2.20pm The pitch looks much better than at other venues and should produce more runs and offer greater help to the quick bowlers. The groundsman has mown the outfield down from 10mm to 5mm to try to counteract the impact the dew will have. A wetting agent (ADSA 80 for those who care) has also been applied to the outfield which, in theory, will mean that when the dew forms it will slide down the blade of the grass rather than sit on top.
Sadly, the stands are as empty as they have been almost throughout this tournament. But given the prices being asked for tickets, is anyone surprised?
1.50pmGood afternoon and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of today's match.
Pakistan have won the toss and will field, Younis Khan explaining his decision was made because of the "dew factor". Stephen Fleming admitted he too would have bowled for the same reason.
Pakistan have named the same side that beat Sri Lanka last week, while New Zealand have made two changes. Hamish Marshall is unwell, while Jeetan Patel has been omitted because of the conditions. They are replaced by Peter Fulton and James Franklin.
Pakistan Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Farhat, Younis Khan (capt), Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal., Abdul Razzaq, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Iftikhar Anjum, Umar Gul.
New Zealand Stephen Fleming, Lou Vincent, Nathan Astle, Peter Fulton, Scott Styris, Jacob Oram, Brendan McCullum, Daniel Vettori, James Franklin, Kyle Mills, Shane Bond.

Naved-ul-Hasan to Vincent,

wide, outside off and Naved-ul-Hasan slips and lands on his backside. It was more a case of his spikes not biting rather than any moisture on the surface

lovely start, beats Vincent's pensive prod
|
1.2 |
Umar Gul to Vincent,

what a start! A straight one, Vincent aims a loose drive, the ball finds a big gap between bat and pad and send his off stump cartwheeling. A poor shot so early in the day

loose and slightly uppish drive, not in control and it goes behind square to get Fleming off the mark

Shoaib Malik to Fleming,
OUT,
there it is! A flighted delivery on off stump, and Fleming can only shovel a tame return catch back to the bowler! A disappointing end to a fantastic captain's innings, and Pakistan have a chance to get stuck into New Zealand's middle-order

firm defensive stride, smothers the spin
|
37.6 |
Shoaib Malik to Styris,
1 run,
a bit of a shovel round the corner to this delivery, but it's reasonable effective as the batsmen hurtle through for one. Styris keeps the strike

FOUR,
dire fielding to end an innings where there has been too much of that. Short, it is steered down to Iftikhar at third man, but he is not on the boundary and it goes over his head and still bounces inside the rope
|
A crash-bang-wallop end to an innings which seemed to be drifting towards a mediocre total. Oram, Styris and McCullum all hit well in the latter stages, but Pakistan's bowlers, who had been impressive early on, fell apart and their fielding then came off the rails as well. The pitch is full of runs and Pakistan certainly have the firepower to ensure they are very much in with a shout. This could be one of those rarities in this tournament - a good, close game.
We are off for tea and buns, but join us in 45 minutes to see how Pakistan get on.
