3.1

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, leans into the straight drive, but Perera gets a hand to it, the non-striker rushes back in to the crease

3.2

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, there is no stopping this one, Hafeez it is, who gets to the pitch of a length delivery and sends it purring wide of cover for a boundary, that was perfectly timed

3.3

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, goes much closer to the stumps, no room to drive, so he blocks in to the off side

3.4

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, 2 runs, goes still closer, this time to leg stump, and Hafeez happily whips it through square leg, the outfield is quick, but so is the fielder who runs in from fine leg to cut it off

3.5

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, driven past the bowler, MAthews at mid off is a bit wide, what;s more he slips as well as he runs to his right, and that made the single look a lot easier than it could have been

Pakistan 20/0   Mohammad Hafeez 7* (7b 1x4)

4.1

Kulasekara to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, lot of width outside off stump, and he eases in to a steer down to third man

4.5

Kulasekara to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, short of a length outside off, pushed towards extra cover

4.6

Kulasekara to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, that is so easy on the eye, it was played so delicately that it was a surprise that third man had no chance as he attempted to run to his right, there was width on offer, and he timed it deftly past point

Pakistan 28/0   Mohammad Hafeez 12* (10b 2x4)

5.5

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, now Hafeez shows signs of getting on with it, wonder why, they have just lost a wicket, looking to heave this one over midwicket, mistimes it towards mid on

5.6

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, oops, he had launched himself in to the drive, but the ball arrived a lot later than he thought it would, and he sort of tried to check his shot in the end, and ended up playing an awkward sort of push-drive to extra cover

Pakistan 31/1   Mohammad Hafeez 12* (12b 2x4)

6.2

Kulasekara to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, another one comes in, this time from outside off stump, excellent line, he gets forward and blocks

6.3

Kulasekara to Mohammad Hafeez, SIX, whoops, where did that come from, Kula has been getting it to come in, Hafeez trusted him, went down on a knee and lifted the incoming delivery in front of square leg, that goes all the way, what a shot

6.4

Kulasekara to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, and another one, this one was outside off stump, but Hafeez used the wrists even more this time to pick it backward of square leg for a boundary, just went outside the line, and forced the ball with the wrists

6.5

Kulasekara to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, fuller, almost in the blockhole, he digs it out towards mid on

6.6

Kulasekara to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, cuts down the pace, the batsman was already coming forward, and had to be content with a defensive push in the end

Pakistan 42/1   Mohammad Hafeez 22* (17b 3x4 1x6)

8.5

Kulasekara to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, the runs continue to flow, this time a steered single to third man, there has been a lot of width gifted to Pakistan today

9.2

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, opens the face to guide a length ball to point

9.3

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, lovely delivery, back of a length outside off, moving away, and making him feel for the ball, unlucky not to get the edge

9.4

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, well, nothing much wrong with this one, it was on the off stump, a touch straight, but it was the batsman who created the shot, walking across the stumps, and lifting it backward of square, all wrists

9.5

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, better delviery, cannot do much with it, on a length and defended into the off side

9.6

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, 2 runs, too straight again, now he flicks in the air, in the huge spaces at midwicket, not much presence on the leg side for Sri Lanka, and a comfortable couple is taken

Pakistan 65/1   Mohammad Hafeez 29* (24b 4x4 1x6)

10.6

Mathews to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, gets well forward eagerly to meet the ball outside off stump, and pushes out to extra cover

11.4

Kulasekara to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, back of a length from Kula, he goes back to push it to him, some respite for the bowler

11.5

Pakistan 73/1   Mohammad Hafeez 30* (27b 4x4 1x6)

12.1

Mathews to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, slower one eased down to long on for one

12.3

Mathews to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, just a push, but a well-timed push, took two men to stop that, Mahela dived first but could not, extra cover had to tidy up in the end

12.4

Mathews to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, flicked in the air through midwicket, doesn;t matter if there is no one in that area

Pakistan 76/1   Mohammad Hafeez 32* (30b 4x4 1x6)

13.1

Muralitharan to Mohammad Hafeez, OUT, oh dear, is anyone out, who is out, what is happening, it was full on leg stump and swept to short fine leg, there was a terrible mix-up, Kamran ran all the way to Hafeez who did not move an inch, the throw came in to Sanga, there were two batsman there, so he threw to Murali, who would have had to be eight feet tall to take the wayward throw, but the ball was in the end relayed to Murali, Hafeez thought of running to Murali's end just for a fleeting moment, abandoned such foolish thoughts, and Murali finally got the bails off, it is Hafeez who has to walk back finally

Mohammad Hafeez run out 32 (63m 31b 4x4 1x6) SR: 103.22

Pakistan 76/2   Mohammad Hafeez 32 (31b 4x4 1x6)
