ICC Cricket World Cup - 36th match, Group B

England v West Indies

England won by 18 runs

Right then. Kemar Roach has the new ball, Andrew Strauss has the strike. Two slips in place... Play!

2.30pm Few questions about the pitch conditions. Haven't seen it myself to be honest, but expect turn, reverse swing, that sort of thing. Anyway, we'll find out in a minute because the umpires are out, followed by the West Indies and now the England openers. Meanwhile, all of you wanting to see your own beloved opinions on screen can join the Chatterbox about the game

2.20pm Few West Indies flags dotted about, plenty of Bangladesh fans might be supporting them too. Chris Gayle is utterly unmoved by the national anthem, Sammy, on the other hand is belting it out. England are imploring divine intervention to save their queen, probably not necessary at this stage. Their World Cup campaign on the other hand...

2.10pm If anyone managed to predict either of those teams than I suggest they get on our Fantasy Cricket competition. Andrew Strauss, meanwhile, has just held what looks to be a very stern team meeting. Presumably to explain just how Luke Wright is going to win them the match. He managed to keep a straight face throughout, which is impressive.

2.00pm England have won the toss and will bat. Tremlett in for Anderson, Tredwell for Shahzad and Wright for Collingwood, it's all true. Apart from the Wright opening bit, Prior will share the duty with Strauss. West Indies, meanwhile, have Chris Gayle back in place of Shivnarine Chanderpaul and legspinner Devendra Bishoo makes his ODI debut, in place of Nikita Miller. Phew. I'm already breathless and a ball hasn't been bowled yet. Darren Sammy is smiling widely despite losing his fifth toss in a row.

1.50pm There are all kinds of rumours circulating Twitter. Soon to be confirmed but murmurs that Luke Wright could play, and open the batting! James Tredwell might play too. Paul Collingwood probably won't and Ajmal Shahzad is out not with a tummy-bug but a hamstring injury. Goodness. Andrew Miller will have a bulletin out soon confirming and fair to say even he, in his excellent preview, didn't expect Wright to play.

1.40pm Morning/afternoon all. We've had this in 1996, Ian Austin in 1999, being bowled out by Ashish Nehra, Ashish Nehra in 2003 and Fredalo in 2007. The tour de farce that is England World Cup campaigns could have a latest entry if they lose today against the West Indies. England's tournament might well be over even if they win. After five classic finishes out of five, the tournament would be poorer without England but they face a resurgent West Indies side who have won three games on the bounce.

0.1

Roach to Strauss, no run, short and wide outside off stump and it carries through nicely to Thomas. Strauss is relieved to flag one through early

0.2

Roach to Strauss, no run, good carry again here outside off, closer to Strauss this time as he left alone

0.3

Roach to Strauss, no run, back of a length on off stump this time, slowly raises through to Strauss who places a bat in the way

0.4

Roach to Strauss, no run, for dot balls in a row as Strauss lets another one go

0.5

Roach to Strauss, no run, full for the first time today, Roach has a very good yorker, pushed with a toe-end to mid-off

0.6

Roach to Strauss, no run, and the over ends as it begun, with Strauss leaving alone. Good start for West Indies then

End of over 1 (maiden) England 0/0 (RR: 0.00)
AJ Strauss    0* (6b)      KAJ Roach    1-1-0-0
MJ Prior    0* (0b)

Pace of Roach at one end and the towering, combative left-arm spin of Sulieman Benn from the other. Expect plenty of chat. And accuracy, he's an excellent bowler. Slip in place...

