Day 2 10.15 am The sun is out and we have an on-time start at 10.30am, and it looks as though we will get a full days play today. Remember Ireland won the toss last night and will bat
6.20 pm Play has been abandoned, unsurprising really as the rain continues to fall. A big disappointment to all concerned, particularly the Irish who will now try to force victory over three days. Join me, Chris Busby, at 10.30am for tomorrow's play
5.55 pm Typically it has started raining so we may not get started after all- we will be further delayed in any case. It's only a very light drizzle at the min, but the clouds have really closed in, I think that will be it for today
Toss Details Ireland have won the toss and rather surprisingly have elected to bat
5.35 pm Finally we have some play, starting at 6.00pm with a minimum of 16 overs to be bowled tonight
4.40 pm Well another inspection and this is getting very frustrating. The problem seems to be with a very small wet patch at the side of the wicket and it now seems certain that we won't play today, although the Umpires will look again at 5.30pm.
The ground staff have worked tirelessly but it seems it will be to avail, and with the weather forecast not great for the remainder of the match Ireland may struggle to get anything more than a draw
3.45 pm The inspection has been and gone and all parties are still unhappy with the condition of the pitch, well more specifically Canada are unhappy with conditions and so our wait for play continues- another inspection at 4.30pm
2.30 pm The Umpires have had an inspection and they are not happy with the playing conditions. The pitch which was actually prepared for this game has been deemed too damp so a last-minute effort is being made to switch the wicket.
The new wicket was the one which was used for the Ireland v Italy game last week. The upshot is that it is much harder and the Umpires are going to look again at 3.30pm.
2.00 pm It's really brightened up here and crucially there has been no further rain since lunch. The Umpires are out having a look, hopefully it will be good news
12.55 pm Seems that I have spoken too soon, the rain has started to fall again, and while it's not that heavy there is a very real possibility that there will be no play at all today
12.50 pm It's brightened up in Malahide and the covers have been removed to reveal a very green and soft wicket, when we do get on I suggest it might be pretty low-scoring. I should have some official info after lunch at about 1.40pm
11.40 am Not good news I'm afraid- lunch is going to be taken at 1.00pm with an inspection shortly after, so I remain optimistic that we will get some play in at some stage, the outfield just doesn't seem to be drying though
11.10 am There hasn't been any further rain but still no word on a start time, or even when there will be an official inspection. There is a thick film of water on the outfield and conditions aren't exactly good for drying I wouldn't be surprised if the start is delayed until after lunch. Thankfully the bar is well equipped and the Test match at The Oval is on to entertain all concerned, you get the feeling this could be a long day
10.40 am Good morning from Malahide in county Dublin. Bad news I'm afraid, it has been raining overnight and with the covers all in place the start is delayed- the forecast is better for later though s I'm sure we'll get some cricket soon . The players from both sides are currently huddled within the bar taking in the England v South Africa Test Match which is due to start shortly, so I can't see a start within the next hour. I'll keep you updated...

Welsh to White,
FOUR,
steps down the pitch, driving forward of point for four. This is really good batting from White as Ireland look to build a lead quickly
|
49.2 |
Welsh to White,
2 runs,
similar shot, this time not as well timed and it's pulled up inside the rope
|
49.3 |
Welsh to White,
1 run,
short ball cut through the covers for one run
|
49.4 |
Welsh to Poynter,
OUT,
gone! Poynter's innings comes to an end with a fine edge through to Bhatti as he pressed forward. He stuck in there well but maybe time for the big hitting middle order as Ireland try to bat towards a declaration
