ICC Cricket World Cup - 23rd match, Group A

Canada v Kenya

Canada won by 5 wickets (with 27 balls remaining)

Right, Canada are playing their trump card early. Rizwan Cheema is set to open the innings. Ruvindu Gunasekara accompanies him. Evergreen Odoyo has the ball. One slip in place.

Right, Abhishek has moved over to the chat module, leaving commentary duties to me. A few minutes to go before the start, enough time to catch up with Andy Zaltzman's latest delights. Checked out our Bracket Predictor game yet? Do it now, as the league stage of the World Cup hots up.

0.1

Odoyo to Gunasekera, 1 run, length ball angling across at 127 kph to begin with, pushed off the front foot towards mid off for one

0.2

Odoyo to Rizwan Cheema, no run, Odoyo has got an lbw appeal upheld by Umpire Doctrove. Is Cheema gone first ball? He's refering it. Bustling inducker, lands outside off and nips in nicely. Cheema is only half forward and it would be dead plumb if it hits the pads first ... but it doesn't. Huge inside edge on that, Cheema had a smile when he reviewed it. He knew he was safe.

0.3

Odoyo to Rizwan Cheema, no run, another one back of a length and coming in, Cheema doesn't quite move the feet anywhere as he sets himself up for a booming drive. Ends up defending to the off side

Short cover in place.

0.4

Odoyo to Rizwan Cheema, 2 runs, there's an unidentified flying object over the Delhi skies. No wait, that's a cricket ball. Odoyo delivers a juicy slower ball on the driving length, Cheema gets under it and sky-rockets it into orbit. Mid off runs back, but can't get there by the time the ball begins its descent to our planet.

0.5

Odoyo to Rizwan Cheema, FOUR, Cheema is going for them here. Another length ball outside off, Cheema gets under it and hoicks free-spiritedly over cover point. It lands safe and trickles over the ropes

0.6

Odoyo to Rizwan Cheema, no run, Cheema ain't waiting for no one. Another length ball, comes in and cramps him for the shot but he goes for the swivel swipe through the leg side. Edges it onto the pads.

End of over 1 (7 runs) Canada 7/0 (192 runs required from 49 overs, RR: 7.00, RRR: 3.91)

Elijah comes on now.

1.1

Otieno to Gunasekera, no run, driving length ball angling across Ruvindu who drives straight to short cover

1.2

Otieno to Gunasekera, no run, even fuller outside off, Ruvindu forces the drive past the short cover fielder, but doesn't get a single

1.3

Otieno to Gunasekera, no run, he's timing these cover drives alright, but needs the placement. Driven crisply but straight to short cover

1.4

Otieno to Gunasekera, no run, thrown wider outside off at 134 kph, Ruvindu slashes at it with a half strut forward, and misses

1.5

Otieno to Gunasekera, no run, short of a length this time, Ruvindu gets the full face of the blade on it and drives to mid off

1.6

Otieno to Gunasekera, 1 no ball, spoils a potential maiden by over-stepping off the last ball. Back of a length and played back to the bowler. Ruvindu will wind up now for a big swing.

1.6

Otieno to Gunasekera, no run, goes for the short ball outside off, Ruvindu was fooled by the length and missed his late attempt to pull though the body balance was going forward.

End of over 2 (1 run) Canada 8/0 (191 runs required from 48 overs, RR: 4.00, RRR: 3.97)
R Gunasekera    1* (8b)      E Otieno    1-0-1-0
Rizwan Cheema    6* (5b 1x4)      TM Odoyo    1-0-7-0

2.1

Odoyo to Rizwan Cheema, no run, back of a length, menacing feet movement from Cheema, looks like he wants to paste it through the off side, but ends up defending

2.2

Odoyo to Rizwan Cheema, no run, slower ball, comes off the back of the hand and befuddles Cheema who is looking to bang the pull shot to the leg side. He gets a bottom edge, on the bounce to the keeper

Short fine leg in place.

