Injured India batsman Manoj Tiwary has been replaced in the India squad for the Twenty20s against England by Ambati Rayudu. Tiwary's injury was diagnosed as a side strain. He had picked up the injury, which will keep him out of action for six weeks, during a Ranji Trophy game on Sunday, while batting in Bengal's first innings against Saurashtra.

Rayudu, who has played for Baroda in the Ranji Trophy since the 2010-11 season, has had a prolific run this year, with scores of 64, 85, 10, 54, 1, 131 and 58 in his previous five games. A bit-hitting middle-order batsman, Rayudu did not have too much success on his last Twenty20 assignment: October's Champions League T20, where he played for Mumbai Indians. But in IPL 2012, he was Mumbai Indians second-highest scorer behind Rohit Sharma, with 333 runs from 15 innings at a strike-rate of 132.14. He is yet to debut for India across formats.

For Tiwary, who captains Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, this is a second setback in quick succession - he had suffered a wrist problem earlier in the season. When fit, he had shown some good form, scoring 191 against Gujarat, and also making 93 against England for the Board President's XI last month.

India play two Twenty20s against England, on December 20 and 22, and that is followed up by limited-overs series' against Pakistan running into the first week of January. Later in January, England return for a one-day series.

10 years ago, when you played several magical match winning innings for junior India teams, we all thought here is a great India prospect who would carry the great Indian batting tradition. I know, you had major challenges in your career with the behemoth heading the HCA, putting is useless sons ahead of talented players like you. The result, Hyderabad hardly had any notable players to showcase. However, its a better late than never case for you. All the very best!!

We Hyderabadis here in India are rejoicing this chap's inclusion. First, we had the hot and cold chapter of Mohammad Azharuddin in the 90's, followed by the magical wrist-work and undying spirit of VVS Laxman in 2000's..and..look who's next! finally justice has been done to this exciting heck of a talent, Rayudu. Simplicity, technical class and elegance is a strikingly similar feature of all the three mentioned. After the ugly Shivlal Yadav episode, the ICL non-sense, his switch from Hyderabad cricket, all these years of perseverance on the sidelines and heroics with Mumbai Indians..finally he gets what he deserves. The praise that he's gotten before debut..he's undoubtedly destined for big things.A perfect evidence of how talent never goes unappreciated. And coming in at around a time when the Master's bidding farewell only makes it better. Hopefully Rayudu makes the most of his chances and lives up to the expectation and hype he generated. Can't wait to watch him in Indian colours.

I AGREE with BEN George - but with minor changes - All U-19 ex players like Kohli, Rayudu,Chand,Harmeet and some other excellent players from all other states should get a run of atleast 10 ODIs each to prove their mettle. Rahane ,Rayudu (wk), Kohli , Chand , , Raina, Yuvraj , IrfanPathan + 3 bowlers + Harmeet singh . Kohli to be captain with Manoj Tewary and Rohit Sharma to be reserve batters but should regularly be rotated with someone in team on regular basis.

Selectors should built a team for 2015 Worldcup. All U-19 ex players who have tasted Worldcup success need to be in team - like Kohli, Rayudu, Chand, Harmeet and some other excellent players from all other states should get a run of atleast 10 ODIs each to prove their mettle. This is only way we will be able to filter out battle hardened tough players. My gut feeling tells me 2015 World cup team should be as follows (unless of course some exceptional talent suddenly crops up) - Rahane , Kohli , Chand , Rayudu (wk) , Raina, Yuvraj , IrfanPathan + 3 bowlers + Harmeet singh . Kohli to be captain and Raina and Yuvraj the main seniors (both r good in ODI) . Manoj Tewary to be reserve batter.

I think thats good move from selectors. Raydu is part time wicket keeper that help dhoni i think he got place in final11. We also separate bowling attack for t20 great combination parvindar awana.shami ahemad, balaji, bhuvneshwar kumar, sandeep sharma

Congrats, but it would be a miracle if he's selected in the final 11.

Its a good thing that young rayadu is selected in squad. But the question is that will he get a chance or will be a water man like Ajinkya and M.vijay.

Sachin and sehwag should be ashamed of themselves. It doesn't expected from you to play 20-22 matches and then have a ton after that and also sealed that place for next 20 matches with that single ton.

All the best Rayudu!

@All: Lets wait and see if he makes it to playing 11.

Well guys this was long time coming and it took atleast 6 long years for the selectors to decide on this where as less talented players made it to the national team. Well I am pretty sure it was not just talent which got the selectors nod but to a certain extent his association with MI and corporate influence, but anyway better late than never, it has always been the case in India, better players get a raw deal whereas some mediocre guys get more than a fair deal. Well i would rather get guys like Munaf, Kamran, even shreeshant, dinesh karthic, Kaif, Mukund, Uthappa, Suryakumar yadav, Manish pandey, Unmukt, Aparajitha and other talented guys in the scheme of things. When the rock star Jadeja and Awana can be rewarded for their ranji performance, then there are scores of others who deserve to be in on the same basis like Kaif, Badri, Karthick. I am pretty sure Shivlal Yadav will be furious, that in spite of his trying everyithing to sabotage Rayudu's career god has given him this chance