1.1

Benn to Prior, no run, tossed up around off stump, Prior eases into defence

1.2

Benn to Prior, no run, hint of turn already and Prior is cagey in defence again, England are pinned down already

1.3

Benn to Prior, no run, ooh, this finds an edge as Prior tries to drive, squirts to point

1.4

Benn to Prior, FOUR, runs! Finally it's runs. Four of them. The outfield is quicker than Roach! Prior leant into a fluid drive and once it beat cover it was always four

1.5

Benn to Prior, no run, good recovery from Benn, just did Prior in the flight a touch and he lunged forward to block

1.6

Benn to Prior, no run, another careful, tentative prod to finish the over. So just one scoring shot in 12 deliveries

End of over 2 (4 runs) England 4/0 (RR: 2.00)
MJ Prior    4* (6b 1x4)      SJ Benn    1-0-4-0
AJ Strauss    0* (6b)      KAJ Roach    1-1-0-0

2.1

Roach to Strauss, no run, that's very close to cut but Strauss is strong on the shot. Unfortunately for him he remains on 0 after picking out point

2.2

Roach to Strauss, 1 run, close! Nervy moment for Strauss as he is rushed on a pull shot, trying to break the shackles but got it high on the bat and spooned it just over a backpedalling square leg

2.3

Roach to Prior, 1 run, precious run again, more certain than the last, as Prior clips to midwicket where Benn fields and makes a hash of the relay through by dropping the ball

2.4

Roach to Strauss, 1 run, finally a more certain shot for Strauss as he glances into space

2.5

Roach to Prior, no run, Roach is wearing his fastest wheels here, already touching 90mph. Good length and off-stump line and Prior stands tall to block

2.6

Roach to Prior, no run, fuller to finish, Prior is hanging back expecting another shot one. Pats to cover. Decent pace and carry in the pitch so far

End of over 3 (3 runs) England 7/0 (RR: 2.33)
MJ Prior    5* (9b 1x4)      KAJ Roach    2-1-3-0
AJ Strauss    2* (9b)      SJ Benn    1-0-4-0

3.1

Benn to Strauss, no run, slip and a leg slip for Benn. Finds turn here back into Strauss who defends

3.2

Benn to Strauss, 1 run, carefully swept down to deep square to give Prior the strike

3.3

Benn to Prior, no run, touch of spin here again and Prior leans forward to defend

3.4

Benn to Prior, FOUR, nicely done from Prior, leaning back and getting the fraction of width outside off he thrives on. Threaded wide of point and it sped to the rope

3.5

Benn to Prior, no run, firmly pushed back towards the bowler, Benn gets down 26ft to field

3.6

Benn to Prior, 2 runs, too short from Benn and it allows Prior to cut again, more careful shot this time and earns him a couple. Good over for England, they needed it

Just a quick world, Ajmal Shahzad is out for the rest of the tournament. So might his team-mates by the end of the day.

End of over 4 (7 runs) England 14/0 (RR: 3.50)
MJ Prior    11* (13b 2x4)      SJ Benn    2-0-11-0
AJ Strauss    3* (11b)      KAJ Roach    2-1-3-0

4.1

Roach to Strauss, no run, Roach is generating plenty from his whippy action and it's rushing Strauss in defence

4.2

Roach to Strauss, no run, fuller and the drive is woefully timed and dribbles to mid-off

4.3

Roach to Strauss, no run, Strauss is just trying to manufacture something here, giving himself a touch of room to drive. But at the moment Roach's pace is rushing him

4.4

Roach to Strauss, FOUR, ah, Strauss gets all of this! Half-volley length and banished wide of cover

4.5

Roach to Strauss, no run, Roach pulls back his length and Strauss can only defend as a result

4.6

Roach to Strauss, no run, stylish drive but bashed straight to mid-off

End of over 5 (4 runs) England 18/0 (RR: 3.60)
AJ Strauss    7* (17b 1x4)      KAJ Roach    3-1-7-0
MJ Prior    11* (13b 2x4)      SJ Benn    2-0-11-0

5.1

Benn to Prior, 1 run, Prior has shown good composure so far, not trying to overhit anything. Pushes down to long-off

5.2

Benn to Strauss, 1 run, Strauss hurtles down the wicket, steady as drunk, shaping to hack before pushing a nervy defence

5.3

Benn to Prior, 2 runs, neatly done by Prior once more, leaning forward to drive a fullish ball down the ground