2.3

Odoyo to Rizwan Cheema, no run, Odoyo keeps the line very tight, angling into Cheema from short of driving length and Cheema can't do much with it. He forces it back down the track

Mark Savoie: "Hi, I'm a Canadian living in Korea with English, Kiwi and Aussie friends who are all following the tournament. I am too, since Canada is there, even though I know that today's match is the only one in which we are likely to even be competitive. I don't just watch the Canadian debacles, but many of the other matches as well. In 2015, once the minnows are gone, so will my interest, and I won't be watching. Is that the result the Cricket World Cup is looking for?"

2.4

Odoyo to Rizwan Cheema, 1 run, this time he manages to punch into the covers for a single.

2.5

Odoyo to Gunasekera, no run, over-pitched outside off, Ruvindu has played several shots outside the off stump without getting any returns. Another swing, another miss.

2.6

Odoyo to Gunasekera, no run, good delivery, after angling several across him, Odoyo gets one to hold its line and finish on middle and off, Ruvindu plants the front foot across and defends into the covers

End of over 3 (1 run) Canada 9/0 (190 runs required from 47 overs, RR: 3.00, RRR: 4.04)
R Gunasekera    1* (10b)      TM Odoyo    2-0-8-0
Rizwan Cheema    7* (9b 1x4)      E Otieno    1-0-1-0

3.1

Otieno to Rizwan Cheema, SIX, drop-kicked out of the field. Cheema flexes his muscle with a strong swing over midwicket. Elijah plays into his hands by delivering a length ball coming in with the angle. Cheema helps it along, with interest. Powerful swing that.

3.2

Otieno to Rizwan Cheema, FOUR, Elijah is losing the script here. Now he drops short, which is not a bad idea, but he also strays into Cheema's body. His natural stance already has him inside the line and he merrily pulls it finer than short fine leg for four more.

3.3

Otieno to Rizwan Cheema, no run, slower ball, 121 kph, Cheema was planning to send this away through the leg side as well, but seeing it was coming slow he decided to spare it.

3.4

Otieno to Rizwan Cheema, OUT, Elijah has struck. He runs around in glee, pumps his fist and then pulls up his tee shirt to cover his mouth! Some celebration that. Cheema was looking to blast everything out of his presence, and one of them has found its way past him. Short ball, not there for the drive. Not quite there for the pull. Cheema was on the front foot again and went for an ungainly heave across the line. Miss. Leg stump splatters. Elijah is delighted.

Rizwan Cheema b Otieno 17 (18m 13b 2x4 1x6) SR: 130.76

Surkari walks in. Normal service should resume now that Cheema is gone.

3.5

Otieno to Surkari, no run, back of the hand loopy slower one first up, Surkari gropes outside off and can't get bat on it

3.6

Otieno to Surkari, no run, angles in towards the pads from wide of the crease, Surkari solidly defends down the track

End of over 4 (10 runs) Canada 19/1 (180 runs required from 46 overs, RR: 4.75, RRR: 3.91)

4.1

Odoyo to Gunasekera, no run, folater angling across Ruvindu who defends off the front foot into the leg side

Ananthamurthy: "@Mark Savoie: No friend; Hopefully, by that time the minnows will have turned into, well, if not into whales, at least into something competitive. I myself, am Indian, living in India, and I follow matches of all sorts of teams, in all sorts of competitions. A great game, where losing REALLY doesn't matter."

4.2

Odoyo to Gunasekera, 1 run, Ruvindu again plants the front foot across and check drives between short cover and the bowler, for a single to mid off.

4.3

Odoyo to Surkari, no run, 126.8 kph, Surkari pushes down the track and outside the line but Odoyo keeps this back of a length and forces the defensive shot

4.4

Odoyo to Surkari, 2 runs, Odoyo drifts onto the pads and Surkari is away with a neat defelction through square leg for one

4.5

Odoyo to Surkari, no run, back of a length again to the right hander, he reaches across to defend to the off side

4.6

Odoyo to Surkari, 1 run, on the pads to end the over, a needless throw from Waters hits the stumps and allows a single. It was flicked straight to him at midwicket. Free runs, flowing like waters.

End of over 5 (4 runs) Canada 23/1 (176 runs required from 45 overs, RR: 4.60, RRR: 3.91)
ZE Surkari    3* (6b)      TM Odoyo    3-0-12-0
R Gunasekera    2* (12b)      E Otieno    2-0-11-1

5.1

Otieno to Surkari, no run, Elijah is up in appeal again, as he gets an inducker to ping Surkari high on the front pad. Too much doubt there - height, line, and a possible inside egde too.

