England in India T20I Series - 2nd T20I

India v England

England won by 6 wickets (with 0 balls remaining)

Players on the way out then, India firm favourites once again and roared on by another excellent crowd at the Wankhede. Gambhir and Rahane opening the batting and Tim Bresnan with the ball...

1.15pm Jose highlights the Jadeja conundrum..."For most Indian cricket fans Jadeja is a mystery! When & why is he in? When & why is he out? Is he suited for the longer format, with the big daddys in his recent records? Or, good enough for the shorter format, with his agility and bits and pieces skills, all around?"

1pm Here's the toss on a balmy evening in Mumbai booms out Ravi Shastri. Eoin Morgan calls heads and it lands as such England have won the toss and will bowl, as India chose to do in Pune. MS Dhoni cites the due factor again for the reason why he too would have bowled.

The England side is as advised but India have also made a change with Rohit Sharma coming in for Ravindra Jadeja, slightly surprising.

India Gautam Gambhir, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (capt, wkt), R Ashwin, Piyush Chawla, Ashok Dinda, Parvinder Awana

England Alex Hales, Micahel Lumb, Luke Wright, Eoin Morgan (capt), Samit Patel, Jos Buttler (wkt), Joe Root, Tim Bresnan, James Tredwell, Stuart Meaker, Jade Dernbach

12.50pm So Root in for England, in place of Danny Briggs we're hearing. Briggs did get touched up little by Yuvraj in Pune and England did field an extra bowler which today appears surplus to requirements. That's the only change for England, I would imagine India to stick with the same X1.

I hope they've shipped the same pitch over from Pune, that was a cracking deck for T20 and England clearly needed 170+ to be competitive.

12.40pm First piece of team news is that England are fielding a new cap. Vic Marks, the former England spinner turned Test Match Special summariser and Guardian writer is wandering out onto the ground to make the presentation. Either Joe Root or James Harris will be playing today...it's Root!

12.30pm GMT Hello everyone, hope you're into full festive swing and looking forward to an afternoon of mince pies and mulled wine and a spot of T20. Second rubber between India and England coming up from Mumbai with India looking to salvage some pride after the defeat in the Test series by winning again following a five-wicket stroll in the first T20 in Pune on Thursday. England are looking to take one more present home. Here is the full preview of today's game.

Last Powerplay over to be bowled by Luke Wright...

5.1

Wright to Kohli, FOUR, oh lovely, sweet-as-you-like cover drive, timed to perfection on the up through cover

5.2

Wright to Kohli, no run, straighter line and kept out into the leg side from the crease

5.3

Wright to Kohli, (no ball) 2 runs, blocked coming forward off the inner half of the bat, gets it through square leg but a no-ball, big un n'all

5.4

Wright to Kohli, FOUR, now tucked wide of deep square, more superb timing from Kohli

5.6

Wright to Kohli, 1 run, forward and a nudge down to long on

6.5

Meaker to Kohli, OUT, straight and full, Kohli looks to play into the leg side, misses, big appeal for lbw and given out the finger goes up pretty quickly and Kohli might have been gunned down there because that's looks leg side in the replay. He got quite away across his stumps and the ball nipped back in and beat the bat but by doing might have been going down but may have nicked leg stump

Wright again...really...

8.1

Wright to Yuvraj Singh, OUT, that is why Wright's bowling. Sends down a back of a length ball just outside off which Yuvraj pulls down long on's throat What a bonus for England. Could have hit that anywhere but has slapped it straight down the ground and the fielder didn't have to move to take the catch

Gambhir has been very watchful so far, hasn't found his timing, but is suddenly quite vital to the innings...

9.1

Tredwell to Gambhir, 1 run, down the wicket, opens the face to go wide of long off, didn't quite place it as he'd wanted, better intent though

9.2

Tredwell to Sharma, no run, went to play to leg and got a bit of a leading edge, doesn't carry back to the bowler

9.3

Tredwell to Sharma, SIX, big shot down the ground, didn't get all of it but enough to evade a flying Bresnan and it just carries the rope

Hello there. I see England have brought their joke shop bowling today ... Expect the custard pies and water-squirting lapel flowers to be rolled out in the second half of the innings

10.1

Wright to Gambhir, 1 run, length ball, on the pads, flicked to long leg for a single

10.2

Wright to Sharma, no run, fuller and outside the right-handed Rohit's off stump, worked straight to midwicket