5.4

Benn to Prior, no run, that's the first one that really has spun, surprised Prior who poked at it suspiciously

5.5

Benn to Prior, FOUR, full toss is punished! Carefully again but that makes it a decent start for England. Clipped around the corner and Benn looks unimpressed

5.6

Benn to Prior, 1 run, driven down the ground to finish a good over for England. Prior going well but this pitch, so far at least, looks very good for batting

End of over 6 (9 runs) England 27/0 (RR: 4.50)
MJ Prior    19* (18b 3x4)      SJ Benn    3-0-20-0
AJ Strauss    8* (18b 1x4)      KAJ Roach    3-1-7-0

6.1

Roach to Prior, 1 run, back of length but the line is just leg-sided enough for Prior to nurdle a single to fine leg

6.2

Roach to Strauss, no run, on the pads to Strauss, which Miller reckons is a no-go area, but Strauss picks out square leg

6.3

Roach to Strauss, FOUR, very nicely done here from the England captain. Couple of steps down the track and, as Miller would tell you, Strauss is violent off his pad, flicking to the midwicket boundary

6.4

Roach to Strauss, no run, again Roach ventures near the pads but Strauss picks out midwicket

6.5

Roach to Strauss, no run, heave and miss outside off! Strauss leant back and aimed something expansive, but only at thin air

6.6

Roach to Strauss, 1 run, after all that heaving Strauss is back to compact mode, flicking an off-stump delivery wide of midwicket

End of over 7 (6 runs) England 33/0 (RR: 4.71)
AJ Strauss    13* (23b 2x4)      KAJ Roach    4-1-13-0
MJ Prior    20* (19b 3x4)      SJ Benn    3-0-20-0

Time for a change, Benn is out and Andre Russell is in.

7.1

Russell to Strauss, no run, ooh nervous start from the bowler, touch short and some width too but Strauss can't time his cut shot

7.2

Russell to Strauss, 2 runs, short again and Strauss wants a tilt at Russell I reckon, wheeling a pull shot to deep midwicket

7.3

Russell to Strauss, no run, yup, Strauss definitely wants a bit of this. Dancing down the wicket again to try and thwack this through the off side. Doesn't time it remotely

7.4

Russell to Strauss, no run, my my, Russell is not impressed and bangs in a sharp bouncer that has Strauss ducking in a hurry. Follows the delivery with a stare

7.5

Russell to Strauss, FOUR, no no, short is not the place for Strauss. He gets all of this pull shot and it speeds to the fine leg rope

7.6

Russell to Strauss, 1 run, another short one, Russell needs to find a way to calm into this contest, Strauss powers another pull shot but the sweeper tides up on the leg-side boundary

End of over 8 (7 runs) England 40/0 (RR: 5.00)
AJ Strauss    20* (29b 3x4)      AD Russell    1-0-7-0
MJ Prior    20* (19b 3x4)      KAJ Roach    4-1-13-0

With one captain trying to wrestle control the other, Darren Sammy, has brought himself into the attack to wrestle it back. Thomas up to the stumps.

8.1

Sammy to Strauss, no run, steady start from Sammy, that's what he's all about and Strauss has no pace to work with

8.2

Sammy to Strauss, SIX, short to Strauss at Sammy's pace won't end well for the bowler. Leans back and eases his arms through the ball, pings over the midwicket boundary and into the fence. Top shot!

