It's very dark now in Belfast and it's starting to rain heavily, the Umpires waste no time in calling the players off and the ground staff are in action. The sky looks pretty bright in the distance- this should be a temporary delay Match State: Delay - Rain Stopped Play

5.25 pm Well it turns my early optimism was unfounded- it is absolutely lashing in Belfast, the covers are on and Stormont usually dries pretty quickly so we should get some more cricket- but we will have a lengthy delay. I'll keep you updated...

5.50 pm Happily the rain has stopped and it is much brighter overhead, I won't risk guessing a start time as the rain has fallen steadily for the past twenty minutes so I would imagine that the ground staff will have quite a lot of work before we get back on. When I hear anything official I'll let you know

6.05 pm There will be an inspection at 6.30pm, I would imagine with a view to starting at around 6.45pm. It looks although it may rain again though which would help Ireland- Duckworth/Lewis will do them no favours in their situation.

6.40 pm Strangely still no news from the middle, there was a rumour that we may have had a 12 over match starting at 7.00pm but the rain, which has returned- albeit briefly looks to have scuppered that possibility. Official news when we get it

7.00 pm A decision has been made and it won't suit Ireland who now face the prospect of elimination- the match will start at 7.15 and will be nine overs per side. Join us in ten minutes for the resumption- it's sure to be tense...

End of over 8 (5 runs) Ireland 41/4
