ball to do things in the Mirpur nights. Another virtually unplayable inswinger to the left hander, the seam is menacingly straight as the ball curls in the air and Kayes is lucky to get anything in that. Thick inside edge as he nearly falls over, it misses the stumps and heads to fine leg for four
|
2.4 |
Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
this one is a touch too leg-sidish and is nearly tickled along to the fine leg boundary. Sree gets away with it
|
2.5 |
Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
a bouncer like he means it. Short, and pacy. Kayes thought of rocking back and playing with a horizontal bat, but decided to just arch his back and keep the face out of the way. Zippy.
|

another good ball to end the over, Kayes looks to find some room outside off and free his arms, but Sree cramps him and he crunches it out to cover

back of a length, and not the same kind of carry this time as Tamim stays back and punches to mid on
|
3.2 |
Khan to Tamim Iqbal,
1 run,
big swing again, Zaheer moves it away like a yo-yo. Tamim flowed into a cover drive before being alarmed by the away movement and then had to adjust quickly by opening the face. Still got a thick outside edge and it flew to third man
|
3.3 |
Khan to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
tight stuff, on off stump and Kayes stays behind the line to defend
|
3.4 |
Khan to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
Zaheer has slowly eased himself into a good rhythm, another one on the money forcing Kayes back to defend down the track
|
3.5 |
Khan to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
three on the trot that Kayes has played back to, he stays back and plays it back down the track
|
3.6 |
Khan to Imrul Kayes,
FOUR,
well played, Kayes. Zaheer lands it not more than half a foot shorter than the previous three deliveries and Kayes pounces on it with a vengeance. He rocks back and forces it away with a pull shot that trickles away to the square leg fence

|

Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes,
FOUR,
and another boundary, Bangladesh are going after this! Not a bad ball from Sree, short but not very wide, Kayes looks for the slash-cut and gets an inside edge that runs between the off stump and Dhoni, very straight, through fine leg ground for four
|
Sree goes round the wicket.
|
4.3 |
Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes,
(no ball) FOUR,
he's over-stepped! Scorching inswinger, and Kayes does well to move the feet away and get bat on the flick. And what's more, it is four through square leg. Here comes the free-hit
|
4.3 |
Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes,
FOUR,
Mirpur roars! Sree bangs it short from over the wicket and Kayes seemed to be expecting it. He was back in a flash and swiped it with a mighty swing of the bat through square leg. Very nearly a six. Astounding hit.
|
4.4 |
Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
How boring. Back of a length on off stump from round the wicket, Kayes stays behind the line and defends to the off side
|
4.5 |
Sreesanth to Imrul Kayes,
FOUR,
Kayes Kayoes Sree! Shot of the innings so far. Sree did not over-pitch this. He did not drop it short. He landed this back of a length and gave Kayes a sliver of width outside off. Kayes just plonked the front foot across and drilled this over the covers. Fury unleashed.
|
4.6 |

|
5.2 |
Khan to Imrul Kayes,

back of a length outside off, Zaheer needs to repeat that ball a few times and somehow convince Sreesanth to. Kayes stays back and defends to the off side. Tamim has so fat been reduced to a sideshow
|
5.3 |
Khan to Imrul Kayes,
2 runs,
again, off-target. Slides onto the pads with the angle and Kayes flicks through square leg for a couple more
|
5.4 |
Khan to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
back of a length and angling into the pads, Kayes can't do much with it as he looks to work it to the leg side
|
5.5 |
Khan to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
good length on off stump, a rare quiet over (so far), as Kayes gets half forward and opens the face to guide into the covers
|
5.6 |
Khan to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
nicely done Zaheer. Sticks religiously to that line on off stump and Kayes again plays defensively to the off side. Sanity, partially restored.

back of a length on middle and leg, Tamim can't get power into the punch down the ground
|
6.2 |
Patel to Tamim Iqbal,
no run,
Munaf gets one to hold its line as it goes away with the angle, and Tamim has his trademark disdainful flash through the off side. Doesn't make contact this time, but sets up a stiff breeze around the ground
|
6.3 |
Patel to Tamim Iqbal,
1 run,
another outside edge for Tamim as he goes hard at a ball angling across him, it runs down to third man
|
6.4 |
Patel to Imrul Kayes,
no run,
tight from Munaf, you will get fewer deviations from the mean from this man, as opposed to Sree. Back of a length and decent bounce, would have carried just over off and middle. Kayes stays behind the line and defends
|
6.5 |
Patel to Imrul Kayes,
OUT,
If you dropped a pin in Mirpur, you'd hear it in Dhaka. Kayes has played onto Munaf. Back of a length again from Munaf, that's his business area as he gets this to angle across from slightly wide of the crease. Kayes went for the cut, and was almost surprised by the drop in pace. In hindsight, he did not have the room for the cut. Inside edge and it crashes into the stumps. The crowd loses its voice.

SIX,
whoa, Caribbean disdain! That's been merrily whipped off the pads from back of a length and dumped over deep square leg. The timing was incredible, no one expected it to carry all the way. Yusuf Pathan at deep square leg sure didn't as he ran back. Unfortunately, Yusuf has tripped on the boundary skirting and goes headlong into the advertising boards. He's down on the ground now. Must be said, why do they have metal (or is it wood?) hoardings out there? Shouldn't it be a softer material? He seems to have injured his right leg as he tripped. The physio is out there checking on him.

Tamim's best shot of the evening. He's looked anxious and fidgetty through the off side so far, but not this time. He waits for a short of length ball to come along and then punches it on top of the bounce between the men in the covers. Huge effort running back from Kohli, but it is four.