8.3

Sammy to Strauss, no run, good change of pace in response, much slower, but fuller too and Strauss can't connect

8.4

Sammy to Strauss, no run, another cutter and Strauss, despite flicking his wrists at the ball, can't force it away

8.5

Sammy to Strauss, 1 run, width combined with no slip means Strauss can happily guide this through the vacant area for a gimme single

8.6

Sammy to Prior, 1 run, sharp single to finish the over, Prior clipped to mid-on and immediately hared off for one. But for the one short ball that was a good over from Sammy, sadly the short one went for six

End of over 9 (8 runs) England 48/0 (RR: 5.33)
MJ Prior    21* (20b 3x4)      DJG Sammy    1-0-8-0
AJ Strauss    27* (34b 3x4 1x6)      AD Russell    1-0-7-0

9.1

Russell to Prior, OUT, Russell strikes! Emphatically! Full and sliding into Prior is exactly the place to bowl to him. He was hanging on the back foot and the ball had burst through and splattered middle stump before he'd even thought about defence

MJ Prior b Russell 21 (36m 21b 3x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

Well that evens things up. Russell rewarded for venturing full and Jonathan Trott is the new man. He'll be batting inbetween marking his guard.

9.2

Russell to Trott, FOUR, looks a good start but yeesh, lucky he hit this! Full and picked off the pads, would have been a huge lbw appeal had he missed but as it was Trott is away in a hurry

9.3

Russell to Trott, no run, this is a better delivery, around off stump and Trott pops forward to defend

9.4

Russell to Trott, FOUR, too short and Trott, the much maligned Trott, has his second boundary. Up on one leg and flipping a pull shot behind a square for four

9.5

Russell to Trott, no run, much fuller and squeezed away in defence

9.6

Russell to Trott, FOUR, ah, coos throughout the Cricinfo desk here as Trott languidly leans into an off drive. Barely touched it but it raced away

Decent start then to this and here is Gnasher to tell you more.

End of over 10 (12 runs) England 60/1 (RR: 6.00)
IJL Trott    12* (5b 3x4)      AD Russell    2-0-19-1
AJ Strauss    27* (34b 3x4 1x6)      DJG Sammy    1-0-8-0

Thanks Sahil, fine start by Trott

10.1

Sammy to Strauss, no run, around the wicket, tucked into the leg side

10.2

Sammy to Strauss, 2 runs, hint of width and he cuts it away through point but there's a sweeper on the cover boundary

10.3

Sammy to Strauss, 1 run, back of a length, opens the face and guides to third man

10.4

Sammy to Trott, 2 runs, too much on leg stump, neatly flicked away to deep square

10.5

Sammy to Trott, FOUR, wide outside off this time, Trott places it between cover and backward point for his fourth boundary

10.6

Sammy to Trott, FOUR, and another, this time he comes onto the front foot and drives a half volley through the covers. Superb stuff from Trott, but West Indies have lost their lines

End of over 11 (13 runs) England 73/1 (RR: 6.63)
IJL Trott    22* (8b 5x4)      DJG Sammy    2-0-21-0
AJ Strauss    30* (37b 3x4 1x6)      AD Russell    2-0-19-1

11.1

Russell to Strauss, 1 run, now Strauss drives strongly through the covers but it goes straight to the sweeper

Certainly a very different surface to the one for the England-South Africa match

11.2

Russell to Trott, FOUR, drifting towards the pads and, yep, that's another boundary for the flying Trott as he whips it elegantly through midwicket

Russell has been all over the shop since he took Prior's wicket

11.3

Russell to Trott, no run, that's better, banged in back of a length and Trott goes onto the back foot to defend

11.4

Russell to Trott, 1 run, more runs through the leg side, but this time it's just a single to deep square

11.5

Russell to Strauss, OUT, gone! Russell strikes again, the short ball gets Strauss. He went for the pull but got a top edge and Gayle make excellent ground running back from midwicket, taking the catch over his shoulder then holding on as he hit the deck

AJ Strauss c Gayle b Russell 31 (50m 39b 3x4 1x6) SR: 79.48

Ian Bell, who has played every match of England's winter, is in at No. 4 but the batsmen crossed

11.6

Russell to Trott, no run, another one comes off the middle of Trott's bat although finds mid-off

End of over 12 (6 runs) England 79/2 (RR: 6.58)
IJL Trott    27* (12b 6x4)      AD Russell    3-0-25-2
IR Bell    0* (0b)      DJG Sammy    2-0-21-0