5.2

Otieno to Surkari, no run, this one swerves even more prodigiously into the pads, and Surkari misses the flick.

5.3

Otieno to Surkari, no run, redirects this one around off stump, at 130 kph, and Surkari defends off the front foot into the covers

5.4

Otieno to Surkari, no run, shortens the length further and hits Surkari's bat close to the splice as he plays forward instead of back.

5.5

Otieno to Surkari, no run, even better appeal, Surkari is well down the pitch this time as he tries to work it across the line. Kenya have decided to review the lbw appeal that was turned down. Back of a length, and as always coming in sharply. Surkari is at least two feet out of the crease as he tries to turn it around, across the line to the leg side. Hits in line with off, and the dodgy prediction (since this is over 2.5m) says this is hitting middle and leg. Over to the on-field umpire, and Asad Rauf retains his original call.

5.6

Otieno to Surkari, 1 run, ends with another delivery bending in, fuller length and it is pushed from the crease to mid on for a single

End of over 6 (1 run) Canada 24/1 (175 runs required from 44 overs, RR: 4.00, RRR: 3.97)

6.1

Odoyo to Surkari, no run, back of a length from Odoyo, lands outside off and comes in slightly. Surkari gets outside the line and defends to the off side

6.2

Odoyo to Surkari, no run, legcutter, stays a touch low as it comes through at 120 kph, Surkari manages to defend

6.3

Odoyo to Surkari, no run, aha, Surkari jumps out and looks for the drive through the off side, but the ball sneaks past the bat and pad gap, outside off and through to the keeper

The keeper comes up to the stumps.

6.4

Odoyo to Surkari, no run, tight line, on middle and off, Surkari stays in the crease and covers the line well

6.5

Odoyo to Surkari, no run, another back of the hand legcutter, ends up outside off and is steered backward of point. Can't get a single.

6.6

Odoyo to Surkari, no run, again, Odoyo is needling away here with some tight lines, Surkari defends off the front foot to the off side

End of over 7 (maiden) Canada 24/1 (175 runs required from 43 overs, RR: 3.42, RRR: 4.06)
ZE Surkari    4* (18b)      TM Odoyo    4-1-12-0
R Gunasekera    2* (12b)      E Otieno    3-0-12-1

7.1

Otieno to Gunasekera, 1 run, Ruvindu looks quite edgy outside off stump, this time he tries to play for the one that straightens even as Elijah gets one to angle across and ends up outside-edging backward of point

7.2

Otieno to Surkari, 1 run, comes in from outside off stump, Surkari taps to the leg side for a single

7.3

Otieno to Gunasekera, no run, Kotla, oh Kotla. Another one stays low as it goes through outside off stump. Ruvindu, as always swipes hard and misses.

7.4

Otieno to Gunasekera, no run, another perfectly flowing cover drive from Ruvindu. When he times them, they find the fielder. This time, he pings cover.

7.5

Otieno to Gunasekera, no run, another one slides across the bat's face, Ruvindu keeps feeling for them outside off. This one misses the dge closely

7.6

Otieno to Gunasekera, FOUR, Ruvindu breaks free with a pleasing drive down the ground. That was punched on the up as Elijah cramped him for room on off stump, Ruvindu just took a half step forward and met it on the rise. Crisp and comprehensive.

End of over 8 (6 runs) Canada 30/1 (169 runs required from 42 overs, RR: 3.75, RRR: 4.02)
R Gunasekera    7* (17b 1x4)      E Otieno    4-0-18-1
ZE Surkari    5* (19b)      TM Odoyo    4-1-12-0

8.1

Odoyo to Surkari, no run, slower ball outside off, Surkari is early on the drive and gets an inside edge onto the leg side.

8.2

Odoyo to Surkari, no run, again, Odoyo is keeping it very tight. On the middle stump, Surkari again mistimes the drive and finds mid on

8.3

Odoyo to Surkari, 1 run, hint of width outside off this time, and Ruvindu steers fluently through backward point for a single

Dara: "Watching the associate nations take on the Test playing teams reminds me of the movie 'Lagaan'. The underdogs win hearts, and may even win matches every now and again; but eventually, they are a motley crew of amateurs (with the exception of Irish and Dutch players, presumably) who will not consistently produce quality cricket."

