ICC Cricket World Cup - 17th match, Group A

Canada v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 46 runs

Hello there. It's a hot day and it's a huge stadium. The boundary ropes seem far away from the center pitch. They are saying 60% chance of thunderstorms. Hope they stay away.

Pitch report Ian Chappell: "The curators says its a dry pitch. There wouldn't be much side-ways movement. The grass is brown; not too much moisture around. Team wins toss would like to bat."

Mohammad Hafeez: "We want to win every game. We are not taking any team easy. We were looking forward to win that game (against Sri Lanka). They are a tough opponent, especially at their home, and it gave us great confidence to us to beat them. I have been doing an allrounder role. Whenver captain throws me the ball, I try my level best to perform well."

Toss: Pakistan have chosen to bat.

Afridi: "It's a good wicket and in the second innings the ball may stay low and turn. Saeed Ajmal and Wahab Riaz are in." Rehman and Shoaib get a rest.

Ashish Bagai: "We also would have batted first. We got couple of openers; young guys, 16 and 19. There has been a bit of shuffle."

Aged 16 and 19?! Whoa!

Hussain: "A 16 year old in the Canadian team!! Doesn't that come under child labor!"

Qasim Anwar: "Im a Pakistani born living in Canada for 12 years now i duno who to cheer for :(" After last night, surely the underdogs?!

Khurram: "this match is very important for Gul to get his rhythm back as he is not balling yorkers since a while....hope waqar worked out with him...beside Hafeez should get his touch back with Ahmed Shahzad..."

Amir Rana: "Abdul Razzaq's wish should be fulfilled in this match. He Should be at 4 today.Finger's crossed..!!"

Ali Hussain: "it's always nice when the underdog does well - but as long as it isn't against Pakistan! :)"

Khizar: "hoping to see some inventive thinking from pak today. probably last stage for experimentation. Would like to see razzaq get up the order and blast a few. maybe take power play early like india and ireland."

Mahmood: "Should be a great match, But, what is the minimum age to play at this Level of cricket? In canada you are not even allowed to drive a car at 16" You are allowed to drive only on a cricket field.

The anthems are done. Game set to begin very soon.

Abdullah: "I'm a huge supporter of the underrated old Abdul Razzaq, one of Pakistan's less acknowledged players, but there's a very good reason he shouldn't bat at No 4 and that's because he struggles v spin...however he should switch spots with Afridi as he is a far more consistent hitter with 5-8 overs to go. I also think people underrate his quietly effective bowling...it's not as eye-catching as Gul or Akhtar, but without an effective new-ball partner for Akhtar it gets a decent job done."

Shafaqat Ali: "@Qasim. Cheer for cricket mate, it won't bring any headache either. "

Osinde to Mohammad Hafeez, OUT, Given out and Hafeez goes for UDRS. LBW. It landed on a good length outside off stump and moved in to hit the pad above the knee roll in front of leg and middle stump. The height was in question. And would it have hit the leg stump? Hawk eye says it would have clipped the top of the leg stump. And that has been given out.

The Canadian skipper, who is also the keeper, seems to be in some bother here. Dunno what happened. His foot is being taped up. Looks like he twisted his ankle while celebrating that dismissal. He leaped up and was enveloped in a bear hug by his bowler and as he landed back to earth, he seems to have twisted his foot.

8.6

Baidwan to Younis Khan, 1 run, full in length, cutting away from the off, run down to third man

Sulaiman: "what happens if there is someone that is good at spin bowling and fast bowling which one do they choose or can they do both?" Both. Garry Sobers the legend did it. Australia's Colin Miller, though a mediumpacer, did it as well

Kashif Muneer: "I have belief in Ahmed Shehzad's long term future for Pakistan cricket but he has not adapted to sub-continent conditions after a successful NZ tour. I think it time that Kamran Akmal opens with Hafeez and Asad Shafiq is introduced at number 3. Shehzad needs to find form in the nets. It would make Pakistan middle order even stronger as Shafiq has almost always done well given a chance." What about Hafeez's off spin? He is bowling so many overs each game

Baidwan to Kamran Akmal, no run, stays back to defend to the point region

Shafaqat Ali: "I am sure Pakistan bowling can defend even 150 against Canada but Batsmen have to do well against such an attack. I think attack is the best form of defence and they have to go out all attacking to get things under control. Sending Razzaq ahead of Misbah might have been the solution to current shaby situation"

15.1

Umair Farooq: "What is the point of asking: What about Hafeez's off spin? Kashif Muneer suggested to replace Shehzad not Hafeez. Oh wait, you mean if Hafeez opens with Kamran Akmal that would make him lose total trust in Akmal and he'll refuse to bowl on seeing him behind the wickets? Lol" Ha ha! Rofl! Apologies for the slip-up. I am turning blind.

40.5

Rizwan Cheema to Shahid Afridi, OUT, dear me, Afridi has given it away, not for the first time, not for the last, it was a wayward full toss wide outside off stump, Afridi reached out and went swinging wildly at it, and the chance was happily swallowed at backward point, Canada are delighted

Hansra to Wahab Riaz, OUT, Balaji it is at slip, and he has somehow managed to hold on to this outside edge, between his legs, it was there for the drive, he went for the drive, the edge flew to Balaji who grabbed at it twice, but it was destined to settle between his thighs as he went down, remember Tariq Iqbal, the Kenya keeper 'catching' Brian Lara in the 1996 World Cup, it was that kind of 'catch'

Anees: "We need to remove the word "order" from the Pak batting order." Ouch. But they do have a bowling 'attack' to be proud of

Mohammad: "A defeat by Canda will only do good to Paksitan. They need to get out of the complacency they appeared to have gone into."

The last four wickets have gone for three runs, three. Pakistan have been done in by a Canada attack that utilised the overcast conditions perfectly. Baidwan leads the way with three wickets.
