Ireland are set to benefit from a new ICC support programme, receiving a funding boost of $1.5 million through to 2015.

The new Targeted Assistance and Performance Programme (TAPP) includes five ICC members and is designed to develop more competitive teams at international level.

Ireland are the first cricket board to agree a TAPP deal will use the financial support to launch an elite domestic competition, create an academy and facilitate more fixtures against full member teams.

"We are extremely grateful to the ICC for instituting such a forward-thinking programme of support," Warren Deutrom, chief executive of Cricket Ireland, said. "We're delighted to be the first member to get to this stage. We have no doubt the support will help us to be even more competitive on the world stage."

ICC President Alan Isaac added: "Ireland provided an excellent submission to the ICC Board and I am sure they will do their very best to deliver those plans now that the organisation has the funding in place."

Netherlands, Scotland, West Indies and Zimbabwe will also receive support.

@ All Afghan supporters , Afghanistan is still affiliate status and has many internal issues , So Afghanistan cannot host any Home game . yes but ACC should include them in ASIA cup and regular tours of Bangladesh for ODIs

@mihir_nam: Quit wining! Bangladesh are an improved team now the past is the past and since you're behind on history, it took both India and New Zealand more than 20 years to win their first test matches. Although I'm in full support of Irish Cricket it still cannot be compared to Bangladesh I mean does Ireland even possess the crazy exciting fan base that Bangladesh holds? I don't think so.

@Anim Hossain: Actually unlike Bangladesh, West Indies have problems with their infrastructure which seriously needs addressing. BCB doesn't really need any funding considering they already have world class cricketing facilities especially in Dhaka and Chittagong. Doesn't even have debts problems like some Cricket boards so we're okay Cricketing wise. But I hope for Ireland sake, this will help Irish Cricket to climb up. Clearly deserve to play against full member teams more frequently.

Still Mr Warren Deutrom , Hope you setup good Multiday competition still 2013 and pressure ICC for Test Status by End of 2015 World Cup. You never know with vision of 2020 when things can fade away as Kenya. Ireland should pressure ICC for test status by 2015 and should play teams like Bangladesh,Zimbabwe,West Indies,New Zealand/Pakistan in Home and Away till 2020. If they show good play till 2020 against these teams in Test Cricket . You never know they might be playing Boxing day at Melbourne or Durban . Or even at summer in Lords or Eden Gardens. Newly Included teams in Test Cricket should play with Bottom 4-5 Teams in Test Cricket to be more competitive. Not like Bangladesh who use to play all the teams and use to get bashed in Test Cricket all the time. Bangladesh played India,Sri Lanka,Australia,South Africa in their Initial years. Where they were just lambs for slaughter . Now they are putting up a fight in test but still far away from taking game to a Draw. They still loose.

If there's an Ireland-England test, I'll be there. I don't care what I have to sell to get there.

let's just hope Ireland get a bit of luck with the weather in future! It would be great for international cricket to have Ireland and England go head to head on a level playing field, be one cracking atmosphere at the game!
