ICC Champions Trophy - 6th match, Group A

India v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 54 runs

Toss: Younis has elected to bat first. "It's back to back game on this. So that's why we have decided to bat first. I am very happy with my team-mates. Misbah misses out this game and I would be playing."

Dhoni: "Of course the injuries have come at the wrong time but you can't do much when it comes to the injuries. Yuvraj is a big asset; he is the one batsman who capitalises in the middle overs and in the batting powerplay. Also his bowling. We are playing with three seamers and Bhaji. (No Amit Mishra)." Kohli is playing.

Hi and welcome to the Pakistan v India game. Forget the hype. Some feel the bite is back, some say there is not much of a hype this time. Let's just concentrate on cricket. Shall we. First up, pitch reports from the experts.

Pitch: Ravi Shastri: "It's the third match on a row on the surface and it's very dry. "

Wasim Akram:" It's a nightmare for fast bowlers but reverse swing will come into play later. Team that wins the toss will definitely bat first. It's a pretty subcontinental pitch. Bat first , get 280-285 and put the pressure on the other side."

Waqar Younis at the studio on Star Cricket: "it's a bit of worry that its the third game on the surface. I would have thought for this big game, they would have gone for a fresh surface."

Geoff Lawson at the studio: "When you don't come to South Africa you don't expect pitches like this. As a fast bowler you have to bowl lots of slower ones and cutters."

Akram: "If I were the captain, I would play Umar Akmal and Imran Nazir. I would take the harsh decision to drop either Misbah or Yousuf, just for one game. It's a difficult decision but some one has to take it at the end of the day. Asif .. it's too early for him to play. If he had to play this game, I would have made him play the last game. Rana Naved is experienced and he can do well here. For me, Pakistan is the favorite for this game. They have the better bowlers. Also, I would tell Afridi to get ready, I might shuffle him and even bat him at no 3 if the situation arises."

Waqar: Abdul Razzaq should have been here. I don't think they are going to play Asif.

Lawson also gives the advantage to Pakistan.

Bizarro Collingwood, a man in shorts, the Joburg Ripple, and Bob Marley tunes - it's all happening in Greg Anderson's Fan Following report from Friday's England-Sri Lanka game.

Derek Pringle on the time Eric Clapton popped into the Essex dressing room.

Rahul Dravid: "It's always nice to play Pakistan. Always big games. The supporters follow it passionately; its great to play them. It's an important and good game to start off with. We need to have a good team performance; yes as you say we are missing some key players but we have eleven players ready and excited to play. The conditions here look almost a subcontinental wicket, if you can call it that. It's the third game here on this surface; should be interesting to see how it plays."

Shoaib Malik: "It's a special and competitive game. It comes from the people of Pakistan and India. Who ever performs well automatically becomes superstar for that country. Younis is playing today which is a good sign for Pakistan team; he is very experienced player. "

Toss: Younis has elected to bat first. "It's back to back game on this. So that's why we have decided to bat first. I am very happy with my team-mates. Misbah misses out this game and I would be playing."

Virat Kohli is in the eleven.

Waqar: "It must have been a difficult decision but fair enough. Misbah hasn't done much recently. Toss won. Advantage Pakistan definitely."

The two teams come out for the national anthems. Imran Nazir walks out with Kamran Akmal.

0.1

Nehra to Imran Nazir, no run, Right. here we go. Good ball first-up. It bounces from short of length on the middle, straightens a touch, worked to the on side.

Two slips in place

0.2

Nehra to Imran Nazir, 1 run, Almost a run out there. Some drama to start the proceedings. Imran hit a cracking square-cut to right of backward point where Kohli dived to make a good half-stop. The ball went to Raina at covers and he had a throw at the non-striker's end but misses. Had he hit, he would have got a run out

0.3

Nehra to Kamran Akmal, no run, again, short in length, around that off stump, Akmal cuts hard this time and again, Kohli makes a diving stop

0.4

Nehra to Kamran Akmal, no run, closer to the off stump, pushed away to Kohli

0.5

Nehra to Kamran Akmal, no run, length delivery comes in a bit, bounces as well, Kamran is cramped up, hops to defend and the ball evades the waft to hit him high on the pad

0.6

Nehra to Kamran Akmal, no run, on the middle stump line, dabbed to square-leg. One run from the tight over. Of course helped by two fine stops from Kohli.

