ICC Cricket World Cup - 10th match, Group A

Sri Lanka v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 11 runs

1.1

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, fuller length compared to Kula, better carry too, but the line is in that channel outside off like Kula, and the batsman lets it go

1.2

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, 1 wide, Perera sprays one very wide outside off stump, got some movement but that started about four feet from the batsman outside off

1.2

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, FOUR, goes for the booming drive, it is pitched fuller, and takes the outside edge on its way fine to the third man boundary

1.3

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, 2 runs, gets some width outside off stump, and goes hard at it, and the ball races away wide of third man

1.4

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, 1 run, better line from Perera, fuller on the stumps, and he gets the bat around pad to flick it wide of mid on

1.5

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, gets him to drove with a fullish ball that is around off stump, it takes the outer half of the bat to go towards point

1.6

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, gets forward neatly to the pitch of this length delivery, and drives it confidently to mid off

Pakistan 13/0   NLTC Perera 1-0-8-0

3.1

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, leans into the straight drive, but Perera gets a hand to it, the non-striker rushes back in to the crease

3.2

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, there is no stopping this one, Hafeez it is, who gets to the pitch of a length delivery and sends it purring wide of cover for a boundary, that was perfectly timed

3.3

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, goes much closer to the stumps, no room to drive, so he blocks in to the off side

3.4

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, 2 runs, goes still closer, this time to leg stump, and Hafeez happily whips it through square leg, the outfield is quick, but so is the fielder who runs in from fine leg to cut it off

3.5

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, driven past the bowler, MAthews at mid off is a bit wide, what;s more he slips as well as he runs to his right, and that made the single look a lot easier than it could have been

3.6

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, played out in to the covers off the front foot

Pakistan 20/0   NLTC Perera 2-0-15-0

5.1

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, just on a length, not quite there for the drive, he pushes forward and the ball rolls away to mid off

5.2

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, goes for an ambitious pull, there is a huge gap at midwicket, but the ball was not short at all, and the ball rolls away off the bottom edge to the man in front of square leg

5.3

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, OUT, got 'em! Shehzad had shown signs of impatience the previous delivery, and this time he was lured into a drive outside off stump, it was pitched on a length, and moved away slightly to produce the fatal edge, bounced a lot more than usual too, and Sanga doesn't let go of those

Ahmed Shehzad c †Sangakkara b Perera 13 (24m 23b 2x4 0x6) SR: 56.52

5.4

Perera to Kamran Akmal, 3 runs, Kamran is off the blocks right away, leans languidly, almost casually in to a length ball outside off that sends it through covers

5.5

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, now Hafeez shows signs of getting on with it, wonder why, they have just lost a wicket, looking to heave this one over midwicket, mistimes it towards mid on

5.6

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, oops, he had launched himself in to the drive, but the ball arrived a lot later than he thought it would, and he sort of tried to check his shot in the end, and ended up playing an awkward sort of push-drive to extra cover

Pakistan 31/1   NLTC Perera 3-0-18-1

7.1

Perera to Kamran Akmal, no run, gets just a hint of inward movement way outside off stump, he gets an inside edge as he plays away from the body, the ball rolls away towards square leg

7.2

Perera to Kamran Akmal, no run, almost the perfect forward defensive, picked up the length, saw it wasn't there for the drive, and came out to block it with a straight bat

7.3

Perera to Kamran Akmal, FOUR, Kamran goes calypso, shuffles across a bit, picks up a length ball from outside off and flicks it over square leg, one foot in the air as he does so

7.4

Perera to Kamran Akmal, no run, gets an underedge as he looks to steer this one outside off towards third man

7.5

Perera to Kamran Akmal, no run, plays out this one on the stumps towards mid on off the back foot

7.6

Perera to Kamran Akmal, 1 run, he manages to lure another batsman forward, not fatal for Kamran this time, it was also because he went almost half-heartedly at this length delivery that was miles outside off and the outside edge bounced well short of third man

Pakistan 47/1   NLTC Perera 4-0-23-1

9.1

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, played out off the front foot in to the covers

9.2

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, opens the face to guide a length ball to point

9.3

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, lovely delivery, back of a length outside off, moving away, and making him feel for the ball, unlucky not to get the edge

9.4

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, well, nothing much wrong with this one, it was on the off stump, a touch straight, but it was the batsman who created the shot, walking across the stumps, and lifting it backward of square, all wrists