8.4

Odoyo to Gunasekera, no run, over-pitched outside off, Ruvindu can't get under it and drives without power to mid off. He went at it hard without moving the feet across.

8.5

Odoyo to Gunasekera, 1 run, good work from Kamande at mid off. Over-pitched outside off, Ruvindu times the off drive well and Kamande hurries to his left and slides to save the boundary.

8.6

Odoyo to Surkari, FOUR, Surkari plays the shot of the innings. Marginally short, but he seemed to pick the length even before Odoyo was in his delivery stride. Hangs back in the crease, hooks the left knee and pulls emphatically through midwicket for four

End of over 9 (6 runs) Canada 36/1 (163 runs required from 41 overs, RR: 4.00, RRR: 3.97)
ZE Surkari    10* (23b 1x4)      TM Odoyo    5-1-18-0

9.1

Otieno to Gunasekera, no run, bustling across the batsman, Ruvindu works it from off stump to the leg side

9.2

Otieno to Gunasekera, 1 run, Ruvindu continues to swing hard outside off, he doesn't get his feet across, and gets an inside edge through backward square leg.

9.3

Otieno to Surkari, no run, over-pitched on off stump, worked with the angle to mid on

9.4

Otieno to Surkari, no run, again sharp anmgle comes into the right hander who pushes it to mid on with a straight bat

In otherwords, Mr. Fergus, the prediction is dodgy :-)

Fergus: "The predictive element of Hawkeye is not 'dodgy' over 2.5 metres as your commentator states. The variance on the prediction increases so the margin of error has to be larger that is all. If it shows the ball hitting middle and leg then it is almost certainly still hitting. The ICC have given in to the mathematical ignorance of the players, BCCI and umpires (and commentators by the sound of it!) with this daft cop out. It is quite easy for the software to incorporate a larger margin of error and still give an accurate result. Regards a frustrated physicist who is embarassed by the inability of the cricket community to get it's head around this!!"

9.5

Otieno to Surkari, OUT, This could be curtains for Surkari. The difference between these teams could be the fielding. Kamande is the man on the move again, and he's hit the stumps down at the bowler's end. Similar ball, comes in with the angle, and Surkari bunts to the leg side and takes off. Kamande prowls in quickly, picks up on the move and has a shy at the bowler's end. Surkari was half a foot short.

Bagai the banker walks out. Canada in strife.

9.6

Otieno to Gunasekera, FOUR, Ruvindu smacks one through the off side, and for a change he makes good connection. Over-pitched outside off, he reached across to the pitch of it and creams it through the covers.

Odhiambo comes on now. His hairdo reminds be of Douglas Hondo. Remember him?

10.1

Odhiambo to Bagai, 1 run, back of a length outside off and another one that stays low. Bagai looks to cut and gets a nervy bottom edge. Close to the stumps ..

10.2

Odhiambo to Gunasekera, no run, how lucky is that? Ruvindu was days early on the flick, and got a leading edge that popped straight up over Odhiambo's head and landed near the stumps at the non-striker's end. Mid on and Mid off charged in, but the ball had long since landed.

10.3

Odhiambo to Gunasekera, no run, gets behind the line this time and defends down the track

10.4

Odhiambo to Gunasekera, FOUR, lovely timing from Ruvindu. He's walked inside the line to a length ball on middle and leg and whipped it gracefully through midwicket. Smooth as whipped cream. Smooth as this simile was initially intended to be.

10.5

Odhiambo to Gunasekera, no run, Odhiambo drops a quintessential tracer bullet. Length ball on the middle and leg stump, Ruvindu drills it straight back, and Odhiambo did well to ensure none of his bones cracked, as he fended the ball away from him.

10.6

Odhiambo to Gunasekera, 1 run, length ball again, on off stump and punched to mid off for a single

Jamal: "Am an engineer and completely agree with Fergus's comment about the mathematical ignorance of the players. Fergus's explanation is correct and rather than tweaking the rule the players should be educated about it."

