David John Dalry Nicol, a fine wicketkeeper who played for Natal from 1907 to 1924, died at his Durban home on November 1 at the age of 71. He appeared against both M.C.C. and Australian sides which visited South Africa, and was actually chosen for a Test against J. W. H. T. Douglas's side in 1913-14, but after a poor performance on the eve of the match, he was omitted from the team. He was particularly good in taking fast bowling.
