ICC Champions Trophy, 11th Match, Group A: Australia v Pakistan at Centurion, Sep 30, 2009
ICC Champions Trophy - 11th match, Group A
Australia won by 2 wickets (with 0 balls remaining)
Played at SuperSport Park, Centurion (neutral venue)
30 September 2009 (50-over match)

9.30am Shahid Afridi and Kamran Akmal walk to the middle. Brett Lee warms up, and we're all set to start. Two slips in for Lee.

9.20am Match referee Javagal Srinath and the umpires walk onto the ground. Younis Khan and the Pakistan team follow. Shahid Afridi has the pads on, so it's likely he's going to open the innings. Ricky Ponting and Co. also take their places for the national anthems.

As usual, fans aren't happy with the XI selected. "What happened to Fawad Alam getting some match practice?" Zag asks from Pakistan.

Btw, Cricinfo's fun microsite Page 2 is back, and there's plenty there for you to read. Jarrod Kimber exults in the sheer magnificence of the names of the West Indies side.

9.10am Twenty minutes to go for the game to start. Plenty of cloud cover at Centurion, no rain around though.

"Partly cloudy with late afternoon thunderstorms," is the day's forecast.

Toss Ricky Ponting wins and chooses to bowl. He says with the rain over the past couple of days there will be be plenty of moisture in the pitch which he hopes his bowlers will exploit. Australia are unchanged.

Younis Khan isn't too bothered about losing the toss, saying it will be good to get some practice in conditions that could prove testing early on. The big teams news is that Mohammad Asif is in, his first ODI in nearly 18 months. The impressive Mohammad Aamer gets a rest; the other change is that Imran Nazir has been left out for Misbah-ul-Haq. Shahid Afridi is likely to open the innings.

8.55am We are five minutes from the toss, which you could spend browsing Alex Brown's preview or Osman Samiuddin's thoughts on the game here. The bad news for India fans is that the forecast is for thunderstorms.

8.45am Hello all, it's a big day for Group A, Pakistan are already through to the semi-finals, leaving Australia and India to fight for the remaining berth. To see what each of them need to do to get to the next stage, read S Rajesh's piece.

Today's game will be played on the same pitch that was used for the Australia-India game a couple of days ago. Australia had run up 234 for 4 in 42.3 overs before rain ended that match.

Good effort from Johnson, went for a few in that last over, but two wickets including a landmark of 100 ODI wickets is a rewarding spell

Misbah-ul-Haq hit wicket b Watson 41 (75m 53b 4x4 0x6) SR: 77.35

Australia will walk back satisfied. A below-par score for Pakistan on a track that really isn't doing much. They got off to a good start, with Karman Akmal going good, but the others weren't able to capitalise on the starts. Younis struggled with 18 off 49, and Yousuf and Misbah, despite getting forties, stepped it up really late. The batting Powerplay should have come earlier, and even once it was taken, only 31 came off it. Australia will fancy chasing this down, but Pakistan have a good bowling attack. Will Mohammad Asif be able to pull off something special on his comeback? There's also the spin duo of Ajmal and Afridi, so it should be interesting. Let's wait and see.
