ICC Champions Trophy, 3rd Match, Group B: South Africa v New Zealand at Centurion, Sep 24, 2009
ICC Champions Trophy - 3rd match, Group B
South Africa won by 5 wickets (with 53 balls remaining)
24 September 2009 (50-over match)

9.30am We are all set for the start, the South Africans take their fielding positions are a huddle. Jesse Ryder and Brendon McCullum stride out.

This is Siddarth Ravindran providing you the commentary, with Raju and Raghav doing the scoring.

9.20am Not too much of a crowd in yet, it's an extremely early start at Centurion.

Ten minutes still left for the first delivery, which you could spend exploring Cricinfo's microsite, Page 2, which has plenty of light-hearted stuff. Click here.

The umpires walk out, followed by the players, who line up for the national anthems.

Raghav Suryadevara from India: "NZ will have to manage with Elliot & Ryder for the 5th bowling option.. Risky isn't it? I reckon Diamanti should have played today. He would have played as a 5th bowler and he could bat too."

Pitch Report: Kepler Wessels says on TV: "The match will be played on the same pitch that was used a couple of days ago. It is still pretty firm, not much grass cover, there's a bit more moisture around. South Africa would have wanted a bit more bounce, and a bit more pace like at the Wanderers yesterday."

9.10am New Zealand don't have the best of records against South Africa, winning only twice in 18 ODIs in South Africa.

The home side's bowlers were taken apart by Tillakaratne Dilshan two days ago, and they need to turn in a far better performance today. New Zealand's batting didn't cover themselves in glory during the tour of Sri Lanka, but these are different conditions and they have a good warm-up, thrashing India.

Toss: South Africa have chosen to bowl again. Smith: "There is a bit of moisture and we want to make use of it. If we can bowl better today ... We are going with the same team, we made few mistakes the other day; hopefully we can learn from it and do the job."

Vettori: "We would have batted first after seeing the game the other day. We know as a batting unit, we have to put up a good score so that our bowlers can defend. The guys need to bat with no fear and also get the job done. We wanted to play two spinners but when we lost a quality allrounder in Oram it became difficult. "

8.45am It's only the third day of the streamlined Champions Trophy, and already the hosts and one of the favourites, South Africa, are in a bit of bother. New Zealand should prove to be easier opponents than Sri Lanka, but they are bolstered by the return of Shane Bond, who made a smooth return to official cricket during the limited-overs matches in Sri Lanka.

Still 15 minutes to go for the toss, check out George Binoy's preview as you wait.

South Africa will be happy with that performance. They'll fancy chasing down 215, though there is plenty of assistance in the pitch for the spinners. Ross Taylor was the star for New Zealand, though they would have liked him to hang on for a few more overs. He and Elliott negotiated the spinners well and gave New Zealand a decent platform. However, the death bowling by South Africa was top class, cleaning up the tail quickly.

The scorecard may show that Parnell has five wickets but it was van der Merwe who was the best bowler for South Africa. He got the ball to drift in and zip away from the right-hand batsmen, hardly anyone was comfortable against him.