Jamal, Ferg - at the end of the day, the system is not a 100% accurate in making predictions. Teach and train players all you want, you will still get people getting rough reviews.

Ngoche comes on. The one who is playing today. He's done a Mark Waugh. Replacing his brother in the team.

11.1

Ngoche to Gunasekera, 1 wide, OUT, This is Bizarroworld. Ruvindu might be out stumped. Shambles from Ruvindu. Shambles from Ouma. Shambles all round. Stupidity, says Ian Chappell. It slips down the leg side. Ruvindu misses the flick. And looks back. He can't see the ball. He thinks it has trickled away to fine leg. Ouma, cunningly, hid the ball in his left glove. Once Ruvindu strayed out of the crease, Ouma looked to flick the bails off. And missed! He then flicked again. This time he hits the stumps. Ruvindu is still not in! Haven't seen something so bizarre from a batsmen since Inzamam tumbled onto his stumps, attempting to sweep Panesar.

11.1

Ngoche to Hansra, no run, tossed up on middle and off, worked with the spin to mid on

11.2

Ngoche to Hansra, no run, Hansra just told Waters, "Mate you just caught the wooden spoon". Tossed up generously outside off, Hansra inexplicably looks to bang it down the ground. He doesn't time it at all, and it is a dolly to mid on. Waters drops it. In and out.

11.3

Ngoche to Hansra, no run

11.4

Ngoche to Hansra, FOUR, Hansra is away, solid punch through point for four. Had this under control, but Ngoche helped by dropping short

11.5

Ngoche to Hansra, no run, this one turns in sharply, Hansra works it to the leg side

11.6

Ngoche to Hansra, FOUR, Hansra makes solid connection to another flighted ball outside off, gets under it, goes on a knee and launches it almost all the way over long off

12.2

Odhiambo to Bagai, no run, this one stays low on middle and off, Bagai gets behind the line and keeps it out.

Thanks Nitin. Both teams giving each other favours, through Gunasekera and Waters. siddharth: "The stumping of Ngoche's first ball reminded me a little (w.r.t. the keeper's cunningness) of Alec Stewart's stumping of Brian Lara in Sharjah in Dec 1997. Of course, Stewart hadn't fumbled the ball or missed his intended flick on the stumps. Ngoche to Bagai, 1 run, armer on the stumps, Bagai carefully deflects to the leg side for one

39.4

Ngoche to Hansra, 1 run, Hansra moves to the leg side, but this one turns in again, and gets his inside edge to the leg side for one

39.5

Ngoche to Bagai, 1 run, straying down the pads, whipped through square leg for a single

39.6

Ngoche to Hansra, no run, backs away again, and manufactures enough room to dink a single into the covers

End of over 40 (3 runs) Canada 165/3 (34 runs required from 60 balls, RR: 4.12, RRR: 3.40)
AS Hansra    61* (93b 5x4 2x6)      JO Ngoche    9-1-26-1
A Bagai    49* (82b 4x4)      NN Odhiambo    7-0-24-0

40.1

Odhiambo to Bagai, FOUR, Bagai has 50. Calm innings under pressure, and he's set up a famous win for his side. Chips inside the line of a full ball on the pads and clips it to the right of mid on for four.

40.2

Odhiambo to Bagai, no run, he plays back to a length delivery and defends compactly to the bowler. Hmm, Hansra was backing up a long way and there may have been a run out if the bowler threw

40.3

Odhiambo to Bagai, no run, back of a length on off stump, defended with an angled face to the off side

40.4

Odhiambo to Bagai, 1 run, Canada let another chance go. Elijah throws to the wrong end. Bagai plays straight to mid off and takes off, Hansra was never decisive and was always in trouble. The throw went to the bowler's end though, and Bagai got there easy.

40.5

Odhiambo to Hansra, no run, and a drop now. Odhiambo has put down his second return chance of the day and just like the previous one, this barely qualifies as a spill. Hansra thumped the length ball, on the up, straight at him. Odhiambo got his hands in place, but it did not stay in.