12.5

Benn to Bell, 1 run, opens the face into the off side, well judged single by the Warwickshire team-mates

12.6

Benn to Trott, 1 run, on the back foot, pushed into the covers and this single is a little tighter but a fumble makes it comfortable

End of over 13 (6 runs) England 85/2 (RR: 6.53)
IJL Trott    30* (15b 6x4)      SJ Benn    4-0-26-0
IR Bell    3* (3b)      AD Russell    3-0-25-2

13.1

Russell to Trott, no run, full on off stump, Trott comes forward and drives to mid-on

13.4

Russell to Bell, 1 run, banged in short, Bell rocks back and pulls it with a roll of the wrists to long leg

13.6

Russell to Bell, no run, full outside, driven firmly to Gayle at short cover

End of over 14 (3 runs) England 88/2 (RR: 6.28)

IJL Trott    32* (18b 6x4)      SJ Benn    4-0-26-0

14.1

End of over 15 (6 runs) England 94/2 (RR: 6.26)
IR Bell    5* (10b)      SJ Benn    5-0-32-0
IJL Trott    37* (20b 7x4)      AD Russell    4-0-28-2

England's ODI gameplan usually reverts to er... Morgan will win it. And on a good track he might well have to.

22.4

Pollard to Morgan, no run, ooh, bit of a nothing fiddle sort of shot attempted and it beats the outside edge

22.5

Pollard to Morgan, 1 run, this just sticks in the pitch a touch which made Morgan's wristy flip around the corner rather risky

22.6

Pollard to Bell, no run, goodness, Gayle has flung himself across the turf to field. Moved so swiftly! Maybe he just wanted a quick lie down

End of over 23 (2 runs) England 123/3 (RR: 5.34)

Does Bishoo have a googly I wonder? Could be useful to Morgan, spinning away. There is a slip in place for it.

23.1

Bishoo to Morgan, 1 run, Morgan eases a single down the ground. Sammy has set the field deep so it's a help-yourself shot

23.2

Bishoo to Bell, 1 run, poor delivery, probably his worst of the day, shot and wide but Bell's dragged a pull shot from outside off just for a single

23.3

Bishoo to Morgan, 1 run, another single for Morgan knocked around the corner

23.4

Bishoo to Bell, 1 run, plenty of air on this which meant Bell, who had got down on one knee very early, had to wait a long time to dab around the corner

23.5

Bishoo to Morgan, no run, ooh, Morgan on the reverse-whack very early, the extra spin defeated him though and it spun into his pad

23.6

Bishoo to Morgan, 1 run, wow, this really does turn, from a shortish length admittedly but always good to see a legspinner. Rashid, oh Rashid. Anyway, Morgan helps it on its way to fine leg

End of over 24 (5 runs) England 128/3 (RR: 5.33)

24.1

Pollard to Morgan, 1 run, Pollard has barely bowled a full ball this innings, Morgan sits on the back foot here and chops some width to deep cover

24.2

Pollard to Bell, 1 run, short again, outside off again, would have been a wide if Bell left it, as it was he reached for it and toe-ended a single to deep cover

24.3

Pollard to Morgan, 1 run, Morgan exchanges singles with Bell by dabbing to third man

24.4

Pollard to Bell, no run, Bell missed out here, with third man up in the circle the width and length was easy to dab for four but Bell picked out the fielder. Rightly, he is very annoyed with himself

24.5

Pollard to Bell, no run, fuller, finally fuller. Bell taps back down the ground

24.6

Pollard to Bell, 1 wide, Pollard is unimpressed as this is given wide. It was short and outside off, Bell aimed a cut but couldn't reach it. First extra of the match that

24.6

Pollard to Bell, no run, another Bell dot ball as he prods to cover

End of over 25 (4 runs) England 132/3 (RR: 5.28)

25.1

Bishoo to Morgan, 1 run, touch short to Morgan, the sort of Steve Smith-like delivery Morgan was pulling to midwicket in Australia. No alarms this time though as he picks off a single