9.5

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, better delviery, cannot do much with it, on a length and defended into the off side

9.6

Perera to Mohammad Hafeez, 2 runs, too straight again, now he flicks in the air, in the huge spaces at midwicket, not much presence on the leg side for Sri Lanka, and a comfortable couple is taken

Pakistan 65/1   NLTC Perera 5-0-29-1

33.1

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, bangs it in back of a length, stays back and steers it through the off side

33.2

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, fuller this time, but no movement yet, Misbah reaches forward and defends into the covers

33.3

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, 1 run, driven solidly down the ground for one to long on. A hint of inward tail for Thisara, but not enough to trouble Misbah, obdurate as a rock at the moment.

33.4

Perera to Younis Khan, no run, back of a length outside Younis' off stump, he defends into the covers

33.5

Perera to Younis Khan, FOUR, not the first time Thisara has speared one down the leg side, and Younis is in too good form to let that go. An air of inevitability to it, the moment it left Thisara's hands. Younis was always inside the line, he was always going to whip it and he ensured the wrists turned well enough to beat the man at deep square leg.

33.6

Perera to Younis Khan, 1 run, Younis punches the last ball solidly down the ground. Pakistan hold all the aces going into the second drinks break.

Pakistan 170/3   NLTC Perera 6-0-35-1

35.1

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, dead straight on middle, from short of a length, he pushes it out to point with an open face, but that's about it

35.2

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, 1 run, positive from Misbah, gets a wide one and slashes it away down to third man

35.3

Perera to Younis Khan, no run, another one bang on middle stump, Younis goes behind it and plays it down softly on the leg side

35.4

Perera to Younis Khan, no run, Thisara gets one to bounce extra, and Younis rides it to cut it away to point, without any sort of power too

35.5

Perera to Younis Khan, 1 run, now he gets some room outside off, and it is too short, punched away to sweeper cover off the back foot

35.6

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, 1 run, run out missed, Misbah had done the one-step dance before the ball came, but it was on target near the blockhole, he nevertheless got it towards midwicket, Younis was slow to get off, and if the throw had hit, he would have been running back to the pavilion

Pakistan 177/3   NLTC Perera 7-0-38-1

47.1

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, FOUR, starts off with a full toss, and Misbah shuffles across the stumps, and flicks it past square leg, can Pakistan make good use of the final powerplay over?

47.2

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, 1 run, gets one in the blockhole, he charges down he track, and bunts it down to long on

47.3

Perera to Shahid Afridi, FOUR, Afridi gets one that is a touch short, and launches it away up and over extra cover, it was a slower one, he stayed in the crease, and bashed it over the in field

47.4

Perera to Shahid Afridi, no run, if that had connected, if Afridi had connected with that one, they would have had to find a new ball, he threw everything at this full delivery , but could not connect

47.5

Perera to Shahid Afridi, FOUR, biff, it was in the blockhole, but makes no difference to Afridi, he goes down on a knee and hammers it through extra cover, violence, useful violence

47.6

Perera to Shahid Afridi, 2 runs, another full one, this time he goes straight down the ground, it flew off the bat, but some brilliant fielding near the ropes saves a couple

Pakistan 260/5   NLTC Perera 8-0-53-1

49.1

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, 1 leg bye, goes for the scoop over fine leg from outside off, gets an edge that scoots away towards third man

49.2

Perera to Abdul Razzaq, 2 runs, gets a full delivery, goes down on a knee and carves it wide of long off

49.3

Perera to Abdul Razzaq, 1 wide, sprays it very wide of off stump, this time it is called one

49.3

Perera to Abdul Razzaq, 1 run, the yorker arrives now, outside off stump, and he digs it out in to the off side

49.4

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, FOUR, Misbah, you beauty, moves outside off stump, and flicks a full delivery off his toes, and wide of square leg, calm and calculated hitting

49.5

Perera to Misbah-ul-Haq, 1 run, stays in the crease, and biffs a full ball down to long on

49.6

Perera to Abdul Razzaq, OUT, high full toss, Razzaq had to go for maximum, and did so, but his swing produced a top edge that swirled high in the air and settled in the hands of extra cover, Sri Lanka will feel that they have restrained a Pakistan line-up that threatened to gallop away, but couldn't quite do so

Abdul Razzaq c sub (CK Kapugedera) b Perera 3 (6m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 75.00