End of over 1 (1 run) Pakistan 1/0 (RR: 1.00)
Kamran Akmal    0* (4b)      A Nehra    1-0-1-0
Imran Nazir    1* (2b)

I am Sriram Veera and I will be your commentator today. Sanjay is on the scoring duty

1.1

Singh to Imran Nazir, FOUR, Crash! The first boundary of the game. It was full in length around the off stump, Imran leans forward to drive it in the air but right between mid-off and the non-striker.

1.2

Singh to Imran Nazir, 1 leg bye, short in length, moves in a bit to hit the pad high and rolls away towards gully for a leg bye

1.3

Singh to Kamran Akmal, FOUR, It was slightly over pitched and Akmal drives it superbly inside-out through extra cover. Finme shot.

1.4

Singh to Kamran Akmal, no run, gets forward to defend a length delivery

1.5

Singh to Kamran Akmal, 2 runs, gets forward to play his favourite square drive. He hits it in the air but right between cover and point fielders.

1.6

1.6

Singh to Kamran Akmal, no run, short in length, moves towards the off stump, Akmal is squared-up, nothing alarming, just opens-up a little to adjust to the movement and pushes the ball towards point

Kamran Akmal    6* (8b 1x4)      RP Singh    1-0-11-0

Nehra to Imran Nazir, no run, on the middle and leg, straightening from short of length, bounces as well, Imran tries to whip it away, misses and is struck on the pad

2.2

Nehra to Imran Nazir, FOUR, Whack! Top shot. It was short in length and tad outside off, Imran stayed adjacent to the line and whacked it on the up and through extra cover. As they say in the caribbean, not a man move.

2.3

Nehra to Imran Nazir, no run, And so, Nehra gets this one straighter, on the middle and off line and Imran respects the line by pushing it back down the pitch

2.4

Nehra to Imran Nazir, no run, shout for lbw but turned down. Missing leg. It was fuller, pitched on the leg stump, shaped in a bit and hit the pad on the leg stump line. To the naked eye, it looked it would have gone down and hawk eye also shows that it would have just brushed the leg stump. Safe decision to make.

2.5

Nehra to Imran Nazir, no run, ah! Imran tries to pull this out of the ground and edges it to his body. It was short in length and on the stumps, he went for the shot but couldn't connect properly

2.6

Nehra to Imran Nazir, 1 run, on the pads, clipped down to fine-leg for a single. Good start from Pakistan. For India, Nehra has looked the better of the two bowlers so far.

Singh to Imran Nazir, no run, length delivery curving in towards the middle stump, Imran was leaning across, stops his movement as he was getting cramped up and nudges the ball to the on side.

3.3

Singh to Imran Nazir, FOUR, Really good shot this. It was short in length, on the off stump, not much room but Imran stood tall on the back foot to punch it sweetly back past the non-striker. Fabulous shot. Easy on the eye.

3.4

Singh to Imran Nazir, 2 runs, on the middle and leg, short in length, whipped to deep square-leg and by the time Nehra moves across from deep backward square-leg, they collect two runs.

3.5

Singh to Imran Nazir, no run, really full in length, some swing, on the off stump line, Imran pushes it out to Raina at covers.. Crowd catch as they say. Raina smiles.

3.6

Singh to Imran Nazir, FOUR, Oh... what a shot. Gem. It was short in length, he moved back, shifted his weight superbly before punching it through the covers. Classy. I am sure many of his fans would have gone, " Mazza aa gaya"! (immense fun).

End of over 4 (10 runs) Pakistan 28/0 (RR: 7.00)
Imran Nazir    20* (16b 4x4)      RP Singh    2-0-21-0