25.2

Bishoo to Bell, no run, ooh, touch of spin here beats a tentative defensive prod

25.3

Bishoo to Bell, no run, again Bell is slightly indecisive in defence

25.4

Bishoo to Bell, no run, ooh, Bell is down the track and outside leg, trying to make something happen here but he can't

25.5

Bishoo to Bell, 1 run, finally Bell rotates the strike, finding a gap at cover. Pressure is definitely building on him

25.6

Bishoo to Morgan, no run, Morgan gets forward and defence with textbook conventionality

Andy Zaltzman is tweeting almost as quickly as Trott scored his runs. You can follow him here. It's worth it.

Change of pace here, Roach is on. Bell might enjoy some pace on the ball.

26.1

Roach to Bell, OUT, haha, maybe not that much pace! Off stump is on its way to England! Fullish ball angling in, Bell was hanging back and the off stump was sent flying! England's campaign is tottering now, starts for all the England players but they're four down for not enough now. Ravi Bopara has a huge job to do. Can he prove his talent under pressure?

IR Bell b Roach 27 (58m 48b 1x4 0x6) SR: 56.25

26.2

Roach to Bopara, no run, ooh, Bopara is rushed here as well. Makes it seem like it didn't bounce as much as he expected. Luke Wright is in next! Cripes

26.3

Roach to Bopara, no run, more solidly behind this from Bopara. Leaning forward to block. Looks nervous at the moment though

26.4

Roach to Bopara, no run, more more decisive movement from Bopara into this. Stepping forward into a drive as Roach persists with a full length

26.5

Roach to Bopara, no run, full from Roach again, just too wide of off stump to interest Bopara

26.6

Roach to Bopara, no run, ooh, huge appeal here as Bopara is trapped in front. Will there be a review?... No. Perhaps a faint inside edge saved Bopara here. He was late getting forward and yes, big inside edge saved him

Roach looks mighty dangerous here. Aiming full, finding some reverse and plenty of pace.

27.1

Bishoo to Morgan, no run, looks like a slider or something here, definitely not a legspinner and Morgan defends

27.2

Bishoo to Morgan, OUT, oh no, that could be it! Bishoo has the key wicket! Tame end too, Morgan aiming a delicate reverse sweep, misses and brushes a glove through to Thomas who makes no mistake

EJG Morgan c †Thomas b Bishoo 7 (22m 13b 0x4 0x6) SR: 53.84

Right then Luke Wright, you haven't played in ages, go and save England's World Cup. From an excellent start England have slumped and it has all happened since the introduction of legspin. Nothing quite like the nostalgia of England collapsing to legspin!

Two slips in place for Wright...

27.3

Bishoo to Wright, no run, tossed up from Bishoo, finds some spin too and Wright very tentatively forward prods a defence

27.4

Bishoo to Wright, no run, wow! Spin and real bounce, looks very dangerous! Wright groped forward but it leapt past him

27.5

Bishoo to Wright, no run, Bishoo is landing grenades all of a sudden. Wright is making it look tough! This again spits off a length up to the gloves

27.6

Bishoo to Wright, 1 run, ooh, slashed in very Wright fashion to deep cover. Looked desperate but at least one of the England batsmen are off the mark. What an over from Bishoo! Long live legspin!

28.1

Roach to Wright, no run, wristspin one end, pace from the other. This is quality viewing! Wright hurries into a defence at off stump

28.2

Roach to Wright, no run, Wright sees a foot of width and aims an expansive slash. It was through him in a flash

28.3

Roach to Wright, no run, prodded away in defence. I wouldn't say it was solid but at least the bat was straight. Zipping through from Roach

28.4

Roach to Wright, no run, good-looking drive but the way England are going at the moment there looks about 20 fielders out there

28.5

Roach to Wright, (no ball) 1 run, no ball! Sweet relief for England. Wright managed to squeeze a single out to point so Bopara has the free hit to try and get himself off the mark

