Sri Lanka 165/2   JM Davison 1-0-10-0

31.1

Davison to Sangakkara, 1 run, on Sanga's pads and he flicks straight to square leg. Hang on, we have a third umpire referral as the stumps are broken as Mahela makes his ground. A direct hit would have had him, but he had a vital extra second before Bagai could gather and whip the bails off.

31.2

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, tossed up and turning into the pads, Mahela gently works it through midwicket for one

31.3

Davison to Sangakkara, no run, Sanga chips out, Davison holds it back and beats him in the flight. Sanga adjusts and defends

31.4

Davison to Sangakkara, 1 run, turn again from off stump, Sanga feels for it as he guides it square for one

31.5

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, fuller on off stump, Mahela reaches out and works it with the spin through midwicket

31.6

Davison to Sangakkara, 2 runs, Sanga works against the spin and nurdles a single through square on the leg side. They are building up nicely for the end overs

Sri Lanka 182/2   JM Davison 2-0-16-0

33.1

Davison to Jayawardene, 2 runs, Mahela is unstoppable now. Dainty little dab through third man for two as Davison turns one in from wide of off stump. Mahela hangs back, waits for it to reach Bagai's gloves, almost, before opening the wrists and coaxing it away.

33.2

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, straighter this time, Mahela moves inside the line and turns it square for one more

33.3

Davison to Sangakkara, 1 run, third umpire asked for and Sangakkara might be in trouble. Or not. Davison was confident as the throw came in from cover-point. But Sanga made his ground by half a foot. He reached out and steered it square, and always had the single under control

33.4

Davison to Jayawardene, no run, Mahela looks for another flick to midwicket, but can't find the gap this time

33.5

33.5

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, Mahela steps across and works across the pads through wide mid on for single

33.6

Davison to Sangakkara, 1 run, ends with one on Sanga's pads and he pushes it square with soft hands. Still, can only pick a single

Sri Lanka 196/2   JM Davison 3-0-23-0

35.1

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, extra turn from off and middle, but Mahela has no issues with it as he gets the front foot across and works it square

35.2

Davison to Sangakkara, 2 runs, Sanga skips out and deliberately over wide mid on for a couple. He's in that zone now, and he will toy with this attack all the way to the end.

35.3

Davison to Sangakkara, 1 run, flatter and quicker, forces Sanga back and he works it through midwicket for one

35.4

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, on Mahela's pads, he will nudge those singles through the leg side all day if he has to

35.5

Davison to Sangakkara, 1 run, flighted on middle and Sanga advances to reach the pitch and on-drive for a single

35.6

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, short ball, Mahela latches on in a flash and rolls the wrists over a controlled pull. There is protection in the deep so he is restricted to a single

Sri Lanka 215/2   JM Davison 4-0-30-0

37.1

Davison to Sangakkara, 1 run, offie outside off, Sanga waits and taps towards point for one

37.2

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, flighted on off, Mahela gets inside the line and works it through midwicket for one more

37.3

Davison to Sangakkara, 1 run, Sanga again chips over the infield, and short of the men in deep, intentionally. Tossed up, he skips out and dinks it straight over mid off for a couple

37.4

Davison to Jayawardene, 2 runs, short and wide outside off, Mahela focuses on placement rather than power as he deflects it into the gap through point for a couple

Sri Lanka 236/2   JM Davison 5-0-37-0

39.1

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, Mahela chips Davison with the spin over mid on but short of long on for a single

39.2

Davison to Sangakkara, 1 run, Sanga does it now, lofting him without the intention of clearing the fielders in the deep. Another single down the ground

39.3

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, three on the trot, this is more golf than cricket. Mahela tees off for a single down the ground now

39.4

Davison to Sangakkara, no run, Sanga looks to sweep and misses out

39.5

Davison to Sangakkara, 1 run, Davison keeps it flat and straight, Sanga punches on the up through wide mid on for another single

39.6

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, over-pitched on the pads, Mahela gladly uses the extra pace and sweeps it towards deep backward square leg for a single

Sri Lanka 247/2   JM Davison 6-0-42-0

41.1

Davison to Jayawardene, FOUR, and now bad fielding in the deep. This is not the easiest outfield to manage, and Sri Lankak born Ruvindu Gunasekara doesn't do it too well. Tossed up and turning in, Mahela goes down on a knee and slog sweeps. Ruvindu rubs back and looks to cover the angle, but lets it through as he tumbles.

41.2

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, again Mahela goes leg sidish as it turns in from outside off. Over to Sanga

41.3

Davison to Sangakkara, 3 runs, and now an outside edge that doesn't go to hand. Davison gets some extra turn and beats Sanga's flashing drive, the edge flies very fine and slows up in the outfield

41.4

Davison to Jayawardene, 2 runs, and now he drops short, too many bad balls. Mahela waits and cuts dextrously into the gap at deep point for a couple

41.5

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, works it off the pads this time for a single to wide mid on

41.6

Davison to Sangakkara, OUT, Sangakkara has not made a 100 since the 2008 Asia Cup. The wait continues. He pops a gentle return catch as Davison slows it up and gets it to turn a bit. Sanga did not get entirely forward, he was possibly trying to chip it in the air as he's done all day. He did, but could not clear the bowler. He knows he has missed an easy 100 today. It went off the bottom of the bat, he possibly should have come more forward to drive.

Sri Lanka 267/3   JM Davison 7-0-53-1

43.1

Davison to Perera, no run, Thisara nearly spoons a catch to short cover. Tossed up on off, he reaches out and drives without getting to the pitch. Almost straight to the fielder

43.2

Davison to Perera, no run, holds it back again, Thisara plays down the ground back to the bowler

43.3

Davison to Perera, 1 run, Thisara turns it over, smears a full ball through mid on for a single. Mahela on 99...

43.4

Davison to Jayawardene, 1 run, Mahela breaks the record, well played. He leans out and works it with the spin through midwicket - typifies his entire innings, this shot.

43.5

Davison to Perera, 1 run, Perera gets another single down the ground

43.6

Davison to Jayawardene, OUT, Well, Mahela was tiring, it did seem he was going to throw caution to the winds once he reached 100. He gets across the line and looks to lap sweep over short fine leg. Makes good connection, but can't get it over the fielder. Ends up giving the fielder catching practice. Well played, Mahela.
