ICC Cricket World Cup - 37th match, Group B

Ireland v Netherlands

Ireland won by 6 wickets (with 14 balls remaining)

Welcome back for the chase folks. All set for a tight finish at Eden Gardens, if Ireland can bat better than they bowled. Seconds away from the start, enough to check us out on Twitter @ESPNcricinfo. Here's Bukhari with the new ball to Porterfield.

Shriram: "This might the only instance but to have 4 run-outs in 3 balls, the first being off a wide :). Not sure this can be bettered for years to come."

0.1

Mudassar Bukhari to Porterfield, no run, sharp away movement from the batsman, it was full around middle, and then zipped away outside the off stump

0.2

Mudassar Bukhari to Porterfield, no run, tries to dismiss this shortish one through midwicket, but it is not short enough, and he mistimes the pull back to the bowler

0.3

Mudassar Bukhari to Porterfield, no run, another takes off and away from a length around off stump, he initially looked to cut but pulled out of the shot in the end

one more slip comes in now

0.4

Mudassar Bukhari to Porterfield, no run, gets forward and tries to ease this one through covers but gets an inside edge on to pad

0.5

Mudassar Bukhari to Porterfield, 1 run, this time he gets it off the middle of the bat wide of mid off to get off the mark

0.6

Mudassar Bukhari to Stirling, SIX, Stirling begins with maximum, straight away, but nowhere close to where he intended to hit it, swivelled for the big pull over midwicket, got a steepling top edge that carried all the way over the slips, and over the ropes too, some mishit that, the ball was not short enough for the pull

End of over 1 (7 runs) Ireland 7/0 (300 runs required from 49 overs, RR: 7.00, RRR: 6.12)
PR Stirling    6* (1b 1x6)      Mudassar Bukhari    1-0-7-0

PR Stirling    6* (1b 1x6)      Mudassar Bukhari    1-0-7-0

2.1

Mudassar Bukhari to Stirling, FOUR, takes Bukhari on, that's the way Stirling knows, comes down the track, takes it as a high full toss, and lifts it over midwicket cleanly

2.2

Mudassar Bukhari to Stirling, 1 leg bye, sees this one pitching short and lines up for the pull, but it cuts back in sharply, and he steals a run as it rolls away on the leg side off the body

2.3

Mudassar Bukhari to Porterfield, no run, the captain is much more orthodox, gets forward nicely to a length ball to push it out to cover

2.4

Mudassar Bukhari to Porterfield, 1 run, dropped Raja at third man puts down a straightforward high chance, Porterfield went pulling a ball that was not short enough and outside off stump, got it off the toe end of the bat, the ball went steepling to Raja at third man, and right through his hands

2.5

Mudassar Bukhari to Stirling, FOUR, another one down to third man, they are leaking runs in that region, Stirling gives it everything to one outside off stump, and the thick outside edge is too fast and fine for squarish third man

2.6

Mudassar Bukhari to Stirling, 4 leg byes, and another one, off the thigh pad apparently, Stirling went pulling one that was short and going down leg side, got enough on it to easily beat short fine leg, Netherlands are leaking runs all around

3.4

Adeel Raja to Porterfield, no run, played back to the bowler off the back foot

4.4

Mudassar Bukhari to Porterfield, no run, and again he offers some width outside off stump, this time he drives straight to cover

4.5

Mudassar Bukhari to Porterfield, FOUR, that is the way to dismiss the marginally short ones on a batting track, this one is on leg stump too, Porterfield is only too happy to rock back and pull it viciously in front of square leg

4.6

Mudassar Bukhari to Porterfield, no run, good reply from the bowler, draws Porterfield forward to one that is on a length, and bounces past his forward push outside off stump, didn't need to play at that really

End of over 5 (8 runs) Ireland 34/0 (273 runs required from 45 overs, RR: 6.80, RRR: 6.06)
WTS Porterfield    15* (24b 3x4)      Mudassar Bukhari    3-0-24-0
PR Stirling    14* (6b 2x4 1x6)      Adeel Raja    2-1-5-0

5.1

Adeel Raja to Stirling, FOUR, waits for an instant, before deciding to pick this full delivery from outside off, with the turn, and wristily sends it high over midwicket

Adeel Raja to Stirling, FOUR, lovely front foot drive, he invites him to drive outside off stump, and he does, getting to the pitch and easing it past cover

5.4

Adeel Raja to Stirling, FOUR, another boundary, same region, but this time off the back foot, just a bit short and he goes back and punches it pleasingly, not much power, outfield does the rest

Ireland needed such a start, if they are to make a match of this tall chase. It prompts a bowling change, Loots it will be

7.4

Loots to Stirling, 1 run, and amid the violence, he now eases in to a glide to third man

9.2

Loots to Stirling, SIX, nothing edgy about this one, nothing streaky about this one, absolutely creamed, it was in his slot, full and on the stumps, and he swung it high in the air over deep midwicket, it took ages before it came down beyond the fence

47.4

Seelaar to KJ O'Brien, SIX, that will do for the Irish, Kevin gets down the track, reaches out to get to this flatter one, and lifts it over long off, that has disappeared, Kevin watches it go all the way, holds the pose like a golfer, Niall loves it, punches his bat, muted reaction from the big fella Kevin, just puts bat under his arm and walks back, Ireland have made a tall chase look mighty confortable, it's the O'Brien brothers to finish it off

It will be a huge, huge shame if Ireland - as spirited and as sparkling as they are - cannot turn up for the next World Cup in 2015. They have fought, they have competed, they have thrilled, they have delighted, they have made complete strangers cry with that improbable win against England. And have now signed off with a comfortable win, their second in six games, they had a good chance in a couple of others. But it's all over for them now. And that will be it for us from this game. I enjoyed bringing this game to you. Keep the feedback coming in. Liam Brickhill will have his bulletin up soon for you to read. On behalf of Sid Talya, this is Abhishek Purohit signing off. Cheers!

Stirling is the Man of the Match. Porterfield collects the award on his behalf, he is having cramps, Robin Jackman says.

William Porterfield: "Was a great innings from Paul, showed a lot of character. We were pretty confident, slightly disappointed with the way we bowled. Look, we are pretty happy with the kind of preparation we have done, disappointed with a couple of close games, who knows we could have qualified, we want to not just to turn up once, but to turn up day in day out. We are very happy with where we are. The public at home and in India have been behind us. To finish it off in Eden Gardens with a win is great."

Peter Borren: "We made a pretty good comeback from four down for 100-odd. Was pretty happy with the score, felt we had a chance. Lot of credit to young Paul Stirling. We had a good chance, playing Bangladesh and India was an amazing experience, we have learnt on these wickets, you can go for plenty here, you need partnerships, and wickets in hand. We need to play more often at the highest level."

Kevin O'Brien: "Had a great time in India. Just love the people here, especially the ones in Kolkata. Good to sign off with a win. We have played some good cricket. It's for the people of India and the world to see how Stirling played, he's the future."

Binod: "Ireland- the bravest team of the tournament!!!"

Bala: "One brother deals in 4s and the other deals in 6s. Wonderful game of the associates."

What a chase from the Irish. Stirling with a rollicking ton upfront, Porterfield chipped in with a fluent half-century, Joyce and Wilson hung in, and the coolness of Niall O'Brien was useful in the end. Kevin finished it off with couple of maximums, this Irish team will go places, if the ICC give them the leeway.
