ICC Cricket World Cup - 38th match, Group A

New Zealand v Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka won by 112 runs

Hamish: "As New Zealand are lacking Vettori and Mills, I think the key is bounce in the pitch. Oram, Bennett, and Southee are all tall men and need to use bounce to cramp (and dismiss) the SL top 4. Otherwise a 300+ score is on the cards." According to Doul, there will be some movement out there though of course neither captain agreed with that assessment. Much fun.

Ahdil: "Kandamby is in the mould of Samaraweera, he doesn't have the big hitting that Sri Lanka needs. They're just looking for someone who can provide quick runs. (lower down the order).

Dan: "NZ's campaign showing similarity to their Champions Trophy run, where they lost a player to injury every game. Lets hope they can go one better here."

Venkat: "I believe Kandamby is better than these two.. What happened to him?!"

Sukitha: "yes Kapugedara got a long run, but most of the time he came as no 6-7. I would say if he had come as no 4-5 he could have built his name." But sukitha, that's not the point na? There is no space in 4-5. Kapu or Silva will have to do well lower down. In this team, the question is who will fit better at lower down?

Nura: "Interesting that both the captains seem to disagree witht the pitch report!"

RW: "With regard to our good old coach Tom Moody's comments about the two Chamaras, I personally prefer Dinesh Chandimal over either of them." I saw his hundred against India in Zimbabwe. Looked a very good talent.

Ashker: "I agree with To as well.. Kapu is far more talented/Gifted stroke maker than silva..Having said that given the amount of opportunities he had he should`ve fired by now.. Lets hope he clicks and fires oneday and keeps firing.. All the best KAPU.."

Oliver: "More quality pitch insight from Simon Doull." Let's wait for the start to see how it plays.

Interesting stuff from Tom Moody, the former SL coach, at the studio.: "I prefer Kapugedera over Chamara Silva." Hmmm. . not sure how many Sri Lankan fans would agree with it. Kapugedera was given a long run and didn't seize his chances.

Toss: Kumar Sanga has chosen to bat. "It looks a bit soft, there will be spongy bounce and it will do more in the lights. we are playing Mendis as second spinner and Kulasekara, Malinga and Angelo as our fast bowlers."

Taylor: "I too would have batted first. It might spin a bit later on. Hamish Bennett comes in for Mills. It's always exciting to play a world cup game."

Pitch report by Simon Doul. "There is a grass cover and the ball will move around. I would expect the teams to chose bowl first here

Southee to Tharanga, 1 wide, Some movement all right. It seamed away from the stumps and veered down the leg side. Wide of course but it should be interesting if he can start it around the off stump line

Southee to Tharanga, 2 leg byes, again swinging towards the pads, McCullum goes flying to make a half-stop

0.2

Southee to Tharanga, no run, pushes this across the batsman, around the off, defended to the off side. He is sure to go for that inswinger (to the lefty) again. Can he get the line right?

Abhishek: "Everything said and done, New Zealand have never really had shock exits in any ICC tournaments over the last 12 years or so. Eng, SL and WI were out in the group stages in 99, SA, WI, Eng and Pak in 2003, Ind and Pak in 2007 and Aus were out in 2009 T20 world cup. Usually, NZ is the sort of team that operates by itself and ends up in the Semis somehow. I wouldn't be surprised one bit, if that happens in this WC too."