Slow delivery, tossed up invitingly on middle and leg, and given the circumstances, Shakib had to go for that. He got under it, but couldn't quite go all the way. Harbhajan set himself up a few yars in from deep midwicket and pouched it. Pocketed it, would be more appropriate

Elaborator: "Sreesanth can dive all he wants, but Munaf has got 3 wickets already in this match. Conclusion: Munaf handles pressure way better, because he has more experience."

Batting Powerplay on, by default
|
46.1 |
Patel to Raqibul Hasan,
SIX,
Raqibul or Rocky Balboa? #youprefer He's launched this over midwicket without a fuss. Munaf lands one in the slot and he just smokes the leather off that one, and it lands in the green seats behind cow corner. Violent.
|
46.2 |
Patel to Raqibul Hasan,
3 runs,
and now he goes off side, Raqibul rolls along with another smooth shot through the covers since the field is in. Three runs taken
|
46.3 |
Patel to Naeem Islam,
OUT,
Naeem nailed. How many of you have Munaf in your fantasy team? Raking it in, eh? He does what he does best - keeps it back of a length on off stump. This one keeps low too as Naeem plays all around it, in an attempt to flick. Munaf doesn't appeal as much as direct the umpire to raise his finger. And he obliges. Four for Munaf.

Razzak comes out, the Bangladesh version. Unfortunately.

Patel to Abdur Razzak,
no run,
this one is on the pads and slides down after clipping the protection
|
46.5 |
Patel to Abdur Razzak,
no run,
and now a yorker from Munaf. Full and tight on off stump, Razzak barely digs it out

no run,
ends with a back of length ball on off stump, defended to the off side

Zaheer in for his final over.
|
47.1 |
Khan to Raqibul Hasan,
no run,
full and just outside off, slips past the outside edge and through to the keeper
|
47.2 |
Khan to Raqibul Hasan,
1 run,
another very full ball outside off, this time Hasan gets bat on it and picks up a single through point
|
47.3 |
Khan to Abdur Razzak,
1 wide,
slides down the left-hander's leg stump and it is called a wide
|
47.3 |
Khan to Abdur Razzak,
1 run,
full and outside off, Razzak looks to carve over the off side, and plays it away to deep cover-point
|
47.4 |
Khan to Raqibul Hasan,
no run,
whoa, that reverse swung like a snake on narcotics. Started wide of leg stump, curled viciously inwards and straightens before landing at the toes. Hasan does well to keep it out
|
47.5 |
Khan to Raqibul Hasan,
1 leg bye,
tonk on the helmet with a fine bouncer, though this one was not fast. Hasan thought of backing away, then ducked, and it followed his head and clunked the protection. They take a 'head' bye.
|
47.6 |
Khan to Abdur Razzak,
OUT,
and gone. Easy as it comes, Zaheer has a wicket off his last ball. Length ball on off stump, holds its line and thuds into Razzak's pads as he tries to work it leg side. Would have hit leg

|
48.3 |
Patel to Shafiul Islam,
OUT,
Harbhajan throws down the stumps and Shafiul has to go. Shafiul defends from leg stump, straight to Harbhajan swooping in from wide mid on, and Hasan sent him back. Harbhajan hit the stumps at the batsman's end and it was all over.

Widish slip for Munaf. Can he get five?
|

no run,
gets the outside edge, but it scoots along too low for Yusuf to catch at the lone slip
|
48.5 |
Patel to Rubel Hossain,
no run,
and now a legcutter, on another day it would have got him a wicket. Rubel did well to cover the line with an adjustment of his feet.

No five-for, but end of a nice spell from Munaf. Rubel lets one go, a foot outside off

1 run,
this one turns in from outside off and Rubel swipes with the spin over midwicket for a single

Harbhajan Singh to Rubel Hossain,

straightens from off and he stays back to poke it out to the off side. India imperiously surge to the top of the World Cup leader board. South Africa, England are co are level with Bangladesh, but have a game in hand. Hooha.

Some super quotes there from Sehwag, speaks like he bats doesn't he! Right then, the World Cup is up and away .. We have a double header tomorrow. NZ v Kenya and Sri Lanka v Canada. Join us for both. On your way out, follow your team in the World Cup and get the latest news pushed straight to your Facebook wall. Click here for more. On behalf of Sid R, Raghav and Sanjay, this is Nitin Sundar signing off. Cheers!
Presentations time.
Sehwag is the Man of the Match: "It was a good start for the team, I have said this is a revenge game and we have won. I have said before Bangladesh are not good in Tests, but they can compete in ODIs, but today they could not. I was looking to bat long, maybe get a 100 in 30 overs and then go on. Special thanks to my physio for helping me, I was carrying a couple of injuries and they got me ready for this game. Well, the team - everyone did well, other than Sreesanth ... "
Dhoni: "Fielding department, we will need to contribute some more. While fielding, we will want to save around ten runs.. When you have lost a couple of wickets, you need to stabilise, and it was nice to see Sehwag and Kohli do that. As a team we fight injuries, so it is good to have a long break before the next game."
Shakib: "I think we bowled too many boundary balls and that cost us the game. Sehwag took it away, he played really well. Our fast bowlers were a bit rusty, hopefully they will come back well."
Sehwag has, as expected, been named as the Man of the Match. Munaf: "We have won, so very happy. Just focused on line and length, some slower balls in the slot, and I am working on my fitness." Even he can't hide a smile when he says, "My fitness is very good." ha!
Sharma (Ishant?): "I had Munaf Patel in my fantasy team. Until 8 hours before the match, when I decided Yuvraj Singh might be a better choice. Patel has 4 wickets and good economy, and Yuvraj has a catch. I don't like myself too much right now." Someone writes in saying Ian Chappell has Munaf, Sehwag, Tamim, Kohli and Shakib in his team. I wonder if he's leading the world right now.
GG: "M'Nuf Said!" Haha!