10.3

Wright to Sharma, 1 run, slower ball, on the stumps, tries to punch off the back foot and gets an inside edge on to pad, it rolls short on the off side and Wright throws underarm at the stumps in his follow through, safe single there though

10.4

Wright to Gambhir, no run, takes the pace off again, wide of the off, attempts a hoick across the line but digs it to midwicket

10.5

Wright to Gambhir, OUT, and gone, pressure told and top-edged to third man! Gambhir has laboured for more than half the innings to accrue 17, finally his frustration began to show and that was an ugly pull as the ball slid across him, it went very high but was well taken running around the boundary

The batsmen crossed, Suresh Raina in at the non-striker's end

10.6

Not quite the gimme of Wright's previous wicket but he has done the job for England, if somewhat expensively. Consider the handbrake applied

Slip in place for Raina's first ball

11.2

Meaker to Raina, no run, angled across, touch full and wide of the stumps, left alone watchfully

11.3

Meaker to Raina, no run, tighter line, good pace from Meaker and Raina is tempted to fish at this one, opens the face and narrowly avoids steering straight to the keeper

11.4

Meaker to Raina, 1 run, short ball, banged in at Raina's bouncer-averse bonce, but he sees it early and swivel-pulls through square leg

11.5

Meaker to Sharma, 1 run, back of a length, dropped short on the leg side, Raina is running with his gloves in one hand and turns down a second

11.6

Meaker to Raina, 1 run, slow bumper, well directed and Raina lobs this into the air off a top edge, the ball drops safely midway between wicketkeeper and long leg

Sridhar isn't convinced: "Doesn't change anything for Wright, the two wickets he got were on poor deliveries...problems for England #wright=#wrong?" Problems for India, too, now. Wright is replaced by Tredwell switching ends

12.1

Tredwell to Raina, no run, tossed up on leg stump, dabbed short on the on side

12.2

Tredwell to Raina, 1 run, short of a length, goes back and tapped into the covers, they scamper one and Raina goes sliding on his tummy to make his ground

12.3

Tredwell to Sharma, 1 run, tossed up and pushed down the ground for one to long-on

Some new gloves come out for Raina, after he messed up their boxfresh whiteness with his dive a couple of deliveries beforehand

12.4

Tredwell to Raina, 2 runs, looped up around off stump, advances and gives this a bit of humpty inside out over extra-cover, the sweeper in the deep does well to prevent a boundary

12.5

Tredwell to Raina, 1 run, slides down the leg side, flicked around the pad by Raina and they get one despite Meaker's excellent dive on the edge of the circle

12.6

Tredwell to Sharma, 1 run, tossed up outside off, pushed towards long-off for another one

"Hey Alan, I haven't asked in all these years but it kept building up and I can't take it anymore when I see Meaker (rfm) and Wright (rmf). Is there any difference between right fast medium and right medium fast? Just two names for 'trundlers' if you ask me." FM is fast, MF isn't really, Denise ... Wright comes back on to complete his routine allocation

13.1

Wright to Sharma, FOUR, good length, angling in towards leg stump, this is a sumptuous drive over extra-cover from Rohit, stepping away and carving it for four on the up

13.2

Wright to Sharma, no run, full and punched back, Wright manages to snag it in his follow through

13.3

Wright to Sharma, 2 runs, pitched up outside off, leans into another wristy drive through the covers, this skedaddles along the ground but Bresnan hares round from long-off to prevent another boundary

13.4

Wright to Sharma, 1 run, full and around the line of off, worked through mid-on for a single

13.5

Wright to Raina, 2 runs, pitched up wide of the stumps, Raina opens the face and steers a couple into a gap behind point

13.6

Wright to Raina, no run, again full and around off stump, Raina chops down on it, deflects off his boot and Wright sprawls to field in his follow through and prevent any further damage to his figures

He's been, ahem, England's best bowler

End of over 14 (9 runs) India 108/4 (RR: 7.71)

14.1

Tredwell to Sharma, OUT, tossed up, this doesn't spin and Rohit is castled! The delivery drifted in with the arm, bit of action on the ball but it just skidded straight on as Rohit went to slog-sweep across the line, trying to raise the tempo again but his middle stump was lost to the cause

In comes "Old Helicopter Wrists" Dhoni at No. 7

14.2

14.3

Tredwell to Raina, no run, slow, flighted, on middle and leg, this straightens a Raina gets a leading edge that drops a few yards short of the bowler