40.6

Odhiambo to Hansra, FOUR, whumped. Slower ball at 106 kph, lands in the slot and Hansra dispatches it with a very well-timed pick up loft over long on. It lands on the boundary skirting, another inch in front and it was six.

End of over 41 (9 runs) Canada 174/3 (25 runs required from 54 balls, RR: 4.24, RRR: 2.77)
AS Hansra    65* (95b 6x4 2x6)      NN Odhiambo    8-0-33-0
A Bagai    54* (86b 5x4)      JO Ngoche    9-1-26-1

41.1

Ngoche to Bagai, no run, tossed up outside off, and is driven against the spin into the covers

41.2

Ngoche to Bagai, no run, tossed up outside off again, Bagai drives fluently to long off for one

41.3

Ngoche to Bagai, no run, back of a length, punched without timing to mid on. The bowler tries to get across, and comically runs into the non-striker.

41.4

Ngoche to Bagai, no run, tossed up again outside off, driven quietly down the track

41.5

Ngoche to Bagai, no run, drifts onto middle and leg, worked to the leg side for no run

41.6

Ngoche to Bagai, no run, this one turns in sharply, Bagai covers the line and defends with the spin to square leg

End of over 42 (maiden) Canada 174/3 (25 runs required from 48 balls, RR: 4.14, RRR: 3.12)
A Bagai    54* (92b 5x4)      JO Ngoche    10-2-26-1
AS Hansra    65* (95b 6x4 2x6)      NN Odhiambo    8-0-33-0

Batting Powerplay taken now by Canada.

42.1

Odhiambo to Hansra, 1 run, Odhiambo lands one on the pads and Hansra clips to to mid on.

Hansra is apparently a construction engineer. The banker and the engineer are doing pretty well out there.

42.2

Odhiambo to Bagai, 1 run, again on leg stump, Bagai clips through midwicket for another single

42.3

Odhiambo to Hansra, no run, drifts into the pads, thrice in three balls, Hansra works it straight to midwicket

42.4

Odhiambo to Hansra, FOUR, Hansra continues in his merry ways. He jumps out of the crease, opening up the off side for the carve, and Odhiambo helped with a full delivery outside off. Hansra just scythed with a flourish over point

42.5

Odhiambo to Hansra, OUT, after 70 impressive runs, Hansra is caught at mid on. There's no Waters there now to drop him. Ngoche holds on. Back of a length ball on off stump, certainly not there for the drive, but Hansra just goes through with the aerial on-drive. Doesn't middle it though, and it goes straight to Ngoche.

AS Hansra c Ngoche b Odhiambo 70 (121m 99b 7x4 2x6) SR: 70.70

Rajat: "For God's sake, can anyone tell me why am I still following this match on cricinfo?"

Tyson is the new man in. Twist in the tail? 19 needed off 43. Another wicket here will set the cat among the maple leaves.

42.6

Odhiambo to Gordon, no run, a yorker down the leg side, wasted and nearly wided. It hit the batsman's pad on the way and is hence not called a wide

End of over 43 (6 runs) Canada 180/4 (19 runs required from 42 balls, RR: 4.18, RRR: 2.71)
TG Gordon    0* (1b)      NN Odhiambo    9-0-39-1
A Bagai    55* (93b 5x4)      JO Ngoche    10-2-26-1

Elijah comes back on. Last throw of the die.

43.1

Otieno to Bagai, 1 run, full and on the pads, as always Bagai clips through midwicket for one more

43.2

Otieno to Gordon, no run, whoa, Tyson feels lazily at a ball angled across him. Some noise as it went through, it was of the bat hitting the pad.

43.3

Otieno to Gordon, no run, wider outside off, Tyson lets it go through to the keeper

43.4

Otieno to Gordon, 1 wide, Elijah knows just how far he can go before being called a wide. The previous ball was wider than the one before. This one is even wider, and is called.

Round the wicket with a wide in place.

43.4

Otieno to Gordon, 1 wide, more exercise for Umpire Rauf as Elijah lands this a metre outside off.

43.4

Otieno to Gordon, no run, yorker a foot outside off, Tyson looks to steer to the off side, but can't get bat on ball

43.5

Otieno to Gordon, no run, finally gets one to dip in towards the batsman, who defends into the off side

43.6

Otieno to Gordon, 1 run, the entire gamuts of line in that over, this one slips down the leg side and is glanced to fine leg for one.

