ICC Champions Trophy - 5th match, Group A

Australia v West Indies

Australia won by 50 runs

9.25am The teams are lined up for the national anthems. Ricky Ponting leads a low-key rendition of 'Advance Australia Fair', none of the West Indies players sing 'Rally around the West Indies'.

Jason from Australia tells you: "I tell you: Ponting and Clarke shouldn't be buying anyone lottery tickets. In England they won a meager 2 tosses...and lost the other 10. Now they've lost another one."

Tim Paine and Shane Watson stride out. Kemar Roach has the ball. The first day game of the Champions Trophy in Johannesburg is all set to start.

9.15am Kepler Wessels says the batsmen need to be circumspect in the first 15 overs after which there'll be plenty of runs on offer. He says a total of around 280 is on the cards, if Australia keep wickets in hand early on.

Only a smattering of a crowd in so far, the sun is out, hardly a cloud in sight.

9.05am Still about 25 minutes to go for the first ball, and not sure how to spend them? There's plenty on Cricinfo to keep you occupied. Check out Brydon Coverdale's preview to the game.

Cricinfo's fun microsite Page 2 is back. The sex dossier has caused India a few problems, as intrepid reporter Anand Ramachandran reveals.

Bizarro Collingwood, a man in shorts, the Joburg Ripple, and Bob Marley tunes - it's all happening in Greg Anderson's Fan Following report from Friday's England-Sri Lanka game.

Toss: Ian Bishop is with the captains for the toss. Ponting calls 'Heads', it's tails, and Reifer says he would like to bowl first. West Indies have made one change, the erratic Tino Best is replaced by Kemar Roach. Reifer says he'd like to keep Australia to about 220.

Ponting said he'd have liked to bowl as well, since the pitch is a little damp and there could be some movement early on. "It's a good toss for them to win, we'll have bat well early on," he says. Callum Ferguson and Peter Siddle have been included.

8.45am: Hello all, thanks for joining us on Cricinfo. This is Siddarth Ravindran bringing you the commentary for what has all the makings of a mismatch. Australia are fresh from crushing England 6-1 in the one-dayers, and this is a West Indies team short on experience and talent.

You can't write West Indies off, though. Their batting might have folded meekly against Pakistan, but their bowlers had nipped out five wickets early to give Pakistan some nervy moments. Gavin Tonge was their standout bowler, taking four wickets in an accurate, probing spell. When asked today which of Australia's top six batsmen he was targetting, he said with a smile that he would like to get them all.

Johnson ends on 73 off 47, 99 runs came off the final eight overs and Australia are up to 275, a total which could prove well beyond West Indies. This isn't an easy pitch to bat on, as the Australian top order found out. Ricky Ponting also played a key role in the beginning with an aggressive knock.

Rohit from India chips in on the Hussey debate: "As one of few senior players left in Australian side and looking at what he has done in the past and how much effort he put into his performances, Hussey certainly deserves some more chances and respect in the side."

Mark from New Zealand: "Imagine the difference that it might have been if Johnson had been given out caught behind when he was not yet in double figures. This stand might have taken the game away from the West Indies. It is one of those times when an umpiring decision really turns a match."

Mohit Mehta from India: "Thank you Mitchell Johnson for putting this out of the Windies reach, now I can sit back and enjoy the India vs Pak match without toggling to find the scores of this one!"

David from Australia replies to Mark: "To Mark from NZ: That umpiring error was unfortunate, but I don't know about turning the game. Australia would have struggled along to about 210, which would still probably be enough to beat this WI team by 50 runs."