28.5

Roach to Bopara, 1 run, ooh, sign of things to come later in the innings perhaps. Roach spears in a reverse-swinging yorker that Bopara can get the slightest bit on inside edge on. Almost runs himself out but he's off the mark

28.6

Roach to Wright, no run, solid defence from Wright. You can't say that too often. Another excellent West Indies over

29.2

Bishoo to Bopara, no run, more languid here from Bopara leaning to drive to cover

29.3

Bishoo to Bopara, 1 run, clipped around the corner and Thomas, who is as loud as he is quick, hares off in pursuit

29.4

Bishoo to Wright, 1 run, Wright aims an old-fashioned slog-sweep, connects nicely for a single to deep midwicket

29.5

Bishoo to Bopara, no run, Bopara looks the faintest bit more confident now as he defends another big-spinning delivery

29.6

Bishoo to Bopara, no run, very short but Bopara can't time his cut shot

Thanks Sahil. Have England gone backwards since I was here last? Certainly feels like it. Been fun watching Bishoo and Roach in tandem, pace and leg spin. But it's time for a change, here's Andre Russell

30.1

Russell to Wright, no run, on off stump, pushed into the off side

30.2

Russell to Wright, no run, comes back into Wright who plays to the off side

30.3

Russell to Wright, 1 run, he'd have been gone with a direct hit! Wright chops into the off side, Gayle collects at cover, turns and throws at the non-striker's end. Batsman was well short

30.4

Russell to Bopara, no run, defended on the back foot

30.5

Russell to Bopara, 1 run, pushed down the ground, mid-off is quite deep and it's an easy single

30.6

Russell to Wright, 1 wide, banged in very short and called wide for height

30.6

Russell to Wright, 5 wides, oh dear, that's a shocker...fired down the leg side and beats the keeper

30.6

Slip in place

31.2

Benn to Wright, no run, fuller at middle and leg, pushed into the off side

31.3

Benn to Wright, 1 run, tossed up nicely, Wright onto the front foot and pushes into the covers

31.4

Benn to Bopara, 1 run, onto the back foot and placed wide of backward point

31.5

It's tempting to suggest the pilot starts fuelling his plane for the England team. But stranger things have happened. Haven't they? West Indies have been superb, apart from how they bowled at Trott

Now England have to just try and bat out 50 overs. James Tredwell the new batsman. Surprised he hasn't come out carrying a drink instead of a bat

32.3

Russell to Tredwell, no run, edged! But falls short of Gayle at slip as he opens the face and almost guides the ball

32.4

Russell to Tredwell, no run, beaten outside off as the ball angles across the left hander

32.5

Russell to Tredwell, no run, on the stumps, defended back to the bowler

34.2

Russell to Wright, FOUR, my goodness, a boundary! Offered some width and Wright frees his arms to drive in the air over backward point

34.3

Russell to Wright, 1 run, forced square along the ground this time out to the cover sweeper

34.4

Russell to Tredwell, 2 runs, width to the left hander on this occasion and Tredwell punches nicely through point to get off the mark

34.5

Russell to Tredwell, 1 run, back of a length on leg stump, worked out to the deep

34.6

Russell to Wright, no run, well, that was odd...Russell appeared to lose his run up but continued to deliver. Wright left a full ball outside off, the indicated he wasn't sure what happened. Anyway, it's over

39.2

Benn to Bresnan, no run, good work from Benn, no width on offer and Bresnan can only prod a defence

45.4

Benn to Bresnan, no run, full toss but Bresnan is too conventional to muscle this away, instead he straight-bats to mid-off

45.5

Benn to Bresnan, 1 run, poked towards midwicket, just a single

45.6

Benn to Swann, FOUR, good beans from Swann, backing himself to land this. Comes down the track, gives himself room, makes it into a full toss that he drives all along the ground wide of cover for four. Not a great spell for Benn that 0-60