End of over 44 (4 runs) Canada 184/4 (15 runs required from 36 balls, RR: 4.18, RRR: 2.50)
TG Gordon    1* (6b)      E Otieno    8-0-36-1
A Bagai    56* (94b 5x4)      NN Odhiambo    9-0-39-1

Vijay: "@Rajat who is following the game. Why did the chicken cross the road? Because it was interesting."

44.1

Odhiambo to Gordon, no run, full ball on the stumps, played solidly back at the bowler who has a needless shy at thr stumps at the batting end. Frustration, clearly.

44.2

Odhiambo to Gordon, 2 runs, Tyson angles the face and steers a full ball very fine. Third man does well to keep it down to two

44.3

Odhiambo to Gordon, no run, short ball, not much lift from the deck as Tyson ducks disconcertingly

44.4

Odhiambo to Gordon, no run, the Kotla is not going to bounce much any more. Banged in short, this one scoots along and Tyson ends up looking a little out of his depth as he aborts the decision to duck and ends up getting hit on the glove, which is just above the upper flap of the pad.

44.5

Odhiambo to Gordon, OUT, Aha, Kenya are down, but not yet out. Odhiambo has bowled Tyson round the legs. He delivers it full and on leg stump from over the wicket, Tyson shuffles too far across in search of the tickle to fine leg and misses. Leg stump is hit, Odhiambo is thrilled.

TG Gordon b Odhiambo 3 (12m 11b 0x4 0x6) SR: 27.27

Mahesh: "Why did the Skeleton Cross the Road? To go to the Body Shop!"

Davison walks out. This could end quickly.

44.6

Odhiambo to Davison, FOUR, Odhiambo delivers a friendly full delivery outside off, Davison reaches out and cracks it through the covers. Crisp and clean.

End of over 45 (6 runs) Canada 190/5 (9 runs required from 30 balls, RR: 4.22, RRR: 1.80)
JM Davison    4* (1b 1x4)      NN Odhiambo    10-0-45-2
A Bagai    56* (94b 5x4)      E Otieno    8-0-36-1

45.1

Otieno to Bagai, FOUR, and another four, Canada get even closer as Elijah sprays another one on the pads. Bagai must be excited in anticipation of a famous win, he helps this along to fine leg for four

45.2

Otieno to Bagai, no run, short of a length on off stump, forced off the back foot towards point

45.3

Otieno to Bagai, 1 wide, that's just how wrong the slower ball can go. Slips out, literally walks down the 22 yards, and ends up two metres down the leg side, and Bagai can't even get close to it with the attempt at the pull

45.3

Otieno to Bagai, FOUR, Canada have doubled their number of wins in World Cups. Bagai has played a top innings here, and fittingly ends it all with a thumped carve over the off side. That shot underlines just how much better Canada have been better today, from the time Osinde picked those early wickets.

Osinde's award pulls one back for the bowlers - so far the adjudicators have been massively biased towards the batsmen! Right then, that ends the coverage for today. In case you missed the action, here is Sid Ravi's bulletin. On behalf of Abhishek and the rest of the team, this is Nitin Sundar signing off. Ciao and keep reading ESPNcricinfo!

Osinde is MoM. "I was a bit surprised by the swing. In November we came to India and saw how the pitches played, so we knew what to expect."

Bagai: (The Delhi crowd cheers the 'home' boy) "Osinde did a fantastic job first up. We were disappointed with the show in the last few games, but today Jimmy hung around with me. We were fortunate not to have run-rate pressure. Once you were in, you could rotate the strike. In the end it was just about milking them around. Glad we won this and got it under our belt."

Kamande: "We started very badly, but after the recovery, 220 looked possible and that would have been defendable. Osinde bowled brilliantly .. Mishra got out at the wrong time. When you are defending 200, you need to keep trying for wickets. Did not work today, but there were some things to learn."

Bagai and Davison look relieved and happy. These two have been around long enough to know how much this matters for Canada. Their World Cup trip might be full of thumping defeats at the hands of the better sides, but they have accomplished something. They won't return empty-handed.