14.4

Tredwell to Raina, 1 run, flatter, angled towards leg stump from round the wicket, glanced through square leg

14.5

Tredwell to Dhoni, no run, tossed up around off stump, worked with the spin to the man at midwicket

14.6

Tredwell to Dhoni, FOUR, edged but there's no slip in and it runs away for four! Dhoni backed away and threw the plumbing at a cut shot, got a fair chunk of the ball and it flew past Buttler, much to Tredwell's chagrin

That's the end of a decent bit of bowling from James Tredwell. He's helped England get back into the game

15.1

Bresnan to Raina, 1 run, another edge goes begging, this time Raina pushing at a full one in the channel, a thick, low edge went to Buttler's left and, though he did well to get a hand on it, the ball flew away off his fingertips

15.2

Bresnan to Dhoni, FOUR, pitched up and clipped forcefully off the pads, that whoomphed low through square leg for four, smoke trailing off it

15.3

Bresnan to Dhoni, no run, tight line, blocked back down the wicket

15.4

Bresnan to Dhoni, 2 runs, shorter length, veering down the leg side, Dhoni gets a bit of glove on it and it lobs wide of Buttler again, Meaker does well to stop the ball from going for four at the second attempt

15.5

Bresnan to Dhoni, no run, goes back and chops a length ball straight to point

15.6

Bresnan to Dhoni, 2 runs, bit more width this time, Dhoni clatters a cut shot past the same fielder, there's a man out on the rope but they pick up two

Better over for India. Still fairly even at this stage... Here's Chintan: "Dhoni & Raina - arguably India's best pair in limited overs cricket, have done wonders in past, not exactly an eye candy but reliable."

16.3

Meaker to Dhoni, 1 run, on the pads, worked through midwicket

16.5

Meaker to Raina, SIX, bosh, that's right in the slot and smacked back over the rope! Meaker went for a leg-stump yorker, Raina sat in the crease and turned it into a half-volley that he battered flat over deep midwicket for six!

17.2

Dernbach to Dhoni, 2 runs, pitched up on the stumps, nudged into a gap on the leg side and they scamper two

17.3

17.4

Dernbach to Dhoni, no run, good length ball outside off this time, driven with a lot of bottom hand off the back foot, straight to cover

17.5

Dernbach to Dhoni, 2 runs, takes the pace off again, out the back of the hand, that's not going to fox India's captain, who taps it short into the midwicket region and they pick up a second as the fielder has to come in from the boundary

17.6

Dernbach to Dhoni, SIX, overpitched, right in slogging territory outside off stump, Dhoni leans back and leathers a flat drive over long-off for six more... That's Dhoni's 100th T20 six!

Jade Dernbach to bowl the final six balls of the innings... What can Ashwin and Raina get India up to?

19.1

Dernbach to Ashwin, 1 leg bye, slower ball to begin with, Ashwin swings and misses but the ball dribbles away off his pad for a single to bring Raina on strike...

19.2

Dernbach to Raina, 1 run, angled across outside off, Raina swipes cross-batted but gets a bottom edge into the ground

19.3

Dernbach to Ashwin, OUT, scooped straight to deep cover and that's the end of Aswin! It was full and wide, there to hit, but Ashwin sliced it out towards the fielder coming in off the rope

R Ashwin c Lumb b Dernbach 1 (5m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

Chawla in, Raina on strike

19.4

Dernbach to Raina, (no ball) 2 runs, oh, that's gone wrong for Dernbach, he beams one at Raina, who hooks it into the air and is caught at deep midwicket - but it's a no-ball for the full toss and a free hit

19.4

Dernbach to Raina, 1 run, slower ball, on target and Raina mistimes his attempted yahoo towards midwicket, deflecting the ball short for one

19.5

Dernbach to Chawla, 1 bye, genuine quick bouncer, Chawla flails across the line and misses, they scamper one to get Raina back at the scoring end, Buttler missing the stumps by an inch or two

19.6

Dernbach to Raina, 1 run, OUT, full-length ball, carved through the off side but that picks out a fielder, they want a second but the pick up and throw is good, Chawla run out as a formality to conclude the innings

PP Chawla run out 0 (3m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

8.45pm: India have boing-boinged their way to a pretty impressive score - you'd make them favourites, even if the pitch is a decent one. England will need some magic from Morgan and a few from the dew if they're going to overhaul 177. Join Alex in 10 for England's comical collapse... I'm not even going to bother with the strike-through.