End of over 46 (7 runs) England 228/8 (RR: 4.95)
GP Swann    7* (6b 1x4)      SJ Benn    10-0-56-0
TT Bresnan    10* (20b)      KAJ Roach    8-2-23-1

46.1

Roach to Bresnan, no run, Bresnan this time tries to give himself room, gets the full toss he wants but can't beat mid-off

46.2

Roach to Bresnan, 1 bye, high full toss, Bresnan thought it was above waist-height, it wasn't and he swing at fresh air brought nothing until the keeper fumbled

46.3

Roach to Swann, 1 run, Swann enjoys a full length and times this to deep midwicket

46.4

Roach to Bresnan, FOUR, edge! Precious edge for England. Full toss that Bresnan aims to heave at, kisses the edge and with third man up it was always four

46.5

Roach to Bresnan, no run, Roach's gameplan is simple, aim a yorker, Bresnan jumps leg side to try and power through cover but can't do it

46.6

Roach to Bresnan, FOUR, four more! It's that edge again! Roach is rapid and the thick edge hurtles past the keeper for four. England just finding a way to stay afloat in this tournament

End of over 47 (10 runs) England 238/8 (RR: 5.06)
TT Bresnan    18* (25b 2x4)      KAJ Roach    9-2-32-1
GP Swann    8* (7b 1x4)      SJ Benn    10-0-56-0

Hmm, dangerous move for West Indies. Russell brought in. He could clean up but could go for plenty.

47.1

Russell to Swann, OUT, have to give credit to captain and bowler, backed the wicket-taker and he's struck emphatically. Swann's stumps are a mess, full and straight, Swann jumped leg side to swish a drive but it was through him

GP Swann b Russell 8 (14m 8b 1x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

So here is Chris Tremlett. In the Powerplay.

47.2

Russell to Tremlett, 1 run, full and straight again but Tremlett somehow manages to pat down the ground. Hmm, not sure what to make of that. Russell pretended to pull out the delivery just before reaching the crease, before straightening up and landing his yorker. Trying to sell Tremlett a dummy. Smart thinking or against the infamous 'spirit of the game'?

47.3

Russell to Bresnan, 1 run, Bresnan looks like he really powers this, but the timing it so bad that it trickles away

47.4

Russell to Tremlett, no run, good lines and length from Russell, he's done superbly this over. Tremlett very cagey in defence

47.5

Russell to Tremlett, no run, again Tremlett is very cautious, standing perfectly still to prod a defence

47.6

Russell to Tremlett, 1 run, excellent over ends with Tremlett keeping the strike- pushing a single to mid-off

End of over 48 (3 runs) England 241/9 (RR: 5.02)
CT Tremlett    2* (4b)      AD Russell    8-0-49-4
TT Bresnan    19* (26b 2x4)      KAJ Roach    9-2-32-1

48.1

Roach to Tremlett, no run, banged in very short and this gets right up to Tremlett's ears, which is no bad effort

48.2

Roach to Tremlett, 1 run, that'll do nicely for England. Prodded to midwicket, Tremlett took a long time to get motoring but got through

48.3

Roach to Bresnan, 1 run, Roach hasn't quite landed the yorkers perfectly, but he hasn't been far off and Bresnan's attempted drive dribbles to cover. A misfield allows a single, suspect West Indies won't mind that

48.4

Roach to Tremlett, OUT, that'll be all. Good finish from Roach, banging in a short ball that gets Tremlett into a tangle, fends off with a glove that loops behind to Thomas to take

CT Tremlett c †Thomas b Roach 3 (6m 7b 0x4 0x6) SR: 42.85

West Indies need 244 to win. Well well, don't go far, looks like we have another classic on our hands. Could all come down to Gayle, if he gets off in a hurry 243 won't look enough. England started well here, capitulated in the middle, rallied at the end but West Indies will be favourites on a good batting track. Andrew Miller has more in his bulletin. We'll be back on 20mins or so, until then you can visit our Facebook page.
